Chapter 13 Insulted In Front Of The Guest
Sett and Nini, who had just taken a seat, were suddenly reprimanded by the Crossword family waitress.
Sett stopped his sister from standing up, but he did awkwardly stand up from his seat.It was impossible not to feel embarrassed when most of the guests were already seated and only the waitresses and the waiter were standing up to serve the guests.
"Why are you standing there? Have you no manners? You're supposed to greet your uncles and aunts. How disrespectful. The family head's decision to cut ties with your parents was the right one."
Madam Claire spoke in a taunting manner, and because her voice was quite loud, as though she was afraid that everyone wouldn't hear her, as the guests’ eyes were now on Sett and Nini. She had intentionally done this to embarrass them all the more.
"Waiter, give this nephew of mine the wine bottle. Now, now, Sett, be a good boy and serve us some wine to drink."
Sett could feel his sister's anxious grip on his shirt, and he led Nini to a seat in the back, knowing full well that his aunts and uncle would be upset if he allowed his younger sister to sit near them.It was still not time for him to completely make enemies out of them, so he had to endure.
With that in mind, Sett started serving his aunt and uncles with the tea like a servant. He didn't really mind doing it, and there was no shame in it.
"Oh, I didn't know that you were quite docile, my fat nephew. If your parents were half as obedient as you, the family head wouldn't have kicked you guys out of the Crossword family residence.Tsk, tsk.I almost forgot about the fact that I needed to remind you of something...Stop fantasizing about
reconciling with the family head and the elders and gaining a share of the family fortune! As I wouldn't allow it!"
Madam Claire then pointed her finger into Sett's forehead just as he finished serving her with the wine.
"You see, my pig of a nephew, you won't be getting a penny by coming here.I'm sure you have been scheming your way in.Heh, if your intention were clear, why did you come now of all times? What great timing!"
She sarcastically said while pouring the wine onto the floor, splattering it on the surface.Sett remained silent. It was impossible not to be mad.
However, he chose not to retaliate. He bowed for a moment before excusing himself, while Aunt Claire sneered at him, while he returned to the worried Nini, who was fidgeting around.
"Are you alright, brother? Nini is worried about you!"
Nini could tell that her brother was being bullied by her aunts and uncles. She wanted to be rude toward them and beat them up for bullying her brother!
"It's okay, Nini."
Sett took a deep breath for a second time.Sigh! It was not good for his health not to let out his pent-up emotions.
Sett lifted his head as he noticed a slight commotion.
"Oh, it's Charles and Elena's children. What took you so long to visit your grandmother? Have you forgotten that it's your grandfather's birthday?"
Just then, an elderly woman came forward. She looked graceful, even at her age.
One could only imagine how beautiful she was in her youth. She was being followed by Sett's cousin Xander and Amanda.
Nini's eyes lit up as she hugged the elderly woman.
"Grandma!" Nini let out an excited cry.
Yes, this elderly woman was Nini and Sett's grandmother, Louisiana Cane. But she preferred being called Grandma Lo.Sett hurriedly bowed to the elderly in a respectful manner.
"Come, come, why are you seated far from the main table? Alas, you didn't inform Grandma about your arrival.I would have prepared an extra table just for you siblings!"
Grandma Lo then scolded the attendants for letting Sett and Nini sit at the back, not knowing that it was Aunt Clair.
The attendants could only leave helplessly.
When Xander saw how enthusiastic Grandma Lo was about Sett and Nini, his face turned ugly.He was feeling dissatisfied.
"Grandma Lo, I think these siblings are just here for the family wealth. They're really not here for the grandfather's celebration. Also, Grandma Lo, my friend, told me that Sett had been borrowing money from the Louise family, using her wife's name! With that personality, his destined to not achieve anything!" Xander smirked.
He lifted his chin in a proud manner, as he disdainfully said that, on the other hand, Amanda was snickering.
"what would people think of our Crossword family if they learned that a Crossword descendant worked at a small store? Wouldn't that bring our family name into disgrace? Heh, my friend also informed me
he was kicked out of his part-time job! I could already imagine the other family belittling us! He's bringing the family reputation down the gutter!" Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Amanda sneered as she was saying that. She wasn't holding back at all when it came to insulting Sett.
Grandma Lo, who was cheerful a moment ago, had her expression slowly turn dark. She didn't think her grandson would do such a thing.
Borrowing money from the Louise family? Wouldn't people start thinking that the Crossword family had become so poor that they couldn't provide for their descendants then? Her good impression of the siblings plummeted down the drain.
"Is it true what Xander and Amanda said?"
Grandma Lo stated coldly. It was clear she was extremely mad.
"Yes." Sett could only admit, that it was true that he was kicked out of the convenience store.
However...
"I'll explain-"
Before, Sett couldn't explain himself that it had nothing to do with the Louise family. He was interrupted.
"Explain? There's no need, hmmph! The children of my eldest son are a total disappointment. You've shamed the family reputation! After your grandfather's birthday, I don't want to see your faces."
Grandma Lo, foamingly stated, walked away, ignoring Sett, and even when Nini tried to come near her, she was given the cold shoulder by Grandma Lo.
"Are you happy now, Xander?"
Sett was pissed off as he dangerously glared at his cousins while patting his Nini's back in comfort. He felt worried for Nini as she was always close to Grandma Lo.
Nini was Grandma Lo's favorite up until now.So, Sett could understand how her sister felt after being treated that way by her beloved grandma.
