I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 385

Overthinking

Eleanor sighed, her voice tinged with guilt, "Harper, it's all my fault. If I hadn't caused you trouble, none of this would have happened. It must be because of me. I'm old now. I don't need any surgery. I've lived long enough." "Grandma, it really has nothing to do with you. Please, don't worry yourself."

But Eleanor couldn't stop blaming herself, convinced it was all connected to her. Overcome with emotion, her health faltered, forcing her to call for a nurse. After taking her medication, thankfully, no serious incident occurred. Harper felt a lingering fear, an indescribable feeling weighing on her heart.

She whispered soothingly to Eleanor, "Please don't talk like that anymore. No matter what, I'll always be there for you. If you don't want to cause me trouble, then please cooperate with the treatment. I'm pregnant now, and it would hurt me if you didn't listen." Harper spoke softly for a while, unsure if Eleanor was taking her words to heart, but eventually, Eleanor stopped protesting.

Harper stayed with Eleanor in the hospital until she fell asleep, then left.

Returning to her car with a stern, expressionless face, she instructed the driver to take her straight to the office.

Just a moment ago, Benjamin had told her he loved the mother of his child, yet now, rumors about him and Lauren were swirling.

Harper found it rather amusing.

She was also relieved she hadn't responded to him.

If she had given in to a moment of confusion and answered him, her self-esteem would have been trampled into the dust.

Harper arrived at her office in the company.

In the office, Annie was working on drafts with Sophia. Seeing Harper's grim expression, Annie asked Sophia and the others to step out and address some issues she had pointed out, then asked, "What's wrong?"

Annie had been too busy with the drafts to check the latest online gossip.

Harper unlocked her phone, pulled up the trending news, and handed it to Annie.

After a glance, a chill flashed in Annie's eyes. "What is Benjamin thinking?"

"Do you think he loves Lauren?" Harper asked, her tone indifferent.

Annie paused, confused. "Why ask that? Just because he loves Lauren, should you just let them be?"This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

"Why not let them be? I can't destroy a relationship," Harper responded calmly.

"Harper, are you crazy? Pregnant brain?" Annie retorted, clearly dissatisfied.

"Annie, what's not meant for me will never be mine."

"Are you truly content with that?"

With a mysterious smile playing on her lips and a distant look in her eyes, Harper seemed lost in thought.

Harper asked herself if she was content with that.

She looked at Annie and scoffed coldly.

At the hospital, Lauren had completed her examination. It was nothing serious. She just had a sprained ankle that would heal with a few days of rest.

Benjamin had the nurse arrange a private room for her. With Rue and Emily handling the admission and gathering toiletries, the room was left to just the two of them.

He looked at Lauren sitting on the bed and asked indifferently, "Did you remember something?"

Lauren hesitated, a sly look flickering in her eyes before she could hide it.

With pressed lips, she whispered, "I remember what the man who tried to hurt us in the car looks like. He has a scar on his face, quite prominent, on the left side, and he looks to be in his forties..."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure. I've been working closely with a psychologist. The doctor said my temporary amnesia was due to fear and terror. Maybe my fixation on this matter moved the heavens to let me remember," Lauren explained.

Benjamin nodded slightly, his expression unreadable.

His eyes narrowed, his handsome features cast in light shadow as he glanced deeply at Lauren. He then pulled out his phone, which showed missed calls from Harper. He

frowned slightly but decided to call Curtis first.

Once connected, Benjamin instructed Curtis to investigate this man. With a clear description and distinguishing features, the search would be more focused.
