Chapter 126
Chapter 126
“It’s fine,” replied Benjamin.
Lorraine could tell that this man who had mistaken her for someone else was deeply regretful. She could tell that he must have had quite a history with the woman named Carol.
But Lorraine and Benjamin were just strangers to each other, and she was not the type of person to pry into other people’s affairs.
She turned around to leave after Benjamin had apologized.
Benjamin could not help but call out to Lorraine, “Ms. Somner?”
Lorraine stopped and turned around. “Is there something else, Mr. Benjamin?”
Her cold and distant reply reminded Benjamin once more that they were simply strangers and that she was not the Carol that he had been looking for.
“No, it’s nothing,” replied Benjamin.
Lorraine then turned around to leave once more without saying anything else.
Benjamin did not stop her again and instead just watched as she slowly left. He stared at her back as he muttered to himself. “She really looks like her!”
But their faces were different from one another.
Benjamin understood that Lorraine could never be Carol. He realized earlier that Lorraine did not have any makeup on and that her current face was her natural appearance.
Where could Carol have gone? He had been looking for her for a decade, but he had not managed to find even a single trace of her.
Benjamin had already accepted that everything was his fault. He only wished for her to return to his side.
One of the bodyguards called out to him, “Sir, let’s go.”
Benjamin continued to stare in the direction Lorraine had gone even after she had already returned to the market and was long out of his sight. He let out a sigh after a long while before responding to his bodyguard and returning to his car.
He had suddenly spotted a familiar figure while driving. Thinking that it was Carol, he immediately stepped on the brakes, stopped the car, got out, and chased after Lorraine.
But in the end, it was just a false alarm.
The feeling of joy was immediately followed by utter disappointment. Such a thing had happened countless times in the past ten years.
Benjamin did not blame anyone else but himself for what happened between him and Carol.
While Logan assumed that his arch–nemesis was a bachelor, Benjamin had, in fact, experienced love once. But he lost the woman he loved due to his own mistakes and had been single until his current age of 35 years old.
Lorraine had no idea that Benjamin was Logan’s rival as she had no idea what Logan’s true identity even was. She never bothered to learn about the CEOs of major corporations like Moore Corporation and Hathe Corporation as she believed that she would never cross paths with someone of such caliber.
She purchased a few eggs, tomatoes, vegetables, a cucumber, as well as half a pound of pork belly at the supermarket.
Lorraine then left the market and headed to the underground parking lot to look for her car. She quickly made her way to Glendale Grand Hotel to pick up Logan.
As Glendale was a bustling metropolis with quite heavy traffic, what should have been a few minutes‘ drive to the hotel became 20 minutes.
Logan had been waiting for her at the bus stop near the hotel.
Lorraine’s vision was sharp with her glasses on. She managed to locate Logan immediately from afar thanks to his tall figure and handsome face that made him stand out even through his dirt– stained clothes.
She parked her car by the roadside and rolled down her window to call out to him, “Logan!”
Logan smiled when he saw her. He then quickly ran over and got into the car.
“Did you wait for long? I was late because of the traffic,” said Lorraine. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
“Nope, I just got here as well.”
Logan brought two bottles of mineral water with him–one of which was half–empty while the other was still sealed.
He handed the unopened bottle to Lorraine after getting into the car. “Here, have some water. It’s really hot today, isn’t it?”
