Chapter 66
Chapter 66
Frowning, Evander mocked, “You can’t even walk properly. Do you need me to send you back to kindergarten to learn how to walk?”
Angeline’s face turned crimson instantly. All of a sudden, she was at a loss for words.
Most importantly, how should I reply? Tell him that I was thinking about him? That is going to sound suggestive. We aren’t that close yet…
Angeline mustered her courage to gaze directly at Evander. However, her heart was racing, and she spoke unnaturally.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Golding. I was thinking about work just now. I didn’t notice the stairs. Sorry that I troubled you.”
“I’m reminding you to pay attention to the road when you’re with Floretta.”
“Okay.”
Evander’s stern expression gradually dissipated because Angeline was apologetic. Shortly afterward, he pulled out a leather wallet from his pocket and took out a black card from it.
“For the groceries.” He handed the card to Angeline.
Shocked, Angeline stared at the card blankly because she didn’t know if she should accept it.
Look at the exquisite design. There must be a lot of money on the card!
Right after, she immediately got rid of her thoughts and returned the card to Evander.
“Mr. Golding, I can’t accept your expensive card. Besides, I’m just buying groceries. I don’t need that much money.”
Evander frowned as he listened to her. Since he had never given any woman a bank card before, he didn’t know what to expect.
However, he quickly realized that it was sudden and inappropriate for him to give Angeline a bank card.
At the thought of it, Evander took his card back. Then, he opened his wallet and took out all the cash. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Since he didn’t know how much money Angeline needed for the groceries, despite her saying that it wasn’t much, he decided to give all the money in his wallet to her. “I don’t need a woman to pay for me,” he explained in a serious tone.
Angeline didn’t know what to say.
She was still troubled over how to decline the money when Floretta accepted the cash with her chubby hands on her behalf. Smirking mischievously, Floretta said, “There’s no need to save my daddy’s money, Angel. Let’s go and buy some good food.”
Before Angeline could think of what to say, Floretta took her hand and led her away.
Remaining in his spot, Evander watched them enter the supermarket before getting back into his car. Upon checking his inbox, he noticed a new email that was sent by Sylas five minutes ago. It was an email about a route that started from Epea.
Eyes darkening, he dialed Sylas’ number.
Sylas must have been waiting for his phone call because he picked up almost immediately. “Mr. Golding, what are your orders?”
“Is it confirmed?” Evander asked.
“I can’t be too sure for now, but there’s a seventy percent chance that she’s Floretta’s biological mother. After giving birth in a village, she has been living abroad ever since. I’ve sent you a few pictures for authentication.”
It was then Evander noticed that there were a few pictures attached below the email after hearing Sylas’ report.
Upon opening the file, a silhouette of a woman buying groceries popped up on his screen. Although she was wearing plain clothes and no jewelry, she looked young.
Evander enlarged the photo and tried to recall if he had seen her before, but he didn’t recognize the silhouette at all.
More importantly, he was completely drunk that night. The woman was gone when he woke up the next day.
It was five years ago. How was he able to remember the details?
After Evander went silent for a long while, Sylas couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Golding, shall we continue the investigation?”
“Yes, continue until you find her,” Evander replied solemnly, “If she is indeed Floretta’s biological mother, bring her back to the country.”
“Mr. Golding, what are you planning to do?” Sylas asked in a surprised tone.
Although Evander did not reply, Sylas was able to guess what he intended to do correctly.
Floretta is in urgent need of a mother now. Who else would be a better option?
The woman in the picture seemed ordinary. If she was indeed Floretta’s biological mother, Sylas didn’t see how the arrangement would not work.
At the same time, Evander would be able to get rid of Olivine. It was a good deal.
“Yes, Mr. Golding.” Sylas hung up after accepting his mission.
Angeline and Floretta shopped for about half an hour before emerging from the supermarket with two bags of food.
At the sight of them struggling to carry the bags, Evander alighted from his car and opened the trunk for them to put the groceries in.
He opened the bags and peeked into them.
As expected, the bags were filled with Floretta’s favorite snacks.
“Here’s the remaining money, Mr. Golding.” Panting, Angeline opened her palm, revealing the wrinkled banknotes.
“You can keep them.” A warm smile appeared on Evander’s face upon seeing her actions. “The bags are filled with Floretta’s snacks. Since you accompanied her for so long, you can keep the money as your reward.”
Who doesn’t want money?
With that thought, Angeline kept the money in her bag without hesitation and carried Floretta into the car.
Soon, they arrived at Angeline’s home.
Evander helped her carry the groceries. After taking the elevator and arriving at the doorstep, Angeline unlocked the door and gave Evander and Floretta a pair of slippers each.
Angeline still found it hard to believe that Evander was visiting her house.
“My house is rather shabby, Mr. Golding. I’m sorry that you have to put up with this.”
“Not at all,” Evander replied. “It is very clean.”
Is that a praise from him? Whatever.
Angeline stopped thinking about it. After leading Evander and Floretta to the couch, she poured two glasses of water for them.
“Please help yourself while I prepare dinner in the kitchen, Mr. Golding. Here’s the remote control for the television and some board games for you and Floretta to play.”
Angeline explained in detail as though worried that Evander might not feel welcomed.
Once everything was in place, Angeline gathered the ingredients and headed toward the kitchen.
Floretta watched television attentively while clutching a packet of snacks.
On the other hand, having nothing to do, Evander got up from the couch and paced around the living room.
When he came across one of the cupboards, he noticed an access pass with a picture of a man’s face on it.
Frowning, he lifted the card up with his slender fingers.
The card belonged to a man named Jonathan Green, who was an administrative manager of Ocean Skye Group.
Evander’s face darkened as he scrutinized the handsome man in the photograph because he could tell that the man was crafty from his eyes.
How does Angeline know him?
Suddenly, a loud sound and a woman’s scream came from the kitchen. “Argh! There’s so much water!”
Hearing that, Evander placed the card back and strode to the kitchen quickly.
The kitchen floor was a mess. Angeline was squatting by the faucet and fiddling with something.
The kitchen was filled with an unpleasant stench.
“What are you doing?” Evander asked as he covered his nose and fanned away the stench in front of him.
“I’m unclogging the pipe.” Angeline turned around and looked at him innocently. “I forgot how this should be installed, and now there’s water everywhere. Have I disturbed you?”
“How stupid are you?”
Evander glared at Angeline in frustration.
