Chapter 2074
Chapter 2074
After waiting in the car for quite some time, Hendrix arrived and got into his seat with a blank face.
He straightened his body and looked forward steadily, placing his hands on his knees as though he had drawn an invisible line between us.
Only women would sulk silently. But when it came to Hendrix, it unexpectedly suited him. He even looked slightly embarrassed.
As I looked at his sharp jawline, I pursed my lips and held back my laughter. Leaning over to take a closer look at his face, the car came to a sudden stop, and I, who had forgotten to buckle my seat belt, was thrown out of my seat from the inertia.
Just then, a pair of huge hands placed themselves on my waist. With a gentle push, I was brought back onto my leather seat.
When I looked up, I saw Hendrix's furrowed eyebrows. His deep black eyes looked concerned.
I seemed to have read his mind, which implied, "This is the wife I've chosen for myself. Even if I get mad at her, I can only brace myself and continue to spoil her."
"Pfft..." I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Hendrix's face darkened. He couldn't stand seeing me like this, but he couldn't do anything about it either. Others only suffered defeat from Hendrix, so he had never been treated this way before. He had probably been rendered speechless.
Even so, the hand on my waist was steady. What remained of his stubbornness was used to turn away to not look at me and to refuse talking to me. As for me, I followed Hendrix's example. I then leaned on his shoulder with nothing to fear, behaving presumptuously throughout the whole journey.
The couple who wanted to adopt Neal were both university professors. They were well educated and had been waiting for us for a very long time. When they saw us arriving home, all they said was that it was fine and didn't show any signs of dissatisfaction at all.
From that, we had a good judge of the kind of people they were. From within me, I had already tacitly approved of them.
Sitting opposite them, it was necessary to ask about their living conditions. Hendrix had, however, already investigated their backgrounds, so we simply chatted casually.
I thought about this and sincerely reminded the wife, Amy Hiller, "Neal is a relatively introverted child. After you've brought him home, I hope the both of you will spend plenty of time and patience on him and give all of you the opportunity to get along."
Amy was a kind-hearted woman, and she had a comfortable smile on her face. Upon hearing this, she
nodded and reassured me, "Don't et
worry, Mrs. Roberts. We can't have children ourselves but we will definitely treat Neal as our own. We believe that, as long as we try our best, our child will know." Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
As she said, Amy affectionately looked at her husband and they both held each other's hands tightly together. Everyone could see the excitement and joy that they radiated.
I nodded with satisfaction. Neal was going to have a good home.
But then, there was a sudden commotion coming from the backyard.
"Help! Miss Aurelia has fallen into the water! Help!"
"Butler, quick! She's drowning!"
When I heard this, it felt as though lightning had struck me. The panic and surge of that electric shock instantly spread throughout my entire body.
In that very second, I disregarded my dignified appearance, stood up and ran towards the back yard.
When we arrived on the scene, the bodyguards had already rescued her. Aurelia was lying on the ground, soaked and unconscious. The bodyguards were giving her CPR.
She didn't have a lot of water in her lungs, so she spat it out after the bodyguard had pressed on her chest twice.
As soon as the servant draped a blanket over her, Hendrix bent down, picked her up, and strode off into the house.
I patted my chest and let out a huge
sigh of relief Just as I had relaxed and was about to catch up to Hendrix, found several bodyguards gathered into a crowd. Once I
approached then, I realized Neal had
almost drowned, just like Aurelia.
