Chapter 224
At the party the day before, she played the hostess gracefully, setting the stage for him. But when he arrived with Natalie in his arms, Madelyn's star faded as quickly as it had shone.
"Why did you give me hope only to crush my dignity beneath your feet?" Madelyn thought.
"Were I you, I'd get out of here. At least, I would change into something clean first," a quiet voice suggested from behind.
Madelyn turned to see Benjamin, a slight frown on his face.
"Instead of sticking around and being humiliated, wouldn't it be better to save some face?" he added, raising an eyebrow at her before continuing softly, "The scenery's nice around here. A walk would do you good, better than moping indoors."
Madelyn glared at Benjamin and spun on her heel, heading toward her room.
Benjamin watched her retreat and couldn't help but curl his lip in a smirk.
Brian, that old wolf, was terrifying when he was on the prowl.
About half an hour later, noticing Natalie's tears, Brian gently kissed her, gradually coming to a halt. His hand stayed protectively at her back. After a moment, he asked in a low voice, "Is your back hurting a lot?"
Biting her lip, Natalie shook her head slightly at his husky voice. It was better than last time but still painful.
Brian pulled her closer and wrapped the blanket around them. After a pause, he murmured, "I'll figure something out."
It was a lingering effect of bearing their precious son, and he was half to blame. Her pain was his anguish.
When he heard her speak of her pain in the hot spring the night before, Brian had instantly forgiven her for everything, including her betrayals, schemes, and the neglect of their son.
All that remained was his heartache.
Drowsy and comforted by his embrace, Natalie unwittingly fell asleep in his arms. Feeling her breathing even out, Brian carefully extricated himself from her.
After a cold shower to clear his mind, he opened the door to find Benjamin sitting nearby, sipping coffee on the porch.
Their eyes met.
"She's got back pain," Brian said, his brow creasing as he slipped on his coat and approached Benjamin.
"Well, you sure are something," Benjamin chuckled in response.

Brian had his reasons, though.
With her wounded pride, Madelyn
would learn to keep her distance ve after overhearing him with Natalie.
Sensing Brian's hesitation, Benjamin asked in a low voice, "What's up?"
"Know any good gynecologists?" Brian sat beside Benjamin, his voice barely above a whisper.
Benjamin had been worried since he heard about Natalie's hemorrhage.
"Call me 'uncle', and I'll introduce
you,” he replied, a mischievous grih

Brian turned his head, giving Benjamin a cold look.
"Fine, my bad," Benjamin said, scratching his nose in embarrassment.
For a moment, it seemed like Brian was the uncle and Benjamin, the cheeky younger relative.
