THE FORGOTTEN LUNA

Chapter 17

KAEL.

I played the video I got from the jewelry shop on my TV and watched it repeatedly, trying to make sense of her actions.

She received a small amount of money. I could tell by the number of bills she had received.

Was she stupid enough to believe the ring had no value?

I also noticed she was trembling when she entered the shop. It was not a clear video, but I could tell by the way she hugged herself and shook her hands. Her demeanor was too different from that of confident Adessa, who had signed our divorce papers. She looked lost in that video. As if she was afraid of something or someone.

"Fuck!" My hands rose to my head, and I gripped my hair tightly. I shouldn't worry about her and just focus on getting the ring back.

Right. She was moving on. I must do the same.

I shut off the TV and threw the remote control on the couch nearby before turning off the bedlamp.

I forced myself to sleep, but sleep seemed to be impossible at the moment because of the many thoughts running through my head. I kept remembering how her face lit up when she entered the room when I woke up and how it fell when I told her not to touch me. I shoved my blanket aside, got out of bed, and walked to the balcony connected to my room.

The moon was shining brightly, indicating a good night to let my wolf out for a run.

Without any more thought, I pulled down my sweatpants, including my boxers, before stepping onto the concrete banisters and leaping into the air.

I landed on the dusty ground below my balcony with a loud thud, and already in my paws. I didn't waste time and dashed off to the concrete road that would lead me to the vast forest nearby.

As soon as my paws hit the forest grounds, my wolf stopped running and let out a loud cry to the moon-relaying to Selene the confusion in my heart.

I kept telling myself Adessa was someone who was not important. I should forget about her. And yet, a part of me didn't want to. In just 24 hours, she awakened something in me even though she wasn't here anymore.

And then there was Desiree. My mind told me I wanted her, but a certain voice in my head told me otherwise.

I didn't want to make a decision I would regret later on. I had to move on.

Alone.

I will start reorganizing everything and just focus on my pack until I figure out what I want to do with my life.

A WEEK LATER (Thursday Night).

ADESSA.

"Adessa!" Corrine's voice startled me, and I immediately lowered the fire on her gas burner before brushing my hands on the apron I had on me.

"Hi! I'm glad you're home." I greeted her even though I hadn't seen her yet.

It didn't take long before she appeared in her small kitchen with plastic bags in her hands. I took them from her and placed them on the sink counter.

I was about to take out the groceries when she spoke. "We need to talk. Leave that for a while."

I swiftly turned around, my forehead creasing. "Is there something wrong?"

"You tell me." She sat down and patted the table. "Sit down."

I swallowed and sat on the chair opposite hers. "What's wrong?"

"Someone called today and asked if your ring is still there."

"What?" My eyes widened. "Someone knows about the ring? Or is it just a regular customer who took fancy at it?"

"That's what I thought too. But then I listened as my employee spoke with him, and I heard the man on the other line ask if the woman who sold it came back. And guess what? He's coming tomorrow, as he wanted to buy that ring from the person who reserved it." "Which is me..."

"Right."

My heart thundered. Did Alpha Draco have me followed, and someone saw me in that shop? "Did the man leave a name?"

"No. But my employee knew him. Of course, everyone who has a shop here knows him, as their family used to own the commercial buildings in this area She paused for a while and just looked at me before she continued. "I didn't believe him at

first, but when my emplaid he claimed that the owner of the ring was his wife, I had to check the CCTV when he visited a few days ago so I could see for myself. And it was indeed him."

I swallowed.

"Tell me, Adessa. Is Alpha Kael of the Ironcrest Pack your husband?"

I nodded. "Ex-husband," I said.

She palmed her forehead and let out a sigh. "Oh Goddess, Adessa. Your husband is looking for you!"

"He's probably looking for the ring, not me."

"So, what do you plan to do?"

"Does he say he wants to buy it back?"

"Yes. He wants to talk to the person who reserved the ring."

"Can you sell it to him instead, at a reasonable price? I would rather that he has that ring in his possession. It will be safer in his hand."

"I still don't understand why you left him. Are you really incompatible? I know he doesn't smile, very distant or cold, and never looked at anyone, but I never heard hideous things about him, unlike other Alphas around here."

I didn't say anything to her aside

from saying we didn't get along. I didn't say anything about Desiree or the fact that he lost his memory. trusted Corrine, but I didn't want to put Kael or his pack in a vulnerable position once someone found out he lost his memory.

"The marriage just didn't work."

"Fine. I won't ask more if you want to keep it to yourself. But feel free to talk whenever you're ready." "Thank you..."

"Hmmm... Dinner smells nice." She sniffed the air before a warm smile curled on her lips. "Corrine..."

She looked at me and raised her brows but didn't say anything.

"Tell him the one who reserved the ring changed his mind. Don't let him know it's a woman. Sell the ring to him."

"How about you?"

"It's not my ring."

"I mean. Are you not going to show yourself to him? He told my employee that he was looking for his wife and wanted to know where she was."

"I don't think that's true."

"Fine. It's your decision to make. I will just tell him what you want me to say, so make up your mind and tell me before I go to work tomorrow." "Thank you..."

"I also got you a job interview in one of the cafeterias around the university. Unfortunately, the cloth shop has no vacancy."

"Thank you. I'm fine with any work." I smiled at her as I stood up to prepare our dinner.

Before I became Kael's Luna, I had been addicted to designing and sewing clothes. I just used whatever textile I could find at a cheap price. Once got married to him, I was able to buy fabrics that I loved but didn't have the time anymore.

So when Corrine asked what work I preferred, I suggested anything that had to do with sewing clothes or selling fabrics.

But I was grateful for any job I could get. The problem was that maybe this place was too near Kael or Alpha Draco's territory. I didn't want to always watch my back whenever I crossed the street or entered a public place.

I shrugged off any more thoughts about that because I still had to decide what to do tomorrow.

Corrine said Kael would come a few hours before the shop closed. I knew I shouldn't go there. But it'd been a week since I last saw him. A part of me wanted to see him.

Hmmm. Maybe a glimpse of my ex-husband wouldn't be that bad, right?

I just hope he doesn't take Desiree along with him. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
