Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Denise finally understood what was going on. She would be competing against Angeline, and that realization made her so angry that she trembled and almost smashed the glass near her.
Who would’ve thought that the prize that was within her grasp would be snatched from right under her nose like that?
It didn’t take long before the contract was printed.
Angeline didn’t calm down until she signed her name on the dotted line.
Denise, however, was burning with rage. Her hand, which was holding the pen, was trembling a little when she pressed the pen down to sign her name.
She used so much effort getting that contract, and it ended up being a stepping stone for Angeline, so it was only natural that Denise wasn’t okay with it.
Denise felt as though she had lost a part of her soul after she signed the papers. She had to grip her manager’s hand to calm herself down.
“Thank you, Mr. Golding, for giving us the opportunity to work for you,” said Denise as she held the contract. She was doing her best to suppress her emotions and had put on a warm smile before she turned to Angeline. “Congratulations, Ms. Sorelle. I guess I should ask you to take it easy on me.”
Angeline sneered internally. Click! She put the cap back on the pen and ignored Denise entirely.
After signing the contracts, Evander left for work. He had Sylas get the car from the parking lot and take Floretta home.
Angeline and Floretta ended up holding hands and leaving Golding Group together. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
The little one kept humming and skipping happily as she walked.
Angeline crouched down when they were by the entrance. “Floretta, you’ve helped me tremendously today, and I want to thank you for it. Is there anything you’d like as a present?”
“Angel, I am your biggest fan, so let’s not be that courteous or talk about presents,” replied Floretta. She was smiling so brightly that her dimples and her tiny teeth revealed themselves.
Angeline grinned. Her heart melted at the sight of that.
She thought about it a little before fishing out a piece of paper and a pen from her bag. After that, she wrote her personal contact details on it.
“Then, I will promise to grant you one wish. You can call me once you decide what you want,” said Angeline warmly before placing the note in Floretta’s pocket.
Floretta smiled. Her chubby hands flew to her lips, and it looked as though she was trying to stop herself from giggling aloud.
Oh, this is great. I didn’t even need to work that hard to get Mommy’s phone number. Eek! Does that mean I’ll get to ask her to come to play with me whenever I want?
Evander had a brief meeting with the top managers and discussed the major projects that the subsidiary companies would be handling for that quarter. He managed to get the shareholders and the representatives to calm down right away. That was why it didn’t take long before he took the private elevator and returned to the lobby. There, he saw his daughter smiling at the lady.
He moved as though he was trying to clean the floor with his leather shoes as he walked extremely slowly.
I have truly underestimated that woman’s skills at manipulating others. She had my daughter wrapped around her greedy finger!
“Ms. Sorelle, you got what you came for, so please leave Floretta alone,” said Evander. He made his way to the girls and dragged Floretta to him.
He kept his other hand in his pocket, so everything about him, even the silver button on his coat, glowed with distaste.
Angeline stood there awkwardly and frowned deeply. “I think you misread the situation, Mr. Golding. The truth is that I simply enjoy Floretta’s company and—”
Evander sneered to cut her words short, “If memory serves, this is only the third time you’ve met with Floretta, right?”
She claims to grow fond of Floretta even though they’ve only had three encounters… My gosh, this woman is a terrible liar.
Angeline stopped talking. Exasperation and helplessness filled her.
She knew that there was nothing she could say to convince him otherwise, so she decided against talking at all. At least that would prevent him from further disliking her.
Sylas drove up with the car at that moment.
Evander held Floretta’s hand. His voice was sweeter when he spoke to her. “Floretta, go home and be good, okay? I’ll go home early tonight after my meeting concludes.”
“But…” murmured Floretta. She stared at Angeline with her big, round eyes because she truly wanted the latter to play with her.
Evander’s smile turned upside down right away. Without uttering another word, he picked Floretta up from the ground and put her into the car. The guy did not let his daughter stay for a moment longer and
had Sylas drive away immediately.
Angeline watched until the car Floretta was in had turned the corner and was out of her view. She later thought about what Evander said and got so upset that she turned around to face him. That would be the last time she explained herself to him. “Mr. Golding, you might see me as a scheming woman, but I am not someone who would go after a kid.”
“Is that so?” replied Evander. His gaze was emotionless when he looked at her. “I hope that is true.”
After saying all that, he paused for a moment before saying, “Good luck with the competition.”
Those words were meant to be a blessing, but Evander did not even glance at her when he spoke. He took a step forward and walked past her to go to his office.
The nonchalance and stoicism he displayed infuriated Angeline even more. What gives? Why does he get to act as though I’m not a victim here as well? I am innocent. Yet, I am somehow forced to carry this label as a manipulative woman.
