Whispers Of Betrayal (Anastasia and Alastor)

Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Anastasia stared at Jason, utterly shocked. Marry him?

“Are you out of your mind?” Was he nuts, or was it her?

“I know I can’t offer you the kind of security you want because I’m not Alastor. I don’t have the same wealth or status, so none of you women is interested in me.” Jason looked down, disappointment written all over his face.

Anastasia’s heart clenched at his words, feeling a twinge of guilt for Jason’s despondent expression.

Felicia’s words must have really hit him hard.

“If I were the son of a billionaire like Colbert, that would be great,” Jason mumbled softly.

“You don’t need to be anyone’s son. Just being yourself, Jace, is more than enough.” Anastasia shook her head, not wanting Jason to entertain unrealistic notions. “Don’t worry about other people’s opinions. You’re good as you are, and you can lead a good life through your own hard work and efforts.”

“Since you understand that, why won’t you fully give up on Alastor and start fresh with me? I can put in the effort and work to make your life better too.” Jason’s eyes flared as he earnestly implored Anastasia.

Anastasia felt like she was walking into a trap. There was something off about Jason, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on

“You don’t get it…” Anastasia averted her gaze. “I have to go now.”

“Anastasia, you won’t even agree to this small request of mine? What if I fail to fulfill Grandma’s wish…” Jason’s eyes reddened.

Anastasia’s thoughts were tangled, and her fingers clenched tightly. “Let me think about it.”

Jason smiled. “Sure!”

Anastasia was taken aback. Was he doing this on purpose?

But Anastasia didn’t have time to ponder. She quickly walked away.

“Take this back and eat it. It’s Christmas Eve, so you’ve got to eat well.” Jason packed the steaming ravioli into a lunch box. and handed it to Anastasia.

Worried still, Jason also grabbed a carton of milk and two apples.

“What’s the significance of eating these on Christmas Eve?” Anastasia looked at the food in her arms, then at poor Snowball who was smothered underneath.

“It symbolizes peace and safety.” Jason ruffled Snowball’s head. ‘Grandma used to say that.”

Anastasia found Jason’s earnestness amusing. Jace remained the same, while she. Anastasia, had changed.

“I’m a bit concerned. Should I go back with you?” Jason seemed like he wanted to squeeze into the car with Anastasia.

“Reporters don’t have clear pictures of you yet, and you want to give them a chance?” Anastasia sounded a little irritated.

Jason huffed. *Exactly! Are these reporters all blind? They couldn’t even snap a clear photo of my face.”

Anastasia sighed and got into the car, rolling down the window. “Jace… Happy Christmas.”

Jason stood there, grinning at Anastasia, “Annie, Happy Christmas.”

As the car drove away, it grew smaller and smaller in the distance.

Anastasia watched Jason’s figure until her vision blurred.

What a good person Jace was, and yet because he met her…

Anastasia once thought that being saved by her was Jace’s good luck, only to later realize that it wasn’t…

Being saved by her was the unluckiest thing that happened in Jace’s life.

If she hadn’t met him, Jace wouldn’t have ended up in a juvenile detention center, nor would he be in this state where he was constantly criticized by others.

So, she was a catastrophe.

She was the source of misfortune, and living in this world was her sin.

o wonder even the heavens didn’t want her alive.

At Alastor’s house, when Anastasia returned here, the house was in pitch darkness.

She thought Alastor might have left, but upon entering, she found a mess, and Alastor was slouched on the couch.

“Trying to save on electricity?” Sensing the heavy atmosphere, Anastasia broke the silence.

Snowball meowed and retreated to its cozy cat bed.

Alastor ignored Anastasia and extended his hand toward Snowball. “Come here.”

In the past, even Alastor didn’t say a word, Snowball would’ve jumped right onto him, but now it refused to do so.

It nestled into a corner, maintaining its distance from Alastor.

“Even animals know when to avoid trouble,” Anastasia quipped sarcastically.

“Is that right?” Alastor stood up and glanced at the ravioli and apples that Anastasia had brought. “Heh, he’s just a man with no wealth and no abilities who attempts to find validation in these minor details.”

Alastor’s words dripped with sarcasm as he blatantly looked down on Jason. “Can he give you the life you want? Without me… Can you. Anastasia, get everything you desire from him?”

Anastasia gazed at Alastor, feeling a sharp pang in her chest.

He truly regarded her as a gold digger… |

“In this world, anyone can survive without anyone else. I thought that over these four years, I spoiled you to the point where you couldn’t live without me. I wondered if you could manage without me and if Felicia could handle you. Turns out, you’re doing just fine, Anastasia retorted back at Alastor.

“Enough with these words to provoke me, Anastasia. How much evilness is there within you that I’m still not aware of?” Alastor cornered Anastasia, his eyes bloodshot as he angrily punched the wall.

Anastasia furrowed her brows, uncertain about what had set Alastor off this time.

“Steven was just a little impatient. He only bumped into your car and Jason’s by accident. You nearly killed him over that?

you know Felicia was in his car? She’s pregnant!” Alastor seized Anastasia’s chin, his anger palpable.

Do

Anastasia frowned. Was Steven in an accident?

“There’s also Sienna. You certainly have a knack for making people disappear…” Alastor accused coldly.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
