Chapter 49
Chapter 49
Anastasia looked at Alastor in shock and clenched her fingers tightly.
Anastasia was astonished to hear the name coming from Alastor.
“Jace… This shows that Alastor has investigated me for the purpose of divorcing me,” she thought to herself.
“Women shouldn’t be too headstrong, Anastasia” Alastor picked up the glass, put it aside, and continued to say, “That is the time for us to be honest and upfront with each other. I don’t want you to come looking for me, pleading for help later.”
Alastor said indifferently and thought, “That is my reminder to you-take up the good opportunity and consider it an exchange of resources. Don’t wait until you are at your wit’s end and have lost the chance before you come begging for me for help. Anastasia.”
“For Felicia’s sake, you can really be that unscrupulous, Anastasia said ironically with a smirk on her face. Then, she said, “I’m curious. How does it feel to have a blitz marriage with a woman that you haven’t loved for four years? And to think of your first love every day. Isn’t that agonizing, Alastor?”
Anastasia felt the burning sensation in her throat and the aching pain in her chest.
“What about you?” Alastor stood by the bed, his tall figure oozing an air of unspeakable gloom and cool indifference. He checked WhatsApp messages on his phone, looked up at Anastasia, and said again, “We’ve been married for four years. Do you know how often you’ve called out Jace’s name in the middle of the night?”
Anastasia’s heart tightened, and she took a deep breath.
“And just then, didn’t you call out his name too?” Alastor turned around and prepared a fresh batch of oral suspension syrup for Anastasia again. “I’ve asked the doctor. That kind of herbal medicine won’t interfere, so, drink up,” he said reassuringly.
There was buzzing in Anastasia’s ears, and her chest was heaving up and down as her breathing became rapid. “Don’t you dare use that dirty mind of yours to make assumptions about others relationships!”
“The relationship between Jace and I is totally different from that of Alastor and Felicia. Coming from Alastor, he seems to have tarnished what Jace and I have. If it weren’t for Jace, I would have died six years ago,” Anastasia thought.
“Think about it carefully, Anastasia. All you have to do is recommend Felicia to Mr. Lexington, I can arrange an expert consultation for you.” Alastor negotiated and guessed that Anastasia would agree to his terms. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Grandma Penelope is sick and has been hospitalized. You knew of it earlier than I did. You just couldn’t wait to use that to threaten me, Alastor?” Anastasia sneered and concluded in her heart, “This is Alastor.”
In fact, she had known Alastor’s personality and character for a long time. He had always practiced that in his corporate business dealings. He would not reveal his true intentions until he knew with absolute certainty that he had the upper hand.
It was the same at that moment. He came prepared.
“It’s not a threat. I have given you a home and everything that you wanted. You should be content, Anastasia.” Alastor frowned and pondered, “I don’t think she and I have yet to reach that point where threats are called for, nor have the intention to go to that extent.”
Anastasia could only feel the pain in her chest, suffocating and choking her. She retaliated, “You have given me everything I wanted? Then, you should have told me from the beginning that you don’t love me and that you still have your first crush in mind. You should have let me prepare myself to leave at any point in time!”
“Instead of lying like that and giving me the fatal blow,” she continued silently.
“That was my fault, but it’s just that one matter. Besides, I have been tolerant of you enough.” Alastor raised his hand to feel Anastasia’s forehead.
Anastasia slapped the latter’s hand away and sneered, “Stop your pretense.”
“Take the medicine and think it over,” Alastor instructed Anastasia and turned to leave.
“It’s late. You have purposely come back to beg me, just for Felicia’s sake? Anastasia raised her head with bloodshot eyes and stubbornly resisted the urge to cry.
“The only thing I have not succeeded in attaining is Alastor’s love for me. I am just not loved by him. I’m about to die and have yet to experience what it feels like to be loved. It’s such a pity that I’ll die with regrets,” she thought.
Alastor didn’t explain. When he reached the door, he turned and simply said, “I guess you don’t want to see me.”
“It’s true. I don’t wish to see you,” Anastasia said as she lowered her head.
“What a good excuse,” she thought.
“Try having gastric pain, Anastasia.” Suddenly, Alastor complained of his pain while he stood at the door.
He sounded exhausted, more than usual.
Anastasia didn’t look at him. She held back for a long time to prevent tears from gushing out of her eyes.
Anastasia got off the bed and went into the kitchen without saying anything. She prepared a plate of pesto pasta for him. After this, when he had gastric pain after drinking, he would probably not have pesto pasta to eat anymore.
That night, Alastor didn’t leave but slept in a separate room from Anastasia.
The morning after, Alastor woke up and found that breakfast was ready on the table as usual. Anastasia had already left. “Please help me choose the tie color, Anastasia. Alastor stood by the side of the table and was silent for a long time. Habits could be terribly annoying.
