Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Evander was considering Sylas’ suggestion when they heard someone knocking on the door.
He shot Sylas a glance and motioned at him to open the door.
Sylas did as told and saw a woman standing outside with a beige coat and sunglasses on.
“Ms. Campbell?” Sylas exclaimed in shock, as he wasn’t expecting her to show up.
Denise took her sunglasses off and glanced at Evander, who was standing in front of his desk, as she said, “Hello, Mr. Golding.”
She then brushed past Sylas and made her way into the office. It wasn’t until she noticed Angeline standing on the side that her smile became frozen in place.
Angeline? What’s she doing here?
Angeline, too, frowned slightly when she saw Denise come in.
She was a little surprised when she turned toward Evander and saw him narrow his eyes.
Oh? So he didn’t summon her, then?
Denise’s manager gave her a pinch on the waist to snap her out of it and said, “Mr. Golding’s office sure is crowded today, huh? Looks like we came at the right time, Denise!”
As Sylas shut the door behind them, the two of them made a beeline for Evander.
“Mr. Golding, I must say, we were thrilled when we received word that Denise will be the ambassador for Starlight Jewelry! In order to save you the trouble of drafting a contract, we’ve already prepared one for you before coming over!” the manager said flatteringly while presenting the contract.
“Wow! Aren’t you an eager one?” Having regained her composure, Denise walked up to Angeline and wrapped her arm around hers as she continued, “It’s nice to see you here, Ms. Sorelle! Since you’re familiar with endorsing Starlight Jewelry’s products, I have some questions that I’d like your advice on!”
Having witnessed Denise’s ability to play the part of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Angeline brushed her arm off and took a step back.
“I’m afraid you’re in for a huge disappointment, Ms. Campbell. Starlight Jewelry is the one making the rules, so there isn’t much I can do to help you out,” she said coldly.
“That’s all right! You’re a very excellent actor, Ms. Sorelle. We should share our experiences more often. That way, you won’t get eliminated so easily next time!” Denise replied sarcastically. She even made sure to emphasize the word “eliminated.”
“You…” Angeline’s eyes went wide with anger, but there wasn’t anything she could say in retaliation.
As the tension between the two continued to rise, Evander realized it was the first time he had seen Angeline get insulted like this.
This woman is ridiculously bold and arrogant. If I don’t teach her a harsh lesson now, she might pull even crazier stunts in the future!
With that in mind, he took the contract over from Denise’s manager and began skimming through it.
After going through a few pages, he saw that it was very well prepared, which showed they had a lawyer write it for them.
After getting to the last page without spotting any issues, Evander grabbed his pen and was going to sign it.
Denise may be a sloppy eater, but I’d much rather pick her as the next quarter’s ambassador than someone with ulterior motives like Angeline!
Denise and her manager exchanged excited glances when they saw that.
Yes! Victory will be ours!
In that critical moment, a chubby little hand slammed its fist down on the contract.
Floretta then climbed onto the desk and glared angrily at Evander. “I can’t believe you’re breaking your promise, Daddy!” she exclaimed with a pout. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Who taught you to climb on the table?” Evander scooped her into his arms and sat her down on his lap. “Also, I didn’t promise you anything.”
Floretta wrapped her arms around his neck and rocked. “But you’re the one who disrespected me first! Was my suggestion not good enough for you?”
Unable to accept her disrespecting him in front of others, Evander brushed her arms off and shouted coldly, “You’re too young to understand adult decisions!”
Upset at being scolded like that, Floretta hopped off his lap and stared at him with teary eyes.
“An adult like you shouldn’t be taking a child’s words too seriously, Mr. Golding!” Angeline exclaimed as she instinctively stepped forward and carried Floretta in her arms.
Evander, who had just picked up the pen, paused and glared at her in displeasure.
“Ms. Sorelle, an outsider like yourself is in no position to criticize my parenting methods!”
Angeline fell silent as she had nothing to say in retaliation.
Since Floretta was clinging tightly to her shirt, Angeline could only give her a hug in an attempt to comfort her.
This poor child… She must’ve been through a lot, huh?
Denise and her manager fell speechless with shock after seeing Evander argue with Floretta.
What? Evander has never been rumored to have a girlfriend or anything, so why does he have a daughter? Also, who’s the mother of his daughter?
Being the first to snap out of her daze, Denise flashed Floretta a smile and beckoned at her. “Aww, you’re such a cute little girl! Come on; I’ll buy you some candy, okay?”
“No!”
Floretta shook her head and nuzzled against Angeline. “I still think Angel is much prettier! You have really bad taste, Daddy!”
She was still too young to tell right from wrong, but she knew she had to support her potential future mom no matter what.
The smile on Denise’s face was frozen in place. She shot the others around her a glance before asking Floretta, “Do you have some kind of misunderstanding toward me?”
Before Denise could say anything further, Floretta came up with another idea.
If I can’t force Daddy into listening to me, then I’ll try coaxing him instead!
She then broke free from Angeline’s embrace and made her way over to her father.
Evander frowned as he watched her nuzzle against his chest.
What the heck is she trying to do this time?
After adjusting herself into a comfortable position, Floretta placed a hand over Evander’s cheek and said in her sweetest voice possible, “How about we have a little bet, Daddy? Angel is really good at this stuff. If she wins, you’ll have to let her star in the ads. If she loses, I’ll do anything you say from now on. Is that okay with you, Daddy?”
That was the first time Floretta had behaved so affectionately toward him.
The warmth of her body and the sweetness of her voice made Evander’s heart melt a little.
It was obvious that he didn’t want to disappoint her too much.
Floretta then kissed him on the cheek and continued with a pout, “Besides, Golding Group will become even more famous if you have two ads instead of one! That way, you’ll be able to make lots of money and buy me pretty dresses!”
What the heck has Angeline done to win her over like this? Why would she go so far as to defend that woman?
“You’ve been way too naughty this time, Floretta,” Evander said with a conflicted look on his face. Despite having his heart melted, Evander maintained his cold expression as he placed Floretta back on his lap.
Floretta had a disappointed look in her eyes when she realized her plan had failed once again.
I’m sorry, Angel! I tried to help you out, but my daddy is too dumb to listen!
After a brief moment of silence, Evander said, “Sylas, I want you to make a copy of this contract.”
D-Did he just agree to give me a chance?
Angeline was utterly shocked. It wasn’t until she saw Floretta winking at her that she realized what was going on.
“Thank you, Mr. Golding,” she said respectfully.
Evander tapped his finger on the desk and shot her a cold gaze as he reminded her, “This will be a fair competition between you two. You won’t get another chance if you mess this up.”
Angeline was too happy to let his warning bother her.
That’s fine! An opportunity is all I need anyway! I’ll reclaim my honor and pride once I win this!
