It seemed that ever since Joe made breakfast twice, he had developed an interest in cooking. For dinner, he prepared a simple pasta dish.

Skylar walked over with her sore legs and looked at the fragrant dish before her. She gave him a thumbs–up and said, “Your cooking skills are improving.”

“It’s just instant pasta. The sauce was already cooked. All I had to do was boil the noodles,” Joe replied.

“Perfect timing. I was just getting hungry.”

Skylar remembered that she had ordered some simple and convenient instant pasta online a few days ago.

The pasta came with self–heating meal kits. They weren’t the healthiest option, but they were handy when there was no time to cook.

“Check this out, Skye. If I’m not mistaken, this woman is Annie, right? How did she end up with your brother?”

As Natalie’s voice message ended, a video followed. Skylar immediately clicked to open it.

The scene was loud and chaotic. Music blared in the background, and a crowd of men and women danced amid the flashing lights and vibrant atmosphere.

Then, the camera focused on a couple stumbling out together.

Their bodies were almost pressed against each other, and they were walking somewhat unsteadily. Within moments, they vanished from view, leaving the bar.

The man’s face was barely visible in the dimly lit bar, but Skylar could easily recognize him from this brief video, thanks to their familiarity.

Just then, Natalie sent a voice message. “Looks like your brother had too much to drink.”

Skylar quickly typed back a few words, “Is that Steven? Is this happening right now?”

“Yeah, so it really is Steven? Is he dating Annie now?”

“They were together before but broke up.”

“Broke up? That doesn’t seem likely. From how they look, it seems like they’re headed to a hotel.”

Seeing the word “hotel“, Skylar frowned and immediately called Steven. The call went

unanswered, so she tried calling twice more.

Joe noticed Skylar’s anxious behavior and asked, ‘Is something wrong?”

“Nath just saw Annie with Steven at a bar, and now they’re leaving together. I don’t feel right about it, so I’m trying to call Steven, but he isn’t answering,” Skylar explained to Joe.

“Annie?”

“Yeah.”

Joe nodded and picked up his phone, dialing a number. “Find out what’s going on with Annie.”

After ending the call, he looked at Skylar, who was visibly anxious. “Let’s go check on your brother’s place first.”

While they were on the road, Skylar kept trying to call. Others might not understand Steven, but she did.

After discovering Annie’s deceit and actions, Steven immediately ended their relationship. He would never want to be with her again. The idea of rekindling old flames might work for some, but it wouldn’t for Steven, given his personality.

He was always calm and thoughtful. If he were to rekindle something with Annie, he would certainly consider the consequences. Weighing it all, he would never get involved with her again.

Yet today, he and Annie were seen together in a bar, looking close. That felt suspicious to her. “Don’t worry,” Joe said, holding her hand.

Skylar furrowed her brow and said, “I’m just afraid Annie might have some ulterior motive and use Steven, putting him in a position to get hurt again.”
