The kiss lasted for a long time, from the initial light touch to the final focus. Until Harper was out of breath, he finally stopped.
Benjamin was wheezing, and his voice was hoarse to the extreme. "Ever since Annie came, you've been especially cold to me. You told her she could go back to Dattlech at night, I don't want to see her anymore." Harper sighed, "Are you just using her and then kicking her out?"
"She keeps clinging to you," Benjamin said in a low, slightly petulant voice.
Harper said helplessly, "We're good friends."
"Can good friends do everything together all the time?"
"What about you? You've been working with Dorcas all the time recently, and I didn't say anything, did I?"
Benjamin smiled and said, "Feeling jealous?"
"No."
He gazed at her face, pinching her chin, and said with a smile, "Really no jealousy or just not willing to admit it?"
"Do you really want me to be jealous?" Harper met his gaze, curiously asking.
"Can I make you jealous if I want to?"
"Benjamin, a man making a woman jealous is not a sign of his charm, don't you think a truly outstanding man wouldn't make a woman compete for his attention?"
Benjamin lightly pinched her chin, smiling, "So if I want to make you jealous, I'm not an outstanding man?"
"I didn't say that," Harper replied.
He smiled brightly, "So if you don't want to be jealous, just keep me under control, okay?"
Harper remained silent, not understanding what he meant.
Until the end, she never answered that question Harper had never thought about controlling Benjamin because their relationship had always been in his favor. Even though she was the one to insist on divorce later, Harper had never
thought about how to retaliate
against him.
Due to the need to complete the project design quickly, Harper had been going to the construction site almost every day these past two days. She not only had to draw the plans but also had to check each batch of materials with Charlie and test them without any slackness.
After completing these tasks, Harper had to take the drawings to the Martin Group to show Benjamin.
But for three consecutive days, every
time she went to the Martin Group, she would see Dorcas there. Sometimes Dorcas would be sitting on the chair behind the desk, sometimes sitting on the sofa with Benjamin. They had endless topics to discuss. Even though they were all about work, their conversations were harmonious.
One afternoon at around five o'clock, Harper arrived at the Martin Group again. This time, Harper came to ask Benjamin to go with her to the
hospital to visit Eleanor. Eleanor had specifically mentioned that she wanted Benjamin to come and chat with her. In fact, Eleanor was Worried that Harper and Benjamin were having a conflict, as Benjamin hadn't visited her for two days.
When Harper arrived at the office door, Curtis immediately stood up to greet her. "Mrs. Martin, you're here."
"Is Benjamin still busy?"
"Yes, Mr. Martin and Ms. Madison are discussing the project," Curtis replied.
"I see. Then I'll wait here for a bit!" Harper said.
Curtis nodded, indicating that Harper could go to the lounge area to sit and wait, but she declined.
She stood there, waiting for nearly half an hour before the office door was opened. Benjamin and Dorcas came out together, with Dorcas smiling, "So we'll have a great night out, that's your promise to me..." "Harper." Benjamin saw her and called gently, then walked over and whispered, "Have you been waiting here for a long time? Why didn't you come in?"
Then he looked at Curtis, "Why didn't you just bring her in?"
His tone was cold.
Harper explained, "I wanted to wait here myself, don't blame Mr. Yost."
Benjamin fell silent at her words.
At this moment, Dorcas spoke up. "Harper is here too. I just made plans to have dinner with Benjamin, would you like to join us?"
