Chapter 986

Skylar frowned. She wondered what was wrong with Joe.

Seeing Skylar’s resistance, Joe’s eyes darkened. “It’s not like we haven’t bathed together before. Why are you so bothered now?”

She didn’t want to talk to him because of Aiken. Now, she didn’t even want to bathe with him.

When he mentioned bathing together, Skylar almost blurted out, “No way.”

She took a deep breath and said, “It’s already past 2:00 am. If you’re not going to bathe, I’ll go first.”

She regretted asking him. So, she locked the bathroom door as soon as she shut it.

Looking at the locked bathroom door, Joe’s face darkened with anger.

Skylar finished in about ten minutes. When she exited the bathroom, she glanced at Joe and said, “You can go now.”

Then, she lay down on the bed.

Joe entered the bathroom, with a grim expression, without saying a word, and slammed the door behind him.

Skylar raised an eyebrow, sensing his anger, but she didn’t know where it came from. It was late, and she didn’t have the energy to find out, so she just went to sleep.

When Joe came out of the bathroom 15 minutes later, he saw Skylar asleep on the bed. He could hear her steady breathing as he approached the bed.

Anger flared up in him.

As he lay down, he noticed that Skylar was sleeping on the edge of the bed, as if she was deliberately putting distance between them. This made his irritation grow stronger.

Wasn’t it too late to draw the line with him now?

He had long grown accustomed to sleeping while holding Skylar. Now, lying there made him more awake, and the familiar frustration of insomnia returned.

After a while, Joe moved closer to Skylar and wrapped her in his arms.

Skylar, seemingly used to Joe’s embrace, didn’t wake up. In fact, her breathing became even steadier. As he held her, the restlessness in Joe’s heart vanished, and he soon fell asleep.

Skylar woke up at 6:30 am.

She was worried about Simona, and it was also the agreed time for Aiken to pick her up, so it felt like her body had a natural alarm clock.

A cold and clear voice devoid of sleepiness came from beside her ear. “Did you forget we’re supposed to continue shooting the wedding photos today?”

Skylar had indeed forgotten about that. In her mind, she had already assumed there wouldn’t be time to finish the shooting. She also thought Joe might not want to continue. Yet here he was, insisting on continuing the photoshoot.

“We took plenty yesterday. It should be enough. I’m tired and don’t want to take more.

“Something happened to Simona yesterday, and she’s not in a good state. I promised I’d be with her today. Plus, aren’t you busy?”

Joe glared at her. “What exactly are you upset about?”

“So, you’re allowed to leave whenever something comes up, but when it’s my turn, I can’t do that? Mr. Martin, what’s with the double–standard?” Skylar was getting furious as well.

She pushed him away and got out of bed, heading straight to the bathroom to freshen up.
