Divorce To Restart: Vengeful Ex-Wife Strikes Back!

Out she goes

Chapter 61 Out she goes

REMINGTON HOSPITAL, NEW YORK. Carla furrowed her brows a bit after getting off the phone call she was on. Her eyes lingered on Nina, who seemed engrossed by her phone. Without warning, she snatched it off her hand. “My phone!” Nina protested. “No, young lady. What did the doctor tell you? You must rest. Why are you so adamant? Work can wait.” “It can’t. There is a lot I should be doing.” She groaned inwardly at a slight discomfort in her back. “Do you think the work wouldn’t remain if your condition becomes critical? At least for the sake of your child. Don’t you want them alive?” Nina bowed her head slightly, feeling embarrassed. “As much as I need my child to stay alive. I need this job for our future. It is the only thing we have to help us through this world of chaos.” “Well, you are in luck. Your boss is someone who would find every means to protect you, and from what I know, you work very hard.” She sneered at the mention of Xander. The sight of him yesterday had made her mad. “I don’t think I should rely on something as fickle as that. My hard work and results are all that I have.” “What did he do so wrong that you insist on staying away from him?” Carla asked in concern. “I was just about to ask the same question,” Xander said in a reserved tone from the door. The older woman thinned her lips and got up. “I think I will excuse you two.” Nina clenched her fist at the sight of him. Wishing she could yell her lungs out and tell him to leave. “I do not want you here, Xander. Don’t make me call the doctor.” He folded his arms with a frown. “I will leave after you answer my question. The last time I checked, we were on good terms before I left for the trip. So, what exactly went wrong?” She raised a brow, shocked at his statement. “Are you trying to say that you have no idea what you did to me?” “What did I do to you? If I did something, shouldn’t I remember?” Nina gripped her phone and searched her message box, stretching it out to him. “What is this? How do you explain this?” Genuine confusion was evident on Xander’s face as he read through the message content. “Are you saying this message was from me?” “Who else did it come from? Is your name not evident on it?” He brought out his phone, too, and showed her his message log. “I didn’t send this. And you know in your heart that I will never do such a thing. It might just be someone’s attempt to come in between us.” She shifted, not comfortable with the turnout of things. “Why would anyone send me this?” “The same people that spread a rumor about us dating and making you appear like the bad egg could do this. Why would I be calling like crazy and even going as far as asking Jace to check on you if I sent you that kind of message? Do I look like a coward to you?” He looked offended. “So, you didn’t send it.” Xander pulled out a chair and ruffled his hair in frustration. “No, I did not. And I already dismissed the people who started the rumor and turned the entire company against you. And I will find this person too who impersonated me to send you a message. The person won’t go scot-free.” Nina waved a dismissive hand. “No, please. I don’t want any more trouble caused in my name. Let’s forget about it. You already said you didn’t do it. So it’s fine.” He stared at her hand intently before reaching out to pat it cautiously. “I am sorry for everything that ensued in the past few weeks. I promise to take full responsibility. So, how are you feeling now?” She nodded slowly. “Better, I will be discharged today.” “You should take a few days off work.” “No, I can’t. I must take care of some things at work until our reports come in. I might have a heart attack if I don’t get the chance to do so, please.” “Then I guess you haven’t gotten the report in your mail.” A proud smile appeared on his face as he showed her the chart. X&J Foods sales had skyrocketed in just a short while, beating its record repeatedly. Tears of joy lingered in Nina’s eyes. She had feared they would fail terribly due to the budget cutting. “Do you believe you deserve some days off now?” He asked. She sniffed, maintaining a straight face. Even though they are topping the chart now, there is still the need to make sure M&M Foods is a total wreck and unable to catch up. She has to get her pound of flesh. “No, I am very fine now. Working makes my day, and I need to be on the premises. I am going back to work. And don’t you think they will start another set of rumors that I am away from work due to the privilege of knowing the CEO?” Xander hid back the smile that was about to crawl up his face. Even though Xander got pissed at the situation, he couldn’t help but be delighted that they thought they might be dating. It’s not such a bad thing. “What they say does not matter. And anyone who does that should be ready to lose their job. Take some days off.” Nina fixed her jaw stubbornly. “I have made up my mind, Xander. I am coming back to work.” A stern look crossed his face. “My sentence must have sounded like a request. As the CEO, I am ordering you to take some days off. And mark my words. If I get word that you entered the premises and are not heading my warning, I will have them toss you out. I mean it. You don’t want to see that side of me.” She gulped at the sudden change in his attitude. But then, Nina has never been the type to give in to anything easily. “I have a right as an employee. I am only taking two days off, and that is it. I own my body and can decide what I want with it.” She hissed, turning her back to him. Xander wanted to say something, but he refrained from it. I’m glad that she at least agreed to rest back home. “Well, that plus the weekend. Four days in total. Can you at least unblock me so I can call you?” She mumbled some incoherent words, not responding. “I will take that as a yes.” He smirked. “Enjoy your stay at home.” Xander cringed when he stepped out of the room at the curses she let out at him. At least she is doing as told.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
