After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael)

Chapter 594 Does He Really Love Her?

In the past, James was like a fearless devil-may-care character.

Tears streaming down her face, Maggie walked over and grabbed James' cold hand. "James, how are you feeling? It's me, Maggie. Do you remember me?" Chloe stood by, somewhat speechless, thinking to herself, "It's as if having surgery will make him lose his memory, like something out of a melodrama." As an outsider, Chloe had no intention of saying anything and just stood by quietly.

But Michael gave her a shove. "Aren't you going over? That's the father of your baby!"

Michael thought, "How can she just stand there while another woman gets all lovey-dovey with the father of her baby?

She used to get mad even when I got a little too close to Lucy. How come she's so calm now?"

Chloe felt exasperated, but to keep up appearances, she walked over.

"James, are you okay?"

Her tone was stiff, especially compared to Maggie's gentle voice.

But James simply nodded at her and then, with great effort, used his other hand to pull his hand away from Maggie's grasp.

The nurse, observing this from the back, quickly intervened to diffuse the situation. "Let's get him into the room. He still needs rest!"

Maggie was so startled by James' blunt rejection that she stumbled.

Tears welled up in her eyes again. She took a deep breath before following Chloe into the hospital room.

Though James was awake, the anesthesia hadn't completely worn off, so he lay there quietly, unable to say much.

Maggie busied herself, constantly asking if he needed his hands wiped or if he was feeling uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Michael stood there like statues.

"Now that the surgery was a success, you can rest, right? You've still got a baby to think about."

Maggie froze upon hearing this, her hand stopping in mid-air.NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

She kept telling herself that the baby didn't really exist or that even if it did, it was just an accident.

But when Michael brought up the truth again, it tore her apart.

She and James didn't have a child, yet Chloe was carrying his.

Chloe was about to shake her head, but then Michael added, "You just gave her a blood transfusion, Chloe. You need to take care of yourself too!"

Upon hearing that, James' fingers twitched slightly. He turned his head with effort, looking at Chloe. "You gave me blood?"

Chloe nodded. "It wasn't much."

And indeed, it hadn't been much.

James looked at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

Seeing that James' gaze was now entirely focused on Chloe, with no room left for her, Maggie's heart shattered.

If she could, she would have given him blood herself just to see a grateful look in his eyes.

But their blood types didn't even match.

"Chloe, you should go rest!"

James' face darkened as he spoke, the words coming out like a command.

For once, Michael didn't glare at James for his tone. After all, what James said was exactly what he had been thinking.

Chloe had been waiting outside for so long and was genuinely exhausted.

Earlier, not knowing James' condition, she couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried. Now that he was out of surgery and everything seemed to be fine, she felt her exhaustion catching up with her. "I'll go take a nap in the room next door. Call me if you need anything."

The room next door was empty. She had already checked.

James lay on the bed, watching her leave, while Michael naturally followed her, staying close by.

Once the two of them were gone, Maggie turned to James. "You've fallen for her, haven't you? The real kind of love?"
