CHAPTER 31
=-Amber’s POV=-
“Dale, what’s wrong with you?” I asked him because he acted differently. He seemed to be a different person from the Dale I used to interact with each day. “Wait, are you high on drugs?”
“W-what? Drugs? I don’t do drugs, Amber,” he replied with a lot of conviction in his voice.
“Then, what’s wrong with you? Look, I have known you for a long time, and you are not like this, Dale. Tell me who did this to you,” I asked while referring to the bruises on his jaw. “Let’s go inside for now. I will treat your wounds,” I told him, and he just nodded his head in agreement.
“What about me?” Melanie asked.
Actually, I have forgotten that she was sitting on the swing. My attention was focused on Dale, so I didn’t expect Melanie would stay here and eavesdrop on our conversation.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
“What about you, Melanie? If you have nothing to do, please prepare something to eat,” Dale ordered, and even if I didn’t hate Melanie that much, I was gloating when Dale intervened.
“Yes, sir,” Melanie said, and she was immediately out of the swing, and walked ahead of us.
From time to time, Melanie would take a peek at us since Dale and I were walking too slowly.
“Can you tell me now what happens?” I asked him.
“Something came up and Jacob’s new wife kidnapped Bethany by using me,” he replied.
“The Alpha’s new wife? Lily Travis?”
“Yes, that’s her. Soon, I will be able to tell you everything but for now, I am starving,” he said.
“Starving and you also need your wound to be treated,” I insisted.
“It’s nothing compared to the wounds I had in the past, this is not skin deep, so there’s nothing to worry about,” he explained.
“So, when you were gone, you were with Bethany, and you guys were abducted?” I asked but the mere mention of another woman’s name made me feel so uncomfortable.
I wanted to ask him about Bethany but Dale would probably assume I was being nosy for my own good. Still, I was dying to know anything about that woman, with who he had late-night talks sometimes.
“How are you related to Bethany? You seemed to be so concerned about her,” I noticed.
“Soon, I will introduce you to her,” he promised.
“Alright. Let’s get something to eat first before I will treat those wounds,” I told him.
“Yeah, let’s get something to eat first before I will eat you,” he teased me.
Yeah, I knew he was just teasing me, but why did he have to whisper those words into my ear? Oh God, he really knew how to make me uncomfortable, and Melanie probably noticed the redness of my cheeks when we entered the dining room.
Melanie just heated the leftover food that we had for lunch, and then she also prepared a plate of French fries with lots of cheese in it. We had fried chicken at lunch, so it would go well with fries or even burgers.
If Melanie’s attitude was problematic, her skills in cooking were commendable. I think she knew to cook anything, or she can just make anything out of scratch, and it was one of the reasons why I offered her a job in Clayland.
“Do you also want a glass of juice, Amber?” she asked after serving Dale’s favorite juice; a mixture of pineapple and orange juice.
“No, thank you. I think I will just have a glass of soda with lots of ice,” I informed Melanie who immediately went to get my drink, but before Melanie could totally get it, Dale stopped her.
“Soda is not good for her baby, Melanie. Get her a glass of juice, or water,” he ordered.
“Dale! It’s not like I can have a soda every meal, and what’s gotten into you? You really didn’t care about my diet in the past,” I reminded him.
“That was in the past, Amber. For now, I have to take care of you and the baby,” he announced.
“You don’t have to. I’m getting married to Jacob’s brother very soon, and since the man was aware of my situation, he will probably take care of me,” I told him, but then he suddenly clenched his jaw.
“I will talk to Jacob about it, Bethany. I can’t let get married to another man,” he stated.
“Hmmm, I think it’s already too late for that, Dale. The wedding invitations were already distributed, and you know that the preparations were done. I just have to wait for the right date to go to Clayland and live there.”
“Amber, no!”
“What’s your problem? Ever since you were excited to ship me off to Clayland!”
It was a subtle reminder of his conversation with Jacob when he mentioned shipping me off to Clayland, and nothing would change in his plans. The moment, I overheard that conversation, I felt like dying, but I couldn’t!
“Trust me on this, sweetheart, okay?”
He seemed so eager about stopping the marriage, and I wondered if his words were really genuine earlier.
“Why are you doing this, Dale? It isn’t like you to compromise your plan because of me,” I told him.
“Because I love you. I love you so much that I can sacrifice anything just to have you by my side forever,” he answered.
“Thank you for saying those words, Dale. It means a lot to me,” I told him without directly telling him how much I love, him or how much I cared about him. Well, he already knew how I felt about him. He even told me that it was my weakness.
After eating, Dale informed Melanie to take rest for an hour or two, then she may start preparing for dinner. Dale also informed Melanie that there would be guests at dinner tonight.
The mere mention of guests coming into his home made me worried. Dale didn’t bring anyone at home, except for Jacob. So, I assumed that his guest would be the important people in the pack. Alpha Jacob would probably come, too!
I took Dale into his room to treat the bruises on his skin. After cleaning them, I applied some ointment before putting on a bandage. He was against the idea, and to prove his point, he grabbed me into the bathroom.
The moment he opened the shower, I got his point.
“Come here, Amber,” he mumbled in a soft voice, and then he grabbed me to go closer to him.
The water made my clothes wet, and his clothes were also wet. I frowned at his childish act, but when he started taking off my clothes, one by one, I already had an idea what was going to happen next.
