Chapter 18
KAEL.
I woke up early today, ready to drive to Bayson Bay to meet up with the buyer of Adessa's ring. I hope he wouldn't make it hard for me, as I am willing to pay a hefty sum of money to get it back. After that, I also planned to drive around the area to check if she was there. Not for anything but to make sure she was safe and okay.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
The entire week, I made time to watch all the videos on my phone and read all the notes that I found inside my wallet. They were small pieces of paper that were tucked in between my cards. They all came from her, and I kept them. Nothing much was written there but just her wishing me a good day or telling me that she was excited and looking forward to our date nights.
But there was no I love you, or I miss you a clear indication that what we had was not born out of love. But I could feel her excitement.
And we do have date nights.
The Adessa I could picture while reading the notes and the Adessa that giggles in every video I took of her was too different from the woman that they paint in my head. Miranda said she was cold and rude. Dexter said she was indifferent and would seldom talk to anyone. But the Adessa in the video couldn't stop talking and giggling. She was so beautiful. How could someone with an angelic face like her be cold and indifferent?
"Are you ready?" I asked Dexter, who had just entered my office.
I stood up from my chair and opened my desk drawer to grab the farewell letter she wrote me, as well as the list she made for some of the territory projects.
The other day, I made calls and finally found someone who could authenticate if the letter and the listing were written by the same person. Adessa had said multiple times in some of the videos that she couldn't write in print letters, and I enjoyed teasing her about it. This letter they found in her office was written in print and block letters.
I didn't want to think that someone was sabotaging me, but with no memory of the last two years, I had no idea who to trust.
Two years was a long time for something to change.
Like how I felt whenever I looked at Desiree.
I could vividly remember our moments together and how excited I would be whenever I had to pick her up so we could spend time together.
I couldn't feel that anymore.
Unless my heart was also damaged by the accident, then it seemed my feelings for her were not as strong as before.
I could tell she felt it.
In just a week, we had fought more than we ever had since we became a couple. I asked her not to move into my room just yet until I could get my memory back or figure out where I was at this stage of my life.
Of course, she cried. She told me it was like losing me again, but this time, there was no Adessa between us, just me deciding I didn't want her.
I was taken aback and felt guilty, so I apologized and hugged her. We almost ended up in bed if I didn't remember that I had made a vow to myself not to be intimate with her until I got out of my confused state.
"I can't go with you," Dexter replied, flashing me an apologetic smile. "The contractors want to meet up with us. It was a sudden request. I assumed you wouldn't want to miss this thing in Bayson Bay, so I decided I'd stay behind and meet then. You can take someone else with you."
"Hmmm... No one can take over and meet them?" I asked him. I was used to having Dexter around me 24/7 whenever I left the territory, so this felt different.
"Adessa took care of this matter with the construction, so unfortunately, no one knows about it except you, me, and her."
"Fine. I'll take Delta Landon."
"Better." He smiled at me, and the way he did it made me raise my brows. He seemed to be excited, but I didn't have time to contemplate more as I heard a voice behind him.
"You're leaving again?" Desiree asked as she moved forward, and I just nodded my head. "Can I come with you?" She added.
"I think the Alpha wants to do this
business alone, Desiree," Dexter answered right away, and I was grateful for th grateful for that. I didn't want her to come along and see that I would be looking around the city for Adessa.
"I don't have anything to do..." She groaned.
"I think you should buy flowers and decorate the whole house. It looks dead..." Dexter told her, and I wanted to chuckle.
Did my Beta just order her to do something?
"I'm not a housemaid!" She glared at him.
"The former house mistress had done that. It made the house look alive." Dexter said, and my eyebrows raised.
He was right. The house looked
dead. The last time it had flowers was the day I woke up, and nothing more came after Adessa left. But my reaction was more for Dexter paying a subtle compliment to Adessa.
"Whatever!" Desiree rolled her eyes and turned around, exiting the room without talking to me.
"It appears that you don't want her to go with me. Am I missing something?"
Dexter scratched his head and smiled sheepishly. "I just thought you might not want her around when your Bayson trip is related to Adessa. It'll just hurt her more." "Sounds fair." I shrugged my shoulders before picking up the receiver and dialing Landon's number. I asked him, and he immediately agreed to go with me. Luckily, he was already on his way here, so we could leave right away.
I grabbed my jacket and headed
toward the door. I saw Dexter grab the car keys from its holder and
follow me. I was glad the hallwain et
was empty, and Desiree was
not
around. I didn't have time to argue with her at the moment.
Landon's car entered the grounds at the exact moment we stepped out of the front door. Dexter handed me my car keys, and I hurried down the steps.
I threw the keys to Landon, who just stepped out of his car but remained by the door. He caught them, but he immediately threw them back to Dexter.
"What the fuck?" Dexter exclaimed. He was just as surprised as I was that it made me stop walking.
"The Alpha and I will take my car," Landon replied.
"I just washed the Alpha's car." Dexter sounded annoyed.
"Well..." Landon smiled and tapped the roof of his car. "I bought a new car last month, and the Alpha has never ridden this one. So... Alpha Kael, ready to ride my baby?"
I chuckled. "As long as it gets us to the destination, I don't mind."
"Nice!" Landon said before giving a salute to Dexter. He immediately went to the other side and opened the door for me before I could reach it.
I slipped inside, and in no time, we were driving out of the vicinity of my house, but my eyes were still on the front door.
"Did he just throw the keys?" Landon asked me, his eyes glancing at the rearview mirror. Dexter seemed to be so upset that he threw something toward the front door.
"I saw that too," I answered.
"Strange. Your Beta is getting older, Alpha. He's throwing tantrums." He snickered, and I just shook my head. "Maybe it's time to look for a new one." He added.
