Steven could easily tell what Skylar was curious about. “I met a friend at the bar,” he explained.

Skylar nodded and said, “Oh, I see.”

But deep down, she had a feeling it wasn’t just a friend. It seemed more like a date with a

woman.

Growing up together, they often understood each other with just a glance.

Steven smiled helplessly. “Yes, it’s a woman. She’s my coworker’s sister.”

Skylar’s eyes lit up as she immediately pressed for more details. “Do you like her?”

Steven’s character wouldn’t lead him to agree to a private date if he didn’t like her.

Steven didn’t hide his feelings. He admitted. “Yeah, she’s interesting.”

Skylar’s smile widened with surprise. “Now I’m really curious about this woman. Anyone who can make you say she’s interesting and light up when you talk about her has to be something special.”

She knew Janine would be thrilled to hear Steven had feelings for someone.

Steven hadn’t dated much in the past. His last relationship was heartfelt, but it ended in pain when Annie approached him with ulterior motives. That experience left a deep scar on him.

“She’s simple, with a bit of a childish side. If we make it official, I’ll introduce you guys.‘ Steven smiled.

Over the years, as the eldest in the family, he had always carried the weight of heavy responsibilities on his shoulders. Step by step, he pushed forward without ever allowing himself to relax.

His previous relationship had nearly drained him emotionally. But he hadn’t expected to meet someone like Mona.

Skylar could tell they were still in the early stages of their feelings. They weren’t officially

dating yet.

“Go for it, Steven. If you like her, you should pursue her.” Skylar encouraged.

Steven chuckled. “I will.”

“I’m starving. Let’s get some breakfast.”

“Sure, let’s go.

After breakfast, Skylar drove Steven to the hospital for blood and urine tests,

The test results came back without any major issues. However, there would be some side effects–headaches over the next few days and drowsiness at night.

Leaving the hospital, Skylar drove Steven back to his apartment.

On the way, Annie called Steven. The moment he heard her voice, his tone turned cold.” Thanks for last night.”

Annie chuckled. “There’s no need for such forinality between us, Steven. We couldn’t work out as a couple, but we can still be friends, right?”

Steven frowned. Glancing at Skylar, he replied, “I have something to do. Goodbye.”

“Wait!” Annie’s voice came through just as he was about to hang up. He paused for a few seconds.

“How about we grab dinner sometime? My treat,” she asked cautiously, as if she was afraid of being rejected.

Her careful tone was a stark contrast to how she used to be. For a brief moment, Steven felt lost in thought.

He noticed Skylar’s concerned glance and shook his head slightly, signaling her not to worry. “Sorry, I’ve been really busy lately. I don’t have much time,” Steven replied calmly.

Steven’s response was firm. “Hate is a strong word. There’s just nothing left to say between us.

There was no point in dragging out something that had already ended. Keeping any connection with her would be unfair to whoever he decided to love next. And it would also be unfair to himself.

Annie didn’t say anything more. After a strained “goodbye“, she hung up.

Even after the call ended, Steven’s furrowed brow didn’t relax.

Skylar was concerned and asked, “Steven, about Annie…”

“I’ve already moved on. I don’t remember much about how she got me out of the bar last night,” Steven replied with a slight smile.

Skylar smiled back and nodded. “Good. When Mom and I return from our trip, I hope you’ll have some good news about a new relationship.”

Steven chuckled. “I’ll try.”
