Uncovering My Wife's Secrets

Chapter 88

Chapter 88 Jonathan Woods To Reveal His Identity

The conversation between the two older men went like this.

Dariel Randall, 79, said, “I know that woman back there. She’s the daughter of darling Anna’s wicked uncle, Kent Barton.”

Cash Cappell, 77, replied, “We know that man too. Isn’t he Julian Parks’s half-brother, Alexander Parks? Does he really think we’re isolated from the rest of the world? Even after living in the mountains for many years, we are still very much in touch. I’ve been watching the news every day.”

“That’s right. Anna and that piece of trash from the Quigley family didn’t even make the news when they were dating back then. We thought that our darling Anna was such an outstanding young woman that whoever fell for her would definitely dote on her. Regrettably, we didn’t pay much attention to the affair. It turned out he’s a scumbag. A no good son-of-a-gun! Fortunately, they broke up in the end,” said Dariel.

“Why did Alexander come to the countryside to ask about Anna? Instead, did he come here for Joseph Quigley, that old geezer?” Cash wondered out loud.

Dariel’s face darkened. “I have to call darling Anna and ask if she has been exposed unwittingly.”

“Don’t you know how smart Anna is? If she was exposed, would she have come to our godforsaken countryside? Don’t give yourself away by calling. We, old fogeys, should not cause trouble for her one way or another. Just stay put and keep your cool, for crying out loud. Anna will definitely call us when it’s convenient for her,” Cash grumbled.

“All right,” Dariel stared at the phone and put it back into the cradle. Needless to say, he missed Anna terribly. Both carried their buckets and fishing rods back into the house.

At this moment, Joseph Quigley walked over joyfully. “Hey, not bad. You two old farts caught a fish, after all.” “We’re done fishing for the day. Go and arrange for the kitchen to cook the fish for us,” Dariel said.

Joseph laughed aloud. Then he carried the bucket and mumbled away as he looked for a servant to prepare the dish.

Dariel suddenly thought of something and said to Joseph knowingly, “It has been chaotic here of late. Those people will probably turn the entire Chanaea over looking for you. Make sure to stay put in the house and don’t roam around town unnecessarily.”

“You guys should stay put too.” Joseph laughed and tasked someone to cook the fish.

“So be it. I’ll practice two more fist-fighting rounds every day,” Dariel muttered.

Cash broke into a hearty laughter. “My time is even easier to pass. I’ll throw some clay to make a pot every day. Hahaha, I’ll make money and pass the time.”

Meanwhile, at Jadeborough.

Jonathan Woods was jet-lagged.

He could not sleep before midnight and finally fell asleep in the second half of the night.

Just as he was sound asleep, his cell phone rang like crazy.

It was Ben Chase, director of the Metropolis Hospital.

Ben greeted Jonathan politely and asked if he was used to his everyday life after returning to the country. Before the latter could reply, Ben apologized for calling due to an urgent matter.

It turned out that he had a critical case on hand. The hospital’s expert team examined the patient but could not resolve the issue. Therefore, he decided to enlist Jonathan’s help.

Jonathan was angry to have been woken up from his hard-earned sleep. He shouted into the phone, “What if I didn’t come back? Does that mean no one will care about those cases? Do all the patients have to die then?”

“Jonathan, that’s not what I meant. If you hadn’t come back, we couldn’t help it if we are unable to treat the patients. We wouldn’t dare to trouble the elder Quigley either! It was a coincidence that you’ve returned. I think she’s not meant to die,” Ben replied politely.

He was 49 years old, two years younger than Jonathan.

The two men had met a few times before whenever Jonathan returned to visit the elder Quigley.

The elder Quigley had wanted Jonathan to take over the Metropolis Hospital and suggested that the latter meet with Ben.

After chatting for a while, Jonathan’s foul mood dissipated. “Ben, I didn’t mean to shout at you. I’m jet- lagged and just fell asleep,” he apologized,

“I understand totally. I was too anxious and didn’t notice the time,” Ben said.

Jonathan looked at the time on his wrist. It was already eleven in the morning.

He could not blame Ben for calling him.

“I’ll come over and take a look later,” Jonathan said.

“All right. Good.” Ben was relieved to hear that Jonathan would go over.

The latter was just in time for lunch after washing up.

Annalise smiled and asked, “Are you done sleeping, bro? Or are you filling your stomach first before going back to bed?”

“Sigh, No more sleep for me. I have something to do at the hospital later. Are you busy?” Jonathan asked. “I’m not busy!”

“That’s good. Ben said that there was a difficult case with a patient. You can come along to take a look,” Jonathan suggested.

“Okay.”

“I’ll go take a look too,” Julian Parks said.

After lunch, the trio rushed to the Metropolis Hospital and went straight to Ben.

Jonathan and Annalise reviewed the reports together and discussed the patient’s condition.

“This is not an easy operation. She’s old and her body’s recovery ability is not good. She might die if the operation didn’t go well,” said Jonathan.

“She is old Madam Blake. It’s best if she can be cured. Otherwise, it will affect the reputation of Metropolis Hospital Should we ask the elder Quigley to do it personally if all else fails?” Ben said awkwardly.

“This matter is equally tricky and risky even if Master Quigley takes action personally. It will be best to reject the case if you’re afraid of affecting the hospital’s reputation,” replied Jonathan. If it was difficult for him and Annalise to handle the case, it would be equally difficult for his mentor to take it.

This was because Annalise’s medical skills were as good as her mentor’s. The only advantage that Master Quigley had over her was his practical experience over the years. Annalise might not have encountered as many unique situations.

“The Blake family did express that as long as we treat the old lady with all our might, they would leave it to fate for the outcome,” Ben sighed.

The Blake family had already given their consent. The Metropolis Hospital was the best in Jadeborough. Its reputation would definitely plummet if it did not take on the case.

“In that case, let’s accept it and arrange for surgery tomorrow,” said Jonathan.

“All right. Will do,” Ben immediately agreed.

He was more at ease now that Jonathan had agreed to take the case. Ultimately, fate would take over; if the old lady could not be cured, so be it.

“By the way, can I arrange for others to observe and learn on the spot for tomorrow’s surgery?” asked Ben.

The elder Quigley had taught Ben many things since the latter transferred the hospital to him. The most important one was that doctors had to learn from each other and improve together. It was taboo to keep

secrets.

Therefore, in the past ten years, Ben would arrange for other doctors with certain shortcomings to observe and learn whenever a doctor with better skills performed surgeries.

“Not too many, though. No more than five observers other than the surgical assistants,” Jonathan said.

“All right,” Ben replied immediately.

“This is Anna, who will join me in the operating theater tomorrow,” Jonathan said.

Ben nodded again.

Then Jonathan reminded Ben, “Don’t let it slip in front of outsiders. Remember, I’m Dr. Lawrence.”

Before Ben could respond, Jonathan changed his mind and said, “Forget it. Let’s make it public. Please announce that Jonathan Woods will operate on old Madam Blake tomorrow at two in the afternoon.”
