CHAPTER 62
CHAPTER 62
When she left. He went crazy
Chapter 62 A Brief Change of Heart
I paused for a moment, and I felt an indescribable sense of sadness welling up inside me.
I
The whole world knew that I loved him so much that there was no room for anyone else, but he always assumed that I liked someone else instead.
If it were in the past, I would have wished to take out my heart, show it, and tell him, “Christopher, look, your name is all over it.”
But now I can’t bring myself to do it.
Even if I were to remove it, I doubted that I would find his
s name on it–only a scene of devastation.
On the way back to Elissa’s house, Elissa looked at me with pity, hesitated to speak, and finally asked, “Why don’t you tell him that you also have a miscarriage?”
“It wouldn’t make any sense.”
With a pale and weak voice, I leaned against her shoulder, clutching my abdomen. “Even if he temporarily changes his mind, what about the future?”
I had done this too many times before. Each time we tried to reconcile, we ultimately broke apart.
The price this time was even more devastating.
“True.”
Elissa sighed, holding back her tears, saying, “Let him be with the person who kills his own child. When he finds out the truth, I really wonder how he’ll regret it.”
“He might not regret it.”
When I thought about how he had just questioned me coldly in front of Evelyn, I felt pitiful and pathetic.
Even if he knew, so what?
Between my baby and Evelyn’s baby, he would only choose the latter.
The scene on the street today taught me a profound lesson.
When I needed him to reach out and help me, he rushed to someone else.
He held her trembling, and he held her roaring in anger.
I suddenly felt that my eight years of feelings were worthless.
He didn’t love me.
Chapter 62 A Brief Change of Heart
Even if I had died in front of him, he probably would have stepped over my body and rushed to Evelyn’s side
The love was touching and moving.
Elissa grew more and more angry. “Hope, should we call the police?”
I shook my head gently, looking at the strange and colorful street scene outside. “Do you think anyone in Jacquar City can compete with Christopher now?”
Grandpa Valence had the ability to control Christopher in such a situation, but he had already died.
Even if we went to the police station, what would be the point? Firstly, it remains uncertain whether Evelyn could face charges. Christopher could easily turn the tables on me with his power.
Right now, I just wanted peace and to stay away from them.
Furthermore, the words Evelyn spoke before going insane today strengthened my belief that she was likely responsible for Grandpa Valence’s death
It’s not just me who won’t have a good ending.
The days were still long.
That night, I slept in a daze, the scenes of the day flashing through my mind like a movie.
When I woke up in the middle of the night, a cold sweat soaked my entire back, and my mind was unusually clear.
Does my baby feel hurt when it leaves?
It probably will.
He’s so tiny that he can’t even cry out in pain.
I curled up on the bed to ease the sore and painful squeeze on my heart.
The next day, I mustered up the energy to go to work for the last day.
Before getting off the car, Elissa held me back, whispering, “Don’t touch cold water, don’t tire yourself out, don’t expose yourself to drafts or cold air, get it?”
She spent the entire night researching what to watch out for after a miscarriage. Originally, she didn’t agree with me going to work today, but I just didn’t want to delay it. The sooner I could completely separate from Christopher, the
better.
“I get it. Don’t worry.” I replied helplessly.
I was puzzled to find the door unlocked when I entered the office. “Have you been in here?” I asked Connie, as I
remembered locking the door when I left last night.
Every time I had a project of competition in hand, I would lock the door to prevent design drawings from leaking.
Chapter 62 A Brief Change of Heart
Apart from the CEO, only Connie had the authority to enter.
She was working with her head down. After a moment of surprise, she smiled. “Yes, I think the weather is nice today, so I opened the window to let in some fresh air.”
“Alright, thank you.”
She had always been a thoughtful assistant.
By the end of the morning, I had completed and handled everything.
In the end, I realized that, despite working at the Valence Group for so many years, I couldn’t even fill a storage box with things to take with me.
Similar to my marriage with Christopher, our three–year relationship can end abruptly with only a few suitcases remaining.
“Hope.” At noon, Connie knocked on the door and came in, holding her phone with the screen still lit, looking somewhat conflicted and hesitant as she spoke, “So you know my idol?”
I knew she was talking about Cecil, so I smiled and said, “Don’t I tell you before that he and I were college classmates?”
She asked, “When does he return to the country?”
I answered, “Just recently.”
As I continued to tidy up, I stated, “I actually wanted to introduce you to him once these things have settled d
“Aren’t you both going to a concert together? Why don’t you invite me?”
“You’re overthinking it.”
I explained instinctively, “I had been standing up that day, and I happened to run into him there. “So we watched the concert together.”
“Is that so?”
Seeing her strange expression, I couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing. I just saw something online and think you two are close.”
She immediately asked with a smile, “When can you introduce us to each other?”
I replied, “Maybe in a while. He just started working at the MS Group not long ago, so he’s probably busy.” I was exhausted, both physically and mentally.
“Okay.”
She replied softly, then paused when she saw me packing up. “What are you doing?”
Chapter 62 A Brief
“Im resigning.
Change of Heart
I stopped what I was doing and looked at her. “But Evelyn probably won’t come to the company during this time. Even if she does, she’ll go to the CEO’s office, so no one will bother you. Don’t worry.”
“Aren’t you taking me with you?”
“I want to take a break for a while.”
I suppressed the slight pain in my abdomen and said softly, “I’ll find a job first, and then we’ll see.” Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“Okay, I understand.”
She suddenly interrupted me, somewhat stiffly, and walked out.
What’s gotten into her today?
Before I could think about it, the phone on the table suddenly rang.
[Johnson]
I was somewhat surprised that it was Johnson calling when I looked at the caller ID. “Hello, Johnson.”
During the years I lived at Beata’s house, Johnson and Beata had many arguments. After going to college, I never returned to live there.
To avoid his disdain, I either wait until he’s not at home or order gifts online for special occasions.
I never expected him to call me.
“Beata is sick.”
On the other end, Johnson then said, “We’re at Messlushi Hospital. Come over quickly.”
I hesitated for a moment. “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
When I arrived at the hospital, Johnson and Beata’s son, Ethan Dylan, were there. Beata was lying on the hospital bed.
Seeing me, Beata was somewhat surprised and glared at Johnson. “Don’t I tell you not to bother Hope? She has her
own life!”
“That’s not what you said.” Johnson voiced.
He sat in a chair, crossing his legs. “We’ve been taking care of her for so many years. Now that you’re sick, it’s only right for her to come and see you, isn’t it?”
“She slept on a balcony, and she doesn’t even dare to eat meat during mealtimes. How dare you say you’ve been taking care of her?”
“I didn’t let her die out there. She should be grateful!” Johnson shook his leg and jingled the keys on his waist.
Chapter 62 A Brief Change of Heart
I bit my lip, saying, “Beata, Johnson is right. I should come and see you.”
She shouted, “He’s talking nonsense.”
Beata, having overcome hus timidity, mocked angrily, “He asked you to live on the balcony for a few years in exchange for a betrothal gift of a full million and a monthly allowance sent regularly.” He was still so greedy, and he expected you to repay him. Is that balcony made of gold?!”
“Beata, don’t be ungrateful. Who did I call her for? For you, right? If she didn’t come, the hospital would kick you out tomorrow!
Johnson also became irritated, standing up and looking at me as if the situation had nothing to do with him. “It’s stomach cancer. The doctor said to choose between the sixty thousand dollars and a hundred–thousand–dollar treatment plan.”
