Krista’s face alternated between pale and green as she sat in the armchair.

She hadn’t experienced such cold treatment since returning

to the country, and the humiliation made her even more

resentful of Madelyn.

Her phone abruptly buzzed–it was her mother, Angeline.

Krista answered the call impatiently, “Hello?”

“Krista, did you handle the matter? Your father is still waiting to hear the news!”

“No. Madelyn is also at the company, and she refuses to talk about the Equilwood Village project.”

Krista pushed the blame for not being able to accomplish what she had promised them that noon onto Madelyn.

Hearing that Madelyn was making things difficult for them, Angeline immediately fumed, “Doesn’t she stay out of company matters? She never used to go to the company!”

“She probably came specifically because of us. Mom, I’m sure reclaiming Equilwood Village is just the first step. She’ll definitely take back everything she once gave to us.”

Although Angeline was furious, she remained rational.

“Then I’ll talk to Amelia and find out what happened.”

Angeline and Krista knew that Amelia and Caleb had always. mistreated Madelyn.

Madelyn might have supported Elena like an idiot in the past, but now that she was not foolish anymore, they couldn’t afford to suffer alongside Caleb’s family.

In the car, Madelyn received a call from Amelia, who said, ” We’ll give you your sister’s shares. Come tomorrow to

handle the paperwork.”

Raising a brow, Madelyn glanced at Andrew.

Andrew was focused on driving, and they were nearing the restaurant. Madelyn sneered.

“I’ll have my lawyer handle the paperwork.”

She already anticipated their next moves without sparing a single thought. She knew they’d use all sorts of tactics to get her to soften up. But once a heart had already turned cold and hard, it wouldn’t easily soften again.

Amelia hadn’t expected Madelyn to refuse to see her even after agreeing to give the latter the shares.

Since Amelia had other intentions, she was adamant about

seeing Madelyn in person.

“You won’t even meet me now?”

“There’s no need for us to meet,” Madelyn replied without any hesitation.

On the other end of the line, Amelia was at a loss.

She wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words in the face of Madelyn’s cold and firm tone.

Caleb, who was beside her, kept signaling her with looks.

Feeling awkward, Amelia forced herself to say, “Will your have the lawyer handle the things your grandmother left your as well?”

She paused before adding, “If she knew you were taking over everything this way, she would be heartbroken, wouldn’t she?”

Madelyn furrowed her brows.

They were merely talking about the shares earlier. Madelyn thought Amelia had forgotten about the things Clara left her.

A cold look crossed her face.

“I understand.”

She hung up the phone immediately.

She felt frustrated but found solace in the warmth of Andrew’s palm on her cold hand.
