Chapter 157: The Rest, I’ll Do It for Her
Just as
I was about to peek inside, a force from within pulled the door shut, and a waiter swiftly obstructed my view.
The waiter asked, “Hello, are you
you a friend of Mr. Price?”
The sumame didn’t ring any bells. I shook my head. “No, I must
ust have walked into the wrong room.
As I turned to leave, I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone inside was watching me intently, a sensation that sent a shiver down my spine.
I glanced back, but all I saw was the now firmly closed door of the private room
Returning to our table, 1 found that Elissa had already ordered the dishes. “Take a look, is there anything you want to add?”
I shook my head. I’m not picky, go ahead and order.”
My mind, however, was elsewhere. The conversation I overheard still lingered in my thoughts– people I didn’t recognize, yet their discussion seemed errily relevant to my life.
It almost fit perfectly.
Yet I hadn’t heard of any of Christopher’s close friends with the surname Price.
Elissa noticed my distraction and leaned in to whisper, “What’s on your mind?”
“Nothing.” I replied with a faint smile. Now was not the time to delve into it.
Fortunately, the atmosphere in the room was lively and harmonious, and soon I shook off my complicated thoughts.
Keith Reed, the designer, stood up, raised his glass to me and Elissa, and said shyly, “Ms. Royston, Ms. Wilson, I am truly honored to join Elevatejoy, Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
Among the new employees, Keith was the only one who was a bit older. He had graduated nearly a decade ago, yet he hadn’t achieved much–not due to a lack of talent, but because he refused to compromise his unique aesthetic to suit market demands. Naturally, this meant few companies were willing to take a chance on him as an unproven designer.
As a result, Keith’s works had never been successfully launched, making it progressively harder for him to find employment. However, when I reviewed his portfolio attached to his resume, I was thoroughly impressed. Despite the risks, I felt compelled to give him a chance.
I raised my glass. “No need to be so formal. Everyone here earned their place at Elevate lay through their own merit. We are just as honored that you chose us.”
Elissa raised her glass as well, clinking it against mine and Keith’s. Precisely. Now, relax and enjoy the evening.”
Elissa’s words immediately lightened the mood, and the team began toasting us one by one.
After I had two drinks, Cecil, who was sitting on my other side, raised his glass with a warm smile and said gracefully, “Ms. Royston doesn’t handle alcohol too well, so I’ll take over and drink on her behalf
Elissa began to cheer, and Avery clapped enthusiastically. “Mr. Lewis, stepping up and being the hero!”
I wanted to refuse, but Cecil dismissed my concern. “You know your own tolerance, and aren’t you swamped with work lately? If you drink too much, how will you manage tomorrow?”
Reluctantly, I agreed, feeling a warmth of gratitude for Cecil’s thoughtfulness, “Alright, just take it easy yourself. Don’t overdo it.”
Cecil’s eyes shone with reassurance, and he responded softly, “Don’t worry, I know my limits.”
However, before Cecil could begin his impromptu sacrifice, my phone rang. It was Walter. Stepping out to answer, I greeted him, “Mr. Rogers, what’s happening?”
“Hope, your uncle has already received our complaint,” Walter said. His tone carried a trace of concern. “I just left the hospital and ran into him. He looked very upset and might cause trouble for your aunt.”

*Okay, got it. Thank you for the heads–up! 111 head over right away to check on her, I replied promptly.
Beata was at a delicate stage in her treatment, and her stomach was susceptible to emotional stress. A heated argument would be detrimental to Beata s recovery.
1 hung up the phone and returned to the private room, leaning close to Elissa’s ear to whisper, “Elissa, I need to leave. Something’s come up with my aunt, I have to go check on her.”
Elissa’s expression shifted to one of concern. “What happened? I’ll come with you.”
“It shouldn’t be anything serious.” I assured her, patting her shoulder. “You stay here and make sure everyone enjoys themselves. We don’t want to spoil
the mood.”
With that, I grabbed my bag, said goodbye to everyone, and headed for the exit.
Cecil quickly stood up as well. “You’ve had a few drinks, I’ll drive you.”
I nodded appreciatively. Alright.
I knew Cecil had attended the dinner mainly to accompany me, so naturally, he wouldn’t want to stay behind if I were leaving.
As we walked out, I asked, “Can you drive?”
Cecil chuckled, “I haven’t even had a drink.
Feeling relieved, I got into Cecil’s car.
When we arrived at the hospital, the ground–level parking lot of the inpatient department was full, so Cecil had to find a spot in the underground parking lot. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Worried about Beata, I got out of the car first. “Tll go up and check on her.”
Cecil nodded. I’ll come up as soon as I park
Upstairs, as soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I heard shouting.
Johnson was standing at the door of the hospital room, yelling, “Beata Dylan, if you have the guts, come out! You think you can just divorce me? And you’re suing me? Don’t think you can scare me with that lawyer your niece found…”
The door swung open. Quickening my pace, I saw that Beata looked somewhat better. “Beata…”
Beata’s tense expression softened slightly when she saw me. “Hope, why are you here?”
“I came to check on you,” I said.
Johnson turned his fury toward me. “Hope Rayston, do you know you can’t break up someone else’s marriage? Beata and I have been married for more than twenty years, and you insist on forcing her to divorce mer
Beata immediately clarified “This has nothing to do with Hope, I want to divorce you myself!”
“Isn’t she who found the lawyer? Isn’t she paying for your treatment? I’m telling you right now, if you want a divorce, fine, but like I said before, I want at least half of her property!” Johnson shamelessly demanded.
I looked at Johnson with disgust. We haven’t even resolved the last incident.”
He had colluded with Evelyn to drug me. The sheer despicability of it all was infuriating
“What incident?” Johnson flinched, his leg shaking. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Last time, you came to me yourself. What’s it got to do with
1 frowned. “Fine, then let’s make it clear: my property has nothing to do with you. Stop disrupting my aunt’s treatment!”
“I’m not leaving today. What are you going to do about it?” Johnson challenged me, embodying a shameless old rogue.

“Then stay here,” I replied coolly
Just as I was about to walk past him into the room, Johnson suddenly blurted out, panic evident in his voice. “Didn’t you want to ask me if it’s true that you’re not really a member of the Royston family?”
