I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 383

Burden

Benjamin looked at Harper with a solemn expression, his eyes seemingly telling her that he must go.

Harper's lips tightened into a small smile. "Then you should go," she said.

Benjamin hummed softly, then rose swiftly. He walked to the coat rack, grabbed his jacket, and headed straight out the door. The sound of the office door closing was neither loud nor soft, but it felt as though Harper's heart was being shut as well. Benjamin had said he didn't love Lauren, yet he rushed to her at a single word from her.

It was love.

Harper smiled wryly, sitting quietly in the office for a long while before she finally stood and left.

Seeing her emerge, Curtis quickly approached and asked, "Mrs. Martin, shall I drive you home?"

Curtis had been instructed explicitly by Benjamin before he left.

Harper shook her head and denied, "No need, my driver is waiting downstairs."

Curtis could only nod, then escorted her to the elevator and pressed the button for her, only returning to his post after she stepped in.

At that moment, Dorcas approached, holding a project proposal in her hand, and asked Curtis, "Are they still in there?"

"They've left. Mr. Martin had to step out, and Mrs. Martin just left."

"Did they leave separately?"

"Yes," Curtis replied.

Dorcas furrowed her brows slightly, then handed the proposal to Curtis and said, "Then you give this to him."

Curtis nodded and agreed.

Dorcas then asked, "Did Benjamin go out for something specific?"

Curtis simply replied that he didn't know, and with that, Dorcas left.

Lauren had been busy preparing for a concert these past few days, and today, she was at a suburban riding club for a commercial shoot.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.

Ever since she signed up with the Martin Group, she hasn't had to worry about her exposure, as Rue has been handling everything for her.

The only downside was she rarely

saw Benjamin. Even when she had contracts to sign at the Martin Group, their paths never crossed. It was like they were deliberately kept apart.

When Benjamin drove up, Lauren was in the middle of a shoot. Rue spotted Benjamin and immediately approached to greet him. "Mr. Martin what brings you here?. Should I call Lauren over

"No need," Benjamin replied, watching Lauren from a distance as she filmed. He asked coolly, "Has she been very busy lately?"

"Not really. This shoot was decided a week ago, and she has no other commitments until after the concert."

"I see," Benjamin responded softly, his expression remained impassive.

After about ten minutes, Lauren finished her shoot.

She rode over on her horse, her cheeks bright with a joyful smile when she saw Benjamin. She waved and called out unabashedly, "Benjamin..."

Her affectionate address drew curious glances from those around, but out of respect for Benjamin's authority, they only muttered to themselves. Just steps from the exit, overly excited, Lauren inadvertently kicked her horse, causing it to rear up suddenly. Lauren was thrown off the horse. And everyone heard Lauren cried.

She fell to the ground, and luckily, the horse trainer was holding the reins. Otherwise, the horse's front legs would have trampled right on Lauren. The scene was genuinely heart-stopping, and everyone was terrified.

Lauren hurt her foot in the fall and struggled to stand even with Rue's help.

She gritted her teeth and tried several times, but the pain in her foot was intense.

Looking distressed, she turned to Benjamin, her eyes brimming with tears from the shock and pain of the fall, and whispered, "Benjamin, can you hold me?"

Benjamin just furrowed his brow, and his face was expressionless.
