Chapter 66
Chapter 66 What About Us?
Mala knew that he was crucial to the company. That was why she had gone all the way to Eldertown. “Po | have anything planned after 4, p.m.?” Mala asked.
“Nope, nothing.”
Maia nodded. She was planning to leave early today.
“Buck, | want you to look into the news about Zera oppressing the careers of other female actresses.”
“Are you going to sue that bitch?”
“| know what she’s like. How dare she try to rob my sister of a job opportunity? someone like her doesn’t deserve to be idolized.”
Buck nodded in agreement as he added, “Did she really steal one of Ms. Hope’s jobs?”
“You seem quite concerned about about my sister,” Maia teased.
“No, | was just curious. | think she’s a good actress!”
“Well then, you should investigate this thoroughly. Don’t you want to teach Zera a lesson too?” “Of course, | do! I'll make sure to find out everything | can!” Buck vowed.
After Buck had left Maia’s office, she could not help but notice that he was being rather emotional. Maia smiled knowingly and went back to focus on her work.
She was stuck in her office for the rest of the afternoon. From reviewing the progress of different projects to having executive meetings, Maia felt like she did not have enough time to complete her work. In the blink of an eye, it was already 4 p.m.
Maia did not forget her promise to Hope that she would see Homer as she left her office at
Ap.m. sharp.
The moment Maia emerged from her office, Hope ran straight up to her. It was as if Hope was constantly monitoring her. “Are you ready to leave?” Hope asked excitedly.
Maia nodded as Hope offered to carry her bag. Hope did not even give her a chance to consider the offer as she had snatched the handbag out of Maia’s hand and dragged her to the elevators.
The scene of Hope holding onto Maia drew the attention of her employees. They started
“Look at Hope Warren holding our CEO's arm. Are they friends?”
“Maybe they’re besties? Look at how happy Hope is. Could she be ‘interested‘ in Ms. Mala?”
“| heard that Hope’s exclusive contract with her current company is about to expire. Maybe Ms. Maia was planning to scout her?”
Everyone had their own speculations, but no one knew if they were true. Moreover, none of them could have guessed that Hope was actually Maia’s stepsister.
After half an hour, they got to the Burgess’s residence. Before they entered the villa, Maia could already smell a strong scent of disinfectant.
“Father’s immune system has been declining, so to prevent further complications, I’ve instructed the housekeepers to disinfect everything daily. The reason why I’ve moved him here was also to prevent the tabloids from bothering him.” Hope heaved a sigh.
“Is my girl home?” Homer's voice came from inside.
“Dad, I’ve brought a special guest with me!”
The moment Homer saw Maia, he dropped the cup of tea he had in his hand.
“Maia is here too.”
As Maia studied him closely. She noticed that his hair had turned mostly white and that he had aged a lot since she last saw him.
Maia furrowed her eyebrows as she did not know what to say. Finally, she decided to give him a nod of acknowledgement. After all that had happened, she could not bring herself to call him
her father.
Hope immediately ran forward to help him. “Dad, why don’t you have a chat with Maia? I'll clean up this mess.”
“Right. Let’s go upstairs, Maia.” Homer turned and started walking towards the stairs.
Maia did not move until Hope called out to her and gently nudged her forward. “Father is still very weak. Please be patient with him.” Hope pleaded once again.
Maia just squared her shoulders and followed behind him. When they got to Homer's study on the second floor, Maia could no longer tolerate the insufferable atmosphere. As she stood in front of his desk, she wanted nothing more than to leave this place.
Homer remained silent as he took out a heavy wooden chest and placed it on the table. After that he finally spoke.
“Maia, I’ve wanted to speak to you for a while now, but you’ve been ignoring my messages. | was the one who told Hope about this. | didn’t expect that you would agree to follow her here.”
“Hope has nothing to do with the feud that we have. She was never involved in any of this.” Mala insisted as she was not someone who would take out her anger on the innocent.
Homer nodded, “Yes, Hope is innocent. She doesn’t know anything.
“What do you want from me?”
“Maia, my health is deteriorating. Yvette is my wife and Hope’s mother, and | was hoping that you could avoid sending her to prison.”
“You want me to let her go?” Maia smiled mockingly. She should have known that Homer wanted something from her. It was all because she gave in to Hope. She should not have been
so kind.
“It's out of the question!” She turned around and stomped towards the door.
“| have something that you won’t be able to turn down! Let me strike you a deal!” Homer yelled after her. “What are you talking about?”
“Doesn't this look familiar to you?” He tapped on the wooden chest in front of him.
“That’s myThis belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
mother’s!”
“Yes, and Ill return everything to you as long as you promise to let Yvette go.”
Homer continued, “I know you are a kind girl. I’m sorry that we have wronged you, but can’t you let bygones be bygones? | only want Hope to have a family. You agree that she’s innocent, right?”
Maia sneered at him after hearing that. “What about us? Aren’t Errol and | innocent as well?”
