Chapter 387

The man on the other end of the phone was confident, and he said firmly, "Of course he'll believe it. He's desperate to find out who's targeting him and who wants to strike at the Martin family. If everything were out in the open, he wouldn't be afraid at all. But right now, we're in the shadows and he's in the light, so naturally, he needs to prepare thoroughly."All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
Lauren's face was tense, her eyes coolly detached. "You decide on the details. What I want is for him to completely break with Harper and never interact with her again. I can't stand the thought of them loving each other. Just the idea of Benjamin falling for Harper makes me resentful!" "Lauren, calm down."
"How can I calm down? I've waited so long without any apparent results. If Harper doesn't separate from him, then I might have to target the child in her womb. I won't allow her to have his child."
"Enough, Lauren. We'll talk about this later. Right now, we need to have Benjamin follow our plan and investigate. Once our goal is achieved, you can do as you wish."
Lauren fell silent, clearly not in agreement with the man's suggestions.
The man forbade her from hurting Harper, but she had eyes only for Benjamin. To her, nobody else mattered.
Sometimes, she even thought about pretending nothing had happened. As long as Benjamin married her and stayed with her, she could stand by his side. Lauren hoped the fate would allow it.
...
After leaving the hospital, Benjamin got into his car and immediately tried to call Harper back.
But no one answered.
The call went through.
It was just like when Harper had tried to reach him earlier.
It rang, but no one picked up.
His expression was calm, his handsome face unreadable, his deep eyes carrying a hint of icy detachment. He then called Harper's driver. "Where is she?" "Mrs. Martin is at the office."
"I see."
Benjamin headed straight for Harper's office.
After parking the car, he took out his phone to check the trending news. The posts about him and Lauren had been removed. Searching for them yielded nothing. But Harper would definitely know.
He pushed open the car door, stepped out, and walked into the building where Harper's office was located, taking the elevator up.
Harper hadn't received a call from Benjamin. It wasn't that she was ignoring him. She simply hadn't heard her phone.
She was just finishing a chat with
Annie when Frank called her to
discuss a project. The Mitchell Group's project had approached them again, this time Kimberly personally reaching out to Frank on behalf of the company. Given Kimberly's relationship with Harper, Frank didn't agree immediately but decided to consult with Harper first.
Frank took his stance. He said, "Harper, if you think it's inappropriate or inconvenient, then I'll just decline on our behalf."
Harper pressed her lips together, not
outright refusing but asking, "Do you think this project is feasible? I mean, first, don't consider my personal reasons. Just think about whether this project could benefit our company."
"I think it could."
"Then, arrange for someone to handle the negotiations. I'm currently too busy with the competition and this other project. I won't be involved in this partnership for now." "Okay," Frank agreed, nodding, but he couldn't help asking with some concern, "Harper, you're not upset, are you?"
"Of course not. Business is business. As for my matters, I'll handle them."
The situation with the Mitchell family and Kimberly was somewhat tense at her end.
The partnership with the Mitchell Group wasn't a major project, but it was the only notable one they could currently offer and the only one that hadn't been affected by the recent troubles. Initially, because Harper hadn't given the green light, the project hadn't started and thus had remained unaffected and unbroken.
