Bonnie stood there frozen for a moment before looking at Yanis. "I'm pregnant?" she asked.
Yanis nodded and then turned to the nurse. "She had anesthesia just now. Will it affect the baby?"
Yanis inquired.
The nurse responded, "There will definitely be some impact since it was local anesthesia. You can ask
the head doctor in the obstetrics department for more information and do some further tests."
Yanis nodded, saying, "Okay, thank you."
Initially, Bonnie didn't want the doctor to administer anesthesia because the wounds were superficial
and could be cleaned without it. However, when they cut open the clothing on her shoulder, they
discovered several deep wounds that required anesthesia. Otherwise, Bonnie wouldn't be able to bear
the pain.
They decided to do a blood test due to the severity of Bonnie's injuries, and that's when they
unexpectedly discovered the pregnancy.
Freddy took a while to regain his composure and looked at Yanis. "She's... really pregnant?"
Yanis nodded, handing the document to Freddy. "Let's ask the doctor later. There might still be a
chance..."
"No need. I don't want it," Bonnie interrupted Yanis before she could finish her sentence.
Freddy furrowed his brow slightly upon hearing Bonnie's words. "Don't be foolish!"
Bonnie remained calm and repeated, "I'm not being foolish. I'm serious."
Freddy looked at Bonnie. "Bonnie, the child is innocent. You have no right to take its life away or deny it
the right to exist in this world."
"Dad, should I let it be born and become a child without a father?" Bonnie looked at Freddy. "Besides, I
had anesthesia, so I definitely can't keep it."
Freddy had wanted to say something, but Bonnie's words left him momentarily speechless.
"Bonnie, let's ask the doctor and make a decision afterward, alright?" Yanis looked at Bonnie and
spoke softly.
Bonnie didn't say anything but turned her face to the other side.
Yanis watched Bonnie's figure and then signaled Zane with her eyes, asking him to take Freddy out
first.
Zane nodded at Yanis and took a step forward. "Mr. Cooke, why don't we go and buy some food? Yanis
and Miss Cooke haven't eaten yet, and they're probably hungry by now."
Freddy hesitated for a moment but then stood up. "I'll go buy some food for you. Don't act impulsively.
Think it through before making a decision."
Bonnie didn't say anything or respond.
Yanis looked at Freddy and said, "Uncle Cooke, you and Zane go buy some food. I'll try to persuade
Bonnie."
Freddy nodded, glanced at Bonnie's back, and then left the hospital room with Zane.
Once Zane and Freddy had left, Yanis sat down by the bed. "Bonnie, are you really not going to keep
the baby?"
Bonnie turned to look at Yanis, intending to speak, but Yanis beat her to it. "After consulting the doctor
and if there are no complications, are you really going to give up on him?"
Meeting Yanis' gaze, Bonnie opened her mouth but couldn't find the words to speak.
Yanis reached out and held Bonnie's hand, whispering, "Try feeling it with your hand. Are you really
sure you don't want to keep him?"
Bonnie's hand was moved down by Yanis a little, and although it took some effort to place it on her
abdomen, Bonnie couldn't describe how it felt when her hand rested there.
Actually, Bonnie didn't oppose the idea of having a child before.
She had been looking forward to it at one point, but then there had been no progress, so she didn't
think much about it, assuming that it would happen naturally when the time came.
But Bonnie didn't expect it to happen now, of all times.
"Bonnie, what's going on between you and Myles? Can't I even say anything?" Yanis asked.
Bonnie remained silent for a few seconds after hearing Yanis' words, then she spoke up, "I just
suddenly feel like maybe Myles and I have just gotten used to each other's presence, used to certain
things, and maybe it's not because we actually like or love each other."
"Yanis, you know that I can be quite stubborn when it comes to relationships. Once I have an idea of
what things should be like, that's how they should be," Bonnie said.
"I thought marrying him was the right thing to do because we've been together for so long, we like each
other, and we want to be with each other for the rest of our lives. So getting married is our assurance.
But things don't seem to be that simple. He's different from my social circle, different from the future I
envision, and thinks about things in a different way. It's only now that I realize I never really understood
him," Bonnie explained.
As Yanis listened to Bonnie's words, she wanted to say something, but she didn't know where to begin.
Not only did Bonnie feel this way, Yanis felt the same.
She also thought that Myles and Bonnie should be together, get married, have children, and be
together for the rest of their lives.
But now, after hearing Bonnie's words, Yanis suddenly felt that maybe... perhaps they were just used to
it.
Used to seeing Myles always around Bonnie.
Used to seeing how good Myles was to Bonnie.
Used to Myles' unpredictable appearances in front of Bonnie, expressing his affection.
And then everyone thought that Myles and Bonnie should be together.
They should get married. That was the ending they were supposed to have.
"Yanis, I suddenly feel a bit tired. I don't want to live life out of habit anymore. I want to change slowly
and break these habits, only then will I feel more at ease," Bonnie said.
"Bonnie, do you really think your feelings for Myles are just a habit?" Yanis asked.
Bonnie shook her head, "I don't even know anymore. I don't know if I like him or if I'm just used to him.
Maybe he doesn't know either. We both don't know, so... let's just leave it at that, not bother each other,
and take care of ourselves."
Yanis opened her mouth, but couldn't find the right words to comfort Bonnie.
Both of them remained silent for a while, and then Yanis suddenly spoke up, "What about the baby?
Are you going to tell him?"
"No need. This child has no connection to us. Otherwise, I wouldn't have ended up in this situation
today, coincidentally being put under anesthesia," Bonnie replied softly.
Yanis pursed her lips and said, "Bonnie, let's ask the doctor later. If we can keep it, think about it
again?"
Bonnie didn't respond to Yanis' words. She simply said in a soft voice, "Yanis, please let me be alone
for a moment. I'm feeling very confused right now."
Yanis nodded, "Okay, I'll be outside the door. Call me if you need anything."
"No need to go out. Just stay here with me. Don't ask me anything," Bonnie requested.
Yanis acknowledged with a sound and didn't say anything further.
When Zane and Freddy returned, Bonnie had already fallen asleep on her stomach, tear stains still
visible on her cheeks. Yanis reached out and wiped them away before turning to Freddy, "Uncle Cooke,
you can go back now. Zane and I will stay here. Linda and the others will come later. We'll take care of
Bonnie."
