Chapter 30

I plan to talk to her at home. I think it would be better with witnesses. I want everyone to know that I want her. Her parents, everyone. So Thanksgiving it is. After I meet up with my family I am going to head to her house and beg on my knees for her to forgive me. I have fucked up so bad that I don’t know if she ever will, but I will beg everyday until she does.

It’s a stupid plan I know, but that is my plan.

DANNY

Courtney and I sit at the table for Thanksgiving dinner. Our parents look at us critically. Usually they only look at me like that. But today they saw that Courtney and I are close. They don’t like it. I was a little worried that when we returned home that Courtney would turn back into the person she was before. But she has stayed by my side.

Our dad eyes us critically. “So you girls want to tell me what is going on with you at school?”

Courtney sighs. “I suppose you should know before this goes on much further.” She looks at me before she answers. I nod. It’s better with our parents just to get it over and done with. Otherwise in our condition the stress will kill us. “I am pregnant.” I am a little shocked. I expected for her to say that we both were, but she only put herself in front of that bus.

Our dad turned into a plum. “You better be joking little girl. Who is the father? Where is he? I don’t see him here asking for your hand. What the fuck is going on? You were supposed to be our good girl.”

Our mom is crying. Courtney is having none of it. “Well, you are never going to see him here asking for my hand because he is gone. He was an asshole. I was never your good girl. You know it. You put me on some pedestal that I never measured up to. Then you neglected Danny. She didn’t deserve that. She is the only one by my side right now.”

Our father didn’t change his tune. “You are such a slut. What the hell are we going to tell people? We are disowning you. That’s all there is to it. Danielle is our only daughter now.”

I glare at him. “How dare you? She is your daughter. She needs family right now. You know what, if you disown her then you have to disown me too.”

He glares at me. “What the fuck does that mean?”

“I’m pregnant too.” I don’t hesitate in my words. He can’t talk to us like that. This is all his fault to begin with. If he didn’t spoil Courtney then she wouldn’t have turned out the way that she did. Thankfully she has changed. I can’t blame him for my own stupidity.

“Was it the same man?”

He starts sputtering. I am sure he has no idea what is going on.

A plan is formulated in my mind. “Alright dad. You want to think about what everyone else is going to say. I have a deal for you. Courtney and I will disappear. We won’t ever come back and ruin your reputation. You can say we are working as missionaries for all I care. In exchange you are going to continue paying our expenses for college. If you don’t Courtney and I will stand in town square tonight and tell everyone who passes about our condition.”

Our mom stares at me in shock. My dad glares at me. “This is blackmail.”

“Call it what you want. Do you agree?”

I am not backing down. This will help us both so much. I know his reputation matters to him. Finally he nods. “Fine. Now get out of my house.”

I nod back. “We will pick up our things this weekend. No one in this town will ever know that we are pregnant. After this weekend we will never return.”

I take Courtney’s hand and she has no problem walking out with me. Once we are out in her car she hugs me. “I was prepared to have nothing. You are so smart. I know it’s going to be hard, but I am so glad you are by my side.”

“Why didn’t you throw me under the bus too?”

She pulls back and looks at me. “I thought it was time that they saw me for the screw up that I really am. Besides I told you that we are standing together. I am not putting you down again.”

We both have tears trailing down our cheeks. “Let’s get home. We will get whatever we can’t live without this weekend. I am sure they will be out. For now it is just you and me.”

Courtney smiles. “You and me.”
