Her Precious Baby

Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Hearing that, Hanson stopped in his tracks. The sympathy he had in his heart for Angeline disappeared when he recalled the latter’s harsh words. With that, he left with Joseline.

Joseline glanced at Angeline and sneered at her miserable state. This is what you get for pissing me off! Let’s see how long you can stay smug and arrogant!

The crowd chattered away, and Angeline pretended to be deaf.

After all, she had already learned how to keep her cool and stay calm, having endured five years of hardship.

She helped herself up from the ground and winced at the glasses poking deep into her palm. When she was about to pull them out, a huge hand grabbed her by the arm.

The next moment, a man’s deep voice rang above her head. “If you don’t want your hand, you might as well cut it off. It’s easier and quicker that way.”

Angeline raised her head, only to see Evander’s perfect face and his deep frown.

“Mr. Golding, what are you—”

Instead of answering her, Evander looked at the crowd and said emotionlessly, “Do you all have nothing better to do?”

Intimidated by his words, the crowd dispersed.

Evander looked at the disheveled Angeline with disdain. In a manner one would never describe as gentle, he removed his jacket and threw it on Angeline’s body.

Looking at her bloody hands, Evander couldn’t help but frown again. However, despite being irritated and annoyed by her situation, he reached out and scooped her up.

Angeline’s eyes went wide with surprise, and her body stiffened. “Let me down. I can walk on my own…”

“You’d better be quiet. I don’t have much patience.” The man’s voice was deep and clear.

Angeline obediently shut her mouth. Listening to his strong and steady heartbeat, she felt ill at ease.

She felt as if she was dreaming, for the fact that Evander coming to her rescue was simply unbelievable.

When Evander carried her to the lounge, Sylas had already brought a doctor over.

The room was silent. Looking at Evander’s broad back, Angeline dared not say a word, and her breathing quickened.

The doctor opened the first aid kit, then disinfected and applied a green ointment to her wounds.

“Ouch!” Angeline gritted her teeth in pain, tears welling up in her eyes.

Evander looked up from his phone and at the doctor. “Be more gentle.”

“Understood.” The doctor was so intimidated that he was sweating buckets. “Your wounds won’t leave any scars with this ointment. Of course, I have some other ointment, but they aren’t as good as this one.”

“Go on. I can take it,” Angeline said hurriedly. Despite the mixed emotions in her eyes as she looked at Evander, her heart softened. He’s not as cold-hearted and unapproachable as he seems.

After he was done applying the ointment, the doctor bandaged the wound and said, “You’re lucky that the wounds aren’t deep, but still, you must be careful. Refrain from doing any heavy work and avoid wetting your wounds.”

Angeline thanked him and then Sylas sent him off.

In the lounge, only she and Evander were left. The atmosphere was extremely awkward.

Evander was typing away on his phone expressionlessly, having no intention of talking to her, when Angeline suddenly sprang up to her feet, cleared her throat, and said seriously, “Thank you for your help, Mr. Golding.”

“Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not doing this for you.” Evander looked up at her, his eyes frigid. “I simply don’t want to be on the headlines the next day. I’d do the same if it were someone else.”

Angeline was at a loss for words. After a moment, she said, “And that’s none of my concern. I only know that if you hadn’t shown up, I’d have been so embarrassed today.”

Right then, the door of the lounge was violently pushed open, and it slammed against the wall. “Angeline, I need an explanation from you for the huge mess outside.”

Delano could be seen barging in unhappily, with his bodyguards following behind him.

“Mr. Golding? What are you doing here?” However, the next moment, he was dumbstruck when he saw that Evander was there. He was so embarrassed that he wished the ground would swallow him whole.

Evander regarded Delano with a hint of impatience flickering in his eyes. “Would you like to have a seat and have some tea to put out the fire burning in you, Mr. Halls?”

His tone was heavy with warning.

Delano broke out in a cold sweat. “No, thank you.”

Angeline looked at Delano apologetically and said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Halls. This is all my fault, so I’ll bear the responsibilities. I’ll pay for the damage with my salary.”

“Now, did you listen to what you just said, Ms. Sorelle? Forget about responsibilities. Look at you. You’re hurt! Are your hands all right?” Delano asked with concern, his attitude toward Angeline taking a sharp turn.

Angeline was taken aback. “I’m fine. Thank you.”

“And that will do. Leave the rest to the others. Your task right now is to get a good rest.” Delano glanced at Evander and smiled politely. “Well then, if I may excuse myself.” Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

With that, he closed the doors and left in confusion. Strange, I thought they said Evander is trying to take Angeline down but there they are, alone in the same room. Now that’s some ambiguous relationship there. Oh, forget it. I should just stay away from anybody who’s related to Evander.

Evander did not stay in the lounge for too long. As soon as he left, Angeline took out her phone and saw that she was trending on Twitter, just as she had expected.

The media had posted pictures of her falling on the bar. Her hair was a mess, and her snowy-white skin was exposed.

One of the headlines read: Shocking news! Angeline Sorelle failed to seduce Hanson Yiurk and was instead taught a lesson by Joseline Sorelle.

Angeline’s temper sparked after she read the article.

If it weren’t because of how expensive her phone was, she would’ve smashed it to the ground. Do these people have nothing better to do?

However, after searching and finding not a single photo of Evander lending her a helping hand, she heaved a sigh of relief. She reckoned things would be even more complicated if the man was dragged into this mess.

Nancy was the first to reach out to her on WhatsApp. Angeline snapped a few photos of her hand and sent them to Nancy with an aggrieved emoji: I’m fine for now. It’s just the pain.

Nancy quickly replied: You’re really good at getting yourself hurt, aren’t you? Wait right there. I’ll have the driver pick you up.

A surge of warmth filled Angeline’s heart as she read the text. However, her right eyelid kept twitching for some reason, and she had a bad feeling about it.

She was well aware of what kind of person Joseline was. There was no way Joseline would let her off that easily after she had kicked up such a fuss.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps outside the door. “Listen carefully! The editor-in-chief bribed the manager, so you’d better find Angeline and get your hands on the first-hand news if you don’t want to lose your job!”

Hearing that, Angeline blanched. These evil wretches would do anything to get their hands on exclusive news!

She knew that this lounge was no longer safe as she had heard that they were searching the rooms one by one.

Fortunately, she noticed a reporter’s outfit lying on the table beside her. Without hesitation, she put it on and sneakily opened the door, slipping away when the paparazzi weren’t looking.

However, just as she reached a corner, one of the paparazzi shouted, “Look! Isn’t that the heels worn by Angeline tonight?”
