Chapter 119 Can You Not Leave

Josephine grabbed his phone and shook her head.

Dr. Halliday saw her reaction and felt somewhat resentful. “Mrs. Alvarez! This is your body. Can’t you be more considerate to yourself?”

Josephine continued to shake her head, but the doctor did not understand what she was trying to convey

Josephine pressed his phone down, and the doctor appeared to have understood, “You don’t want me to tell him?”

Josephine nodded, signaling him to put down his phone.

The doctor hesitated for a moment before he sighed helplessly and put his phone away. “Okay. I won’t tell him since you don’t want me to ”

Seeing that he kept his phone, Josephine took out her phone and typed, “He did not cause this

wound.”

The doctor was slightly taken aback by what he had read. He laughed awkwardly and said, “It’s not him? Haha, I’m sorry. Let me help you change your dressings.”

Dr. Halliday opened his medical kit, took some antiseptic, and applied it to Josephine’s face. He also used the antiseptic on her knees. She was wearing a nightgown, which made it convenient to reveal her wound by simply lifting the dress above her knees.

The doctor was shocked. He asked, “How did you get this wound?”

Josephine shook her head, indicating that she did not want to tell.

The doctor did not pursue it. He carefully removed the gauze from her knees. Due to the blood and the severity of her wound, the gauze clung to her flesh.

“For heaven’s sake, Mrs. Alvarez, I can’t remove the gauze, or it will cause secondary damage. to your wounds. I’ll just remove the top layer and add a new layer. When scab forms on your wound, the gauze will fall off by itself,” Dr. Halliday said as he cut out the outer layer of the dressing.

Josephine nodded. She was already hurting when the doctor cut the gauze, so she felt relieved when she heard his words.

After changing her dressings, the doctor said, “I’ll drop by to check your wound tomorrow. Remember to keep your wound dry.”

Josephine nodded in gratitude.

After the doctor departed, Josephine found herself sitting alone on the couch, staring at her phone. Avery hadn’t sent her any messages since the incident. Josephine glanced at Avery’s

profile picture and felt the urge to inquire about her whereabouts, but she managed to resist the temptation.

Instead, she opened Avery’s Instagram profile and began scrolling through her recent posts. Avery had been quite active, sharing numerous updates over the past few days. The posts. mostly featured breathtaking scenery and occasional selfies. Josephine noticed that all these posts had the same caption, “Only visible to you.”

Josephine’s eyes reddened, and tears began welling up as she saw the caption. She tapped on the picture. It was Avery’s selfie by the beach with seagulls behind her. She was smiling brightly at the

camera, and the wind had tousled her hair. Josephine gently caressed the picture. Avery specifically took all these pictures for her to see. Avery did not message her, but she updated her social media for her.

As Josephine continued scrolling through the images, a sense of warmth and connection washed over her. It felt as though there was someone out there who genuinely cared about her and valued her existence. It reignited a sense of purpose in her life. Filled with gratitude, Josephine decided to express her appreciation by liking all of Avery’s posts, considering it her silent yet heartfelt response to their unspoken bond.

Avery, who was in a different part of the world, couldn’t help but smile as she saw the notifications of Josephine’s likes on her posts. She had become more carefree since discovering that the Green family was unaffected by her. Since Josephine refused to join her on her globe-trotting adventure, Avery decided to capture her experiences through photographs, believing it would serve as a way to share her world with Josephine from afar. When Lewis returned, he noticed her crying while holding her phone. He lowered his sight and stood a short distance away, studying her. Josephine did not see him.

“Why didn’t you lock the door?” Lewis’ voice sounded from above, startling Josephine. Her hand trembled, and the phone slipped from her grasp, falling to the ground.

Lewis saw her phone screen. It displayed their conversation thread, with an unfinished message that asked if he was coming back at night. Lewis saw those words, and his expression softened. He approached Josephine, bent down to pick up the phone, and returned it to her. He asked, “Missed me?”

Josephine tightened her grip on the phone, concealing her guilt, and nodded lightly. Having caught a glimpse of him earlier, Josephine felt a surge of courage that motivated her to initiate a conversation by sending him a message. She wondered if he had noticed.

“Why did you want me to come back?” he asked, patting her head. His voice was gentle.

Josephine gestured, “I’m hungry.”

Lewis lowered his gaze, watching her movements, and a smile appeared on his lips. “Hungry to the point of crying? What do you want to eat?”

Josephine gave it some thought and gestured, “I want porridge. The same one from this

morning.”

“No, you can’t have porridge every day. Your body can’t handle it. I’ll get you something else, okay?” Although he was asking, he did not give her a chance to respond.

He already took out his phone to call Conrad, asking him to bring food.

Josephine looked at him. He wasn’t short on money, but he had never once considered hiring a maid since they came here. With just the two of them residing in the large mansion, Josephine found herself taking on all the household chores single-handedly. From cooking and cleaning to doing the laundry, she assumed the responsibility of managing everything. Did he think she had too much spare time at home and wanted to keep her occupied with these tasks?

Josephine tugged at his sleeve, waiting for him to turn around and look at her. She then. gestured, “I want to visit Mrs. Jinkins. Is she awake?”

Lewis looked at her and remained silent.

Josephine’s chest tightened as she wondered if he was going back on his promise again.

After a while, she heard Lewis say, “She’s awake, but you are injured. How are you going to meet her like this? We’ll visit her once your wounds have healed.”

Josephine felt relieved when she heard this, and she nodded.

Lewis rubbed her head gently, giving her a conflicted look. It was not Josephine’s first time. seeing this look, but she never understood what it meant. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.

Lewis’ phone rang as they were waiting for the delivery. He took out his phone and saw Sierra’s name on the screen. Lewis was about to reject the call, but the call ended. In just a second, his phone rang again.

Lewis sighed and picked up the call. “What’s up?”

“Lewis, come pick me up. My shoot today is until midnight. It’s so annoying. I had to put on a thick layer of makeup. I’m worried that I’ll get acne the next day!” Sierra complained.

“They did not arrange lodging for you?”

“They did, but I don’t want to stay there. I want you to come pick me up! It’s not far anyway. I’ll be away for a shoot next month. Can you please spend more time with me now?” Sierra requested eagerly.

Lewis pondered for a while and said, “Send me your location.”

“Okay, love you!” Sierra hung up the phone happily. She immediately sent him the location.

In reality, she didn’t need Lewis to come and pick her up. It was simply that she overheard a few celebrities discussing her earlier, claiming that she had a wealthy older man supporting her behind the scenes. They assumed he was some shady old man, possibly in his seventies or eighties. She couldn’t tolerate such rumors, so she requested that Lewis come and pick her up.

Lewis turned to look at Josephine. Before he could say anything, Josephine stretched out and

grabbed his hand. She looked at him pitifully and gestured, “Can you not leave?”
