At first, Harper didn't grasp the significance of his words, only falling into silence once the delayed realization hit her.
He reached out, caressing her cheek with a low voice. "Harper, talk to me. What are you thinking?"
Harper's expression was somber, and her voice was flat. "I don't know."
"Don't know what?"
"How to answer you."
Benjamin gave a soft smile, his fingertips gently stroking her delicate cheek, and murmured, "Not sure how to respond? Is it that difficult? Don't you even know how you feel about what I've just said?" "I can't describe how I feel right now."
He chuckled, his gaze intense and somewhat coercive as he said, "Harper, do you genuinely not know how to describe your feelings, or is it that you don't believe what I'm saying is true?"
Harper flinched subconsciously.
His words had struck a chord.
He was right. She didn't believe his words because, for her, they were inconceivable.
He couldn't have changed so suddenly when she hadn't been able to sway him all year.
Harper guessed it was because of the child, and had his feelings towards her changed as well.
The changes in Harper's facial expressions made Benjamin's smile deepened. He said lightly, "It doesn't matter if you don't believe me now, you'll come to believe in time. But before you do, I need to know what you're really thinking." Harper's face shifted subtly as she looked at him, genuinely unsure of how to respond.
In their marriage, his affection had always been something she longed for. If it had been before any talk of divorce, she would have been happy, but now, those desires were just memories buried deep.
She couldn't express her thoughts.
The atmosphere fell silent briefly. Harper remained quiet for a long time without a response.
Harper clearly saw Benjamin's face turned sullen, and she was overwhelmed.
Just then, Benjamin's phone rang.
He pulled it out and glanced at the
e screen. Harper could clearly see the name displayed, their eyes meeting. "You should take the call," she said calmly.
She then shifted her gaze to the window. Benjamin looked intently at her for a moment before pressing the answer button.
"Is there something you need?" His voice was flat, devoid of warmth or emotion.
Lauren asked softly, "Benjamin, can you come over here now?"
"Just say what you need to say," Benjamin replied.
His tone still indifferent.
Lauren's voice carried a hint of fragility, and she said, "Benjamin, I've remembered a lot of things. I can recall what the man who hit our car looks like now, so can you come over here?"
Benjamin's eyes narrowed sharply,
his expression growing cold and et
stern. He didn't respond but hung up and turned to Harper.
He asked, "I need to step out for a bit. Do you want to wait for me at the office or go home?"

It was just one phone call from Lauren, and he was ready to leave immediately.
Harper asked, "Are you going to see Lauren?"
"Yes, there are some things I need to clarify."
"Is it necessary?" she asked softly.
