Marrying my high school bully

Bonding together

Lorraine

I nearly flung myself at Victoria, who was standing in front of the cafe’s entrance when we saw each other again. After going on two rounds of lovemaking earlier this morning, Dexter suggested that we visited his sister and I didn’t hesitate in agreeing.

I could imagine how lonely she’d be now that her freedom had been taken from her. “How have you been?” I held her tightly, caressing her hair as she sobbed on my shoulder.

She sniffed and cleaned her eyes. “Lonely,” She replied just as I expected. “But I didn’t expect you guys here. It’s such a wonderful surprise.” She giggled.

Dexter stepped closer to us and pulled his sister in for a hug. I gave them some space, watching their public display of love. Dexter, who looked troubled on his way here, became relaxed.

We all sat down after the exchange of pleasantries and a waiter came to take our order. “How’s the place like? Do they treat you badly? Does any part of your body hurt?” I threw the questions at her, unable to hold back my curiosity and concern.

“Relax with the questions, girl. I’m fine.” She chuckled. “Everyone treats me nicely and it’s not even like they can maltreat me, because my brother warned them sternly before handing me over.” She winked ad Dexter who acted ignorant.

Little wonders he was so calm. I bet he had threatened all the workers to treat his sister like an egg or there’d be war.

“I’m glad to hear that, Vicky. The house is so boring without you.” I whined.

“I’ll be back in less than two months, so don’t worry.” She assured me and we paused when the waiter arrived with our order.

The breakfast I took in the morning had vanished due to the intense sex we had. It didn’t even bother me that my body responded each time Dexter touched me, even when I thought I couldn’t go on and he was always eager to take advantage of my weakness.

“Why don’t you tell her about the man that has made it a point of duty to visit you every day?” Dexter butted in as I flashed Vicky a questioning glance.

Her cheeks turned pink as she held back her smile. “Who is it?”

“Arnold…” She giggled, the pink blush turning into light shade of red. She was blushing very hard and I enjoyed every moment of her cheesy antics.

“Is it Arnold Bumpy or another Arnold?” I wriggled my brows as I sipped my soda.

She palmed her face, acting like a teenager who just fell in love for the first time. “Do you really have to make this hard for me? Of course it’s your Bumpy. He’s always here for dinner and I’m allowed to walk him out of the gate.” She explained. “Honestly, he has made this process quite easy for me and I wonder why he’s doing it.” Her face turned sullen. “I don’t deserve his kindness, Lorry.”

I reached for her hand and held it. “None of us actually deserves what we get. Sometimes, it’s just fate trying to compensate us for the shit that life has thrown at us. And I think you should enjoy every time you spend with him.” I advised her, genuinely excited that she was finally enjoying some peace.

Ever since I knew Arnold, he had never been that bright and bubbly man I thought him to be, though I knew he was capable of playing such a character.

We were quite close and each time he looked at me, there was a kind of longing lurking behind the unsaid words. I couldn’t wait to see him again and tease him about his new found addiction.

“I’m so stupid for cheating on him, you know. I shouldn’t have allowed distance to come in between us. But I guess I know better now and because of him, I’ll do the right thing.” She spoke with a certain kind of determination I admired.

I was glad about her progress and I prayed she stayed clean forever.

Dexter pinched me, giving me a knowing look. I sighed, watching Victoria who gobbled up her lasagna. I was yet to touch my plate because of the tension that simmered in my chest.

“Ummm… Vicky.” She raised up her head and dropped her fork, scrutinising our faces.

“Is there any problem?” She wiped her mouth with a paper towel.

“There isn’t, but we have something to tell you.” I announced.

She swallowed and nodded slowly, the tension thickening around us.

“Something happened last night that we regret badly.” I told her the full story as she listened with rapt attention.

She banged her fist on the table and chewed her lip in anger. “Who would have done that to me? This was supposed to be a secret. Now the whole world knows.”

Dexter cleared his throat and she snapped her lips shut. “I promise you that we are going to fish out whoever did this to the both of you. I don’t know what the intention of the person is but he or she would be sorry they crossed my path.” He promised firmly.

“Thank you, Dexter. You’re the best brother anyone can have. I’m happy that I don’t have to go through this alone.” She said.

“You won’t be alone anymore, Tori. I’m the reason you’re going through this in the first place so I’ll do everything to redeem myself.” He stared at his sister with love and my heart swelled.

“Aww, now I wish that my parents stayed alive to give me more siblings. The both of you are so sweet.” I cooed and they laughed.

Since the tension disappeared, my appetite returned. Victoria took in the news better than I expected, showing her maturity over the issue.

She had changed visibly. She was no longer the spoiled brat I used to know. Her situation had helped to bring out a better version of her which I appreciated.

Dexter got a phone call so he excused himself to take it.

Victoria and I engaged in a silly discussion that got me laughing. She told me about some of the addicts who refused to give up the drugs even though it kept causing more damage to them.

I asked her how possible it was to smuggle drugs into the centre and she cited several examples.

In no time, Dexter joined us but his face wasn’t looking bright. “There’s news.” He announced.

“We’re listening.” Victoria and I chorused.

“My friend just informed me that he checked the footage from last night’s party, and they saw a woman change the disk in the media room.” He said and I frowned, wondering why the woman didn’t disconnect the camera from recording her.

Maybe she wanted to be caught, and she would be caught.

“But how did she get to take a video of us at the hospital? We had no visitors aside from Bumpy who I’m sure isn’t capable of doing such a thing.”

“I’m not saying it’s him, but the bigger problem is that they weren’t able to capture the woman’s face.”Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“Why?” I flared up.

“Because she wore a mask, only the color of her hair was visible and it was brunette.” He said flatly, his eyes turning cold.
