Her Precious Baby

Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Angeline was already frustrated from spending so much time on the water pipe, so Evander’s nagging made her more upset.

In a fit of anger, Angeline stood up and waved the wrench in her hand at Evander. “Well, all that talk isn’t going to fix the problem. Why don’t you try your hand at it? But I guess a rich and pampered person like you wouldn’t know how to repair it, right?”

Angeline let loose her frustrations and taunted Evander.

All she wanted was to embarrass him for a bit, but little did she expect what he was going to do.

At that moment, Evander took off his suit jacket and placed it on a chair nearby. He strode toward Angeline and took the wrench from her hand. “Step aside.” He gestured to Angeline.

Seeing Evander squatting in front of the water tank, Angeline was shocked. “Are you sure about this? Why don’t I call a plumber? I’m sure they’ll be here quickly, and it won’t affect dinner…”

“Have you ever met a female artiste as long-winded as you? Just watch me,” Evander replied in a disdainful tone. While his slender fingers were deftly working on the pipe, he instructed in a deep voice, “Pass me the pliers.” Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

From the looks of it, it seemed like Evander knew a thing or two about repairing a leaking pipe.

Angeline did not dare to say anything more. She hurriedly took the pliers from the toolbox and handed them over to Evander.

Evander’s hands seemed to work like magic; soon, the pipe stopped leaking.

“Whoa, it stopped leaking. Mr. Golding, you’re amazing,” Angeline complimented with a huge smile. She hoped he would forget about her tactlessness earlier.

Evander was secretly pleased to hear her compliment. He did not say anything more and turned on the tap to test the water flow.

As Evander watched the water flow smoothly from the tap, a sudden thought crossed his mind. He asked Angeline coldly, “You have a boyfriend?”

“Huh?” Angeline was caught by surprise by his question. “Mr. Golding, why are you suddenly asking me this?”

“I noticed an access pass belonging to a man on the top of the cabinet when I came in just now. The name was Jonathan, I believe.”

Evander gave Angeline a subtle glance and continued, “Don’t get me wrong. I’m not interested in your private life. But if news of you being in a romantic relationship suddenly breaks out, I’m concerned it will affect the sales of Starlight Jewelry.”

“I see,” Angeline replied with a solemn expression. “Don’t worry, Mr. Golding. I’m not in a relationship; that man is only a friend. He accidentally left his access pass behind when he came for dinner some time ago.”

“Oh.” Evander turned on the tap again to wash his hands while looking nonchalant. “Ocean Skye Group is my business partner, so I know their management pretty well. But I’ve never heard of this person named Jonathan.”

Angeline’s face turned awkward; she did not know how to respond to Evander.

She had no clue that Jonathan had fabricated his job.

She also did not expect his access pass would catch Evander’s attention and raise his suspicion. Hence, she could only keep lying as she did not want to reveal her working relationship with Jonathan.

Angeline tried to hide her awkwardness by grabbing a rag to wipe the water puddles on the floor. “Maybe he’s new to the company. I rarely meet him as we’re both busy with our work.”

There was a sharp glint in Evander’s eyes as he looked at her. He sneered, “You’d better be careful. Don’t land yourself in trouble and jeopardize your revenge plan.”

Angeline slowed in her wiping upon hearing that.

Evander has a point there. If it were in the past, I would never expect him to say these words.

“Thank you, Mr. Golding, for the advice. I will do my due diligence. Let me get you a glass of water.” Angeline stopped wiping the floor and headed toward the water dispenser.

Due to her nervousness, she did not notice a water puddle on the floor. She stepped on it and slipped, her body about to fall flat on the floor.

“Watch out!” Evander cautioned.

Angeline looked at Evander, who was in front of her, stretching out his hand to help her. Without a second thought, she hurriedly grabbed his arm for support.

She did not manage to gain a steady foothold. Instead, she tightened her grip on Evander, dragging him down.

Both of them fell onto the floor simultaneously, producing a loud sound.

Angeline furrowed her brows deeply; her back was in great pain from the impact of the fall. It felt as if her bones were cracked open. Fortunately, Evander managed to shield her head in time. Otherwise, there was a possibility she might suffer from a concussion!

When she regained her senses, all she saw was a close-up of Evander’s suave face. For a moment, she found it hard to breathe.

It was not as if she had never been this close to an actor during her acting career.

However, as she faced Evander, she felt like an eighteen-year-old girl in front of her crush. Her heart was beating fast, and her face was flushing from excitement.

“Angel, what happened?” Floretta, who had been watching television outside, heard the commotion and became concerned. She opened the kitchen door to check on them.

When Floretta saw the two adults on the floor holding each other, she exclaimed with her mouth wide open, “Whoa! Daddy, Angel, are you both playing a game? Is it fun?”

Angeline wished she could burrow into a hole upon hearing Floretta’s innocent question.

“Floretta, listen to me. It’s not what you think…”

“Angel, I want to join you and play together!” Floretta did not care less and began to run toward them excitedly with open arms.

At that moment, Evander had already gotten up. But he could not stop Floretta in time and ended up falling onto the floor again together with her.

It was a comical scene as the trio intertwined with one another, unable to free themselves.

Angeline could hardly move with the father and daughter pressing on top of her. She did a facepalm and looked helpless.

Evander’s face darkened. He warned in a deep voice, “Floretta, stop it and get up right now!”

Floretta, on the other hand, was enjoying herself thoroughly. One moment, she wriggled around in Evander’s embrace. Next, she touched Angeline’s face and said gleefully, “This is so fun. I like hugging. I want to continue playing!”

Angeline was speechless; she did not know how to react to that.

Evander was at his wit’s end as well. He had no idea how to stop Floretta. He was about to speak when he noticed Angeline’s stained clothes.

Her white tank top got wet when she was repairing the leaking pipe earlier.

As Evander stared at her, Angeline felt embarrassed at her grubby appearance.

She promptly used her arms to cover herself. She lowered her head and dared not look Evander in the eye. “I need to cook dinner now. Please bring Floretta outside, as it can be dangerous.”

Evander calmly turned his head around. Carrying Floretta up from the floor, he left the kitchen.

If one had been observant, one would have noticed Evander’s red ears.

Angeline started cooking in the kitchen. Very soon, she whipped up a sumptuous meal in no time. Served on the dining table were celery salad, fried fish fillet, roasted vegetables, and vegetable beef soup.

Meanwhile, Evander was playing video games with Floretta in the living room. It was a heartwarming sight.

Angeline could not help but smile as she saw this scene. “Dinner’s ready,” she called for them.
