Chapter 51
Chapter 51 Touched by Strangers
As Maia didn’t know how to react, Jordan covered her by thanking the doctor.
When the doctor was gone, he said, “I'll go settle the medical bill for Cedric’s surgery.” Maia nodded and asked, “Jordan, when do you think the airport will resume operation?” “It's not badly affected by the flood, but | think it might take a week at least.”
“| think he needs a week to recuperate after the surgery. Can you help me arrange a chartered flight to bring him back to Prismara when the airport resumes operation?”
She wouldn't need to deal with him once he returned. “Sure.” Jordan nodded. “Leave it to me.” After Maia thanked him, she headed toward Room 508. The fifth floor was so quiet that Maia could hear her footsteps.
When she walked into the room and saw the worn-out man lying on the bed, she thought of how he protected her as they were about to hit the billboard.
Maia let out a bitter chuckle and asked, “What is this all about? Some sort of atonement?” She looked away and prepared to leave.
Having made sure that he was fine, she did not need to be there as the medical staff would take care of him.
However, just as she turned to leave, his warm hand grabbed hers..
“Is atonement a form of love? If it is, then you’re right.”
Maia tensed up and struggled to break free. She said coldly, “You pretended to be asleep?” “No, | was just tired.”
“Then get some rest.” She turned to leave.C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
“Do you hate me that much?” His voice was tired yet sexy.
“l only know | don’t love you.”
The room fell into dead silence. Cedric looked solemn. This was the second time he had felt fear. The first time was a year ago, when he feared for her safety during the fire.
“Give me a chance, Maia.” The only thing he wanted now was to be with her again.
With her back facing him, she said, “I’m grateful that you saved me today, but it doesn’t mean I've forgotten what you did to me in the past.”

She took a deep breath and continued, “Do you remember that fire a year ago? My love for you. had died back then. So don’t ask me for a second chance, okay? It’s just not going to happen.
“Besides, don’t forget that you’re engaged.” She clenched her fists.
His gaze became dull as her own words stung her. She had been through this kind of agony, hadn’t she? Cedric felt even more distressed.
However, regardless of what she said, he was determined to win her back.
He explained, “I’ve never agreed to marry her.”
“What do | care? That’s between you and her. Just remember that we divorced a year ago, all right?”
Cedric coughed violently.
Maia remembered the doctor saying having a good mood would benefit his recovery. Did what she said agitate him? As he kept coughing, Maia returned to his side and asked, “Are you all right?”
“You care about me.” He smiled.
“That’s because you saved me!”
‘Is
that so?” He smiled and held her hand tightly, not letting go no matter how she struggled. “You're a fucking liar.” but it was
He knew she might only care about him briefly, good enough for him.
Glaring at him, Maia said bluntly, “Let me go!”
Why was he still so strong after he was injured? He exerted more strength, determined to hold onto her.
“You said just now you were grateful that | saved you, right?” he said.
Maia frowned. “Let me go first!”
“Answer me!”
yes,
I'm grateful you saved me, but that doesn’t mean you can hold onto my hand forever!”
He refused to budge. “Then take care of me until I'm discharged.”
“What did you say?” Maia looked at him in disbelief.
“Take care of me,” he said slowly.
“Don't push it, Cedric! | didn’t ask you to save me, did 1?”
“How could you say anything so ungrateful?” He narrowed his eyes at her.
As he did save her, Maia felt somewhat guilty.
“I'll hire professional healthcare staff to take care of you.”
“| don’t like strangers to touch me,” he said grimly, still not letting her go. Maia glared at him in exasperation.
