Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1329

Chapter 1329

The voice was soft, but it came from below.

Adrian looked down at the man he was holding. James's eyes were wide open, and he was so startled that Adrian quickly let go.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

Adrian wasn't sure why he was apologizing. He hadn't meant any harm, yet he still felt embarrassed.

James smiled. "It's fine. I understand."

Adrian felt relieved. There was no anger in James's response, and he realized he might be overthinking things. The night before, he had been up late reading, and the stories had started to mix with his thoughts.

"Thanks for helping me. I'm feeling better now."Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

Pearl was packing up her medical equipment and gave him a calm look. "Don't thank me. Esther asked me to check on you. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have been involved."

She added, "I gave you a few jabs in a few key points to relieve your pain, but we need to bring you to my mentor for long-term treatment."

Pearl knew the seriousness of his condition when she checked him over. She worried that even her mentor, Simon, might not be able to cure him. Esther loved James dearly, and if he passed away, the loss of two men she loved would devastate her.

"I understand my situation. If there's no cure, then let me be."

Pearl's frustration showed as she responded sharply. "What do you mean, 'let me be'? You broke up with Esther over this and made up terrible excuses to hurt her and push her away. Now that she knows the truth and there's still a chance to get better, you want to give up? What are you thinking?"

Pearl had always wanted to confront him about this, and now she finally did. She was usually more restrained, but she had never scolded him like this before.

Adrian watched, surprised to see this side of Pearl. He made a mental note to tread carefully around her.

James didn't expect such a harsh response, but he held back any objections since she was trying to help. "...I'm sorry."

It was indeed ruthless of him to end things with Esther before, but he did it because he couldn't bear the thought of her watching him deteriorate. Esther had always admired his looks, and he feared she might leave him if his appearance changed drastically due to treatments.

Seeing James so remorseful made Pearl's anger fade. "Alright, I'll stop here. You should rest, and I'll come back to check on you later."

James nodded, and Pearl left the room with Adrian.

Agnes had been waiting outside for a while and finally went to get something to eat after Esther told her to. Now, only Esther remained, silently keeping watch.
