Chapter 971: Who is She?
“Verda, today is your birthday. How could you be absent?” Verda was pulled into the cabin by her friends. “What’s wrong with you today?”
Verda’s friends surrounded her. “You’re usually so lively. Why are you so absent-minded today? Did your family arrange a blind date for you again?”
Verda’s friends knew her well.
Verda raised her glass and evaded, “Let’s drink, let’s drink.”
Her friends teased, “Drinking alone is boring. There are so many handsome guys around.”
One of her friends called over a muscular guy with a good appearance.
She took Verda’s hand and touched the guy’s abs. “Look at this feeling, isn’t it great? It’s a gift from us sisters. You better accept it with a smile.”
Verda withdrew her hand. “Not interested, stop fooling around.”
Her friends made a disappointed sound.
Verda was a carefree person.
That’s why her friends prepared like this.
She played and joked around, but she wouldn’t easily indulge herself.
Her friends exchanged glances, their eyes seemed to say that something was wrong with her.
“Verda, are you in love?”
Verda glanced around at her friends’ faces and immediately smiled and stood up. “No way, let’s drink, let’s drink.”
She wouldn’t let her friends know what she was thinking about men deep inside.
If they found out, they would definitely make fun of her.
The cabin became lively again.
On another yacht, Evan and Sacha were feeding each other fruits affectionately, while Xander chewed on sweet grapes, but it felt as if he was chewing on wax, his face sour.
Evan laughed, “Can’t stand it?”
Xander said, “Can’t stand it, but it’s my own fault. Who made me a single dog? You guys continue with your lovey-dovey stuff, just pretend I don’t exist.”
His words made Sacha burst into laughter.
“Alright, enough,” Evan stood up and walked to the song selection screen, picking a song that Xander was good at. “Come on, sing.”
Xander stood up and came over.
The two of them sang a duet.
It was a rather sentimental song.
Their cabin wasn’t as lively as the neighboring yacht. They couldn’t get into the same high spirits.
They only cooked on the yacht during lunchtime; there were ingredients in the fridge.
Xander took charge of the kitchen.
Sacha was pregnant, so Evan wouldn’t let her cook.
Besides, Xander could handle a dish or two.
Evan came to help, but Xander directly drove him out. “Go and accompany your wife. You’re not needed here.”
“Do you really not need my help?” Evan smiled. “I’ll just sit and wait to eat. You won’t curse me, will you?”
Xander rolled his eyes. “Just go away.”
Evan laughed.
“Okay, okay.”NôvelDrama.Org © content.
He turned and left.
…
They had a decent day on the yacht, except Xander felt a bit miserable watching Evan and Sacha being affectionate.
It was so bitter in his heart.
But he couldn’t show it.
The yacht docked, and Xander said, “Let’s go back quickly. Orion and his newlywed wife invited us for dinner tonight. If we go back now, it’ll be just in time for dinner.”
Evan nodded.
“I’ll go return the keys.”
Xander went inside, while Evan and Sacha waited outside. At this moment, Verda’s yacht also docked, and her friends began to come out one by one.
She glanced at Xander’s yacht and said to her friends, “You all go ahead. I’m going to find a cleaner and tidy up the cabin. We’ve all been playing all day.”
“Okay, okay, we’re leaving.”
Their friends got into their respective cars and left.
Verda went inside, standing behind Xander. “Hey.”
Xander turned around and saw her raising an eyebrow. “You’re not following me, are you?”
How many times had they met on this day?
Is it just a coincidence?
Verda lifted her slender fingers and tucked away her stray hair behind her ear. If it were any other man saying these words, she would have been angry and retorted, “You’re just assuming things.” But when Xander said it, she simply smiled.
She hadn’t followed him, but she did watch as Xander’s yacht docked, and she followed suit. She had willingly gone to the hotel in the morning as well. She couldn’t deny these facts.
“Hey, who is that girl outside, and who is that guy?” Xander finished returning the key and said, “They are my friends.”
Verda responded with an “Oh.”
“What about the girl?” she asked, testing the waters.
Xander glanced outside and then looked at Verda. “What? What do you want to find out?”
Verda chuckled nervously. “Nothing, I’m just curious.”
Xander stared at her suspiciously. “You’re not interested in Evan, are you?”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Verda replied with mild anger. “I just noticed they were standing close together.”
“They’re a married couple, can’t they be close?” Xander said.
Verda’s heart leaped with joy. “They are a married couple?”
She pointed at Evan and Sacha.
Xander nodded.
Verda felt relieved. She had thought there was some connection between that girl and Xander. Now that she knew they weren’t involved romantically, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Xander looked at her as if she were a fool. “What are you laughing at?”
“Nothing, nothing,” she explained.
Xander glanced at her and said, “Do you have something else to do? I’m leaving.”
As he turned to leave, Verda quickly caught up with him. “Hey, I’ve been drinking. Could you give me a ride?”
“I don’t have time,” Xander replied.
“I’m just asking for a lift. Why are you being so stingy?”
Xander turned to look at her, but Evan beat him to it. “Isn’t this Verda? Our car has space; why don’t you ride with us?”
Xander hesitated.
“Alright, get in the car and let’s go,” Evan said, holding Sacha.
Sacha was filled with curiosity at that moment.
But it wasn’t the right time to ask, so she bent down and got into the car. Evan followed suit, rolled down the window, and looked at Verda. “You can sit in the passenger seat; there’s no room in the back.”
Verda smiled generously. “Okay.”
Xander glanced at Evan, then at Verda, and walked over to the driver’s side to get in.
Verda sat in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.
Xander silently started the car and drove away.
During the drive, Xander’s phone rang. It was a call from Orion. Xander picked up the phone, but Verda took it from him and said, “It’s not safe to answer the phone while driving.”
She pressed the answer button and held the phone to his ear. “You focus on driving, I’ll hold it for you.”
Xander remained silent.
In the back seat, Sacha watched in surprise.
Was Xander suddenly having good luck with relationships?
What was going on? What was the relationship between this girl and Xander?
Sacha was extremely curious, so she nudged Evan’s elbow and whispered, “Who is she? What’s her relationship with Xander?”
Evan whispered back in her ear, “I’ll tell you when we get back.”
It wasn’t appropriate to discuss it in front of others.
Xander, feeling helpless, let Verda hold the phone.
He listened to Orion’s voice on the other end. “Let’s have dinner tonight.”
“I know,” he replied.
“At Fuwan Restaurant.”
