Chapter 391
Prenatal Check-up
Thinking of this, Benjamin looked at Harper with a hint of amusement in his eyes, a subtle curve playing at the corners of his thin lips. Despite her usual gentle demeanor, she could be pretty fierce! Right at the climax of the movie, Harper's phone suddenly rang, interrupting their viewing.
It was Julie who worked in the hospital.
Harper quickly answered the call, and Benjamin reached for the remote to lower the volume.
Julie said, "Don't forget your prenatal check-up tomorrow. I know you've been busy, so I've been keeping track for you."
"Okay, I got it, thanks."
"No problem. The checkup might be a bit tough tomorrow. If he's available, why don't you both come?"
"Sure."
Julie also advised Harper to skip breakfast in the morning, eat after the check-up, and prepare some snacks or milk to bring along.
Harper agreed to everything and then ended the call.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
She sat a bit away from him so Benjamin didn't catch what she was discussing.
After she put down her phone, he finally spoke up. "Is something wrong?"
Harper paused, then shook her head. "No, nothing."
Benjamin seemed unconvinced, his gaze fixed on her, but Harper met his eyes without flinching. They stared at each other for a few seconds before looking away.
Benjamin didn't dwell on it, but his keen observational skills usually allowed him to notice any anomaly quickly.
Yet, at this moment, he was unsure whether she was hiding something well or if there indeed was nothing amiss.
After the movie ended, Harper went back to her room to take a shower first.
By the time Benjamin entered, Harper was already lying down. They fell asleep one after the other, with him holding her in his arms as usual.
The night passed dreamlessly, and they were awakened by their internal clocks the following day.
Harper got up first to freshen up so she wouldn't hear the notification sound on her phone.
Benjamin, not one to snoop on her phone, called out Harper's name but received no response, prompting him to reach for the phone on the bedside table.
His brow furrowed unconsciously at the reminder displayed on the screen.
He answered the call without speaking, but the caller spoke first. "Are you awake? Can you be here in an hour?d've already scheduled your appointment. You can go straight in for the Down syndrome screening when you arrive. It might be a bit Uncomfortable, so do you want him to accompany you?"
"Is she going for a prenatal check-up today?" Benjamin's deep voice caused Julie on the other end of the phone to fall silent.
After a moment, Julie finally murmured a low acknowledgment.
Benjamin, expressionless, put down the phone. He sat on the bed, showing no intention of getting up his deep eyes flickering with a cold glint. Itwasn't until the bathroom
door opened that he looked
up.
His icy gaze startled Harper slightly, and she looked at him bewildered for a couple of seconds.
Then, in his indifferent tone, he asked, "Where are you going later?"
Harper was sharp.
She naturally understood that his sudden question had a reason behind it.
So, she didn't hide anything and told the truth, "I'm going to the hospital for a prenatal checkup."
"Was that phone call last night about your prenatal checkup?" Benjamin asked coldly. Harper remained silent, which was as good as confirming it.
Benjamin's eyes narrowed slightly, and he scoffed, "Harper, are you even hiding things like a prenatal check-up from me now? The child is ours both. Don't I have the right to be involved?"
"I wasn't trying to hide it from you. I just wanted to ask you when we were on our way to the hospital."
In reality, she hadn't thought much about it at the time. She simply didn't feel like saying anything.
Besides, Benjamin was always busy with numerous matters, and going to the hospital was just a routine checkup. Something Harper felt capable of handling on her own.
