Chapter 86 Getting Closer To The Truth
“Hello, Mr. Lawrence. Come, let’s eat. Don’t stand on ceremony,” Alexander put on his signature smile as always.
So lan Lawrence was from Princeville after all. Alexander knew it instinctively. How could such a young man have anything to do with Johnathan Woods?
Everyone ate and chatted casually.
Annalise talked to Jonathan about Princeville.
“Bro, do you still remember fishing in the dry pond before the New Year? You followed the pond owner, caught dozens of pounds of small fish two fingers wide, and insisted I make dried fish out of them. I almost went crazy removing the fish’s intestines one by one.”
“Haha, complain about the chore. I didn’t see you eating any less.”
“Come on. No one ate as much as you! There was another year when you returned from a trip to the northeast and insisted on having pickled cabbage. I didn’t know how to make it. You made me learn and then ate two large jars of pickled cabbage for the better part of the year.”
“Haha, it’s our family’s special skill! Just pickle some cabbage when in need. It’s like having food at home for our peace of mind.”
The two of them chatted and laughed.
Julian listened with interest, whereas Alexander was speechless.
“Annalise was so stupid. She didn’t care about the occasion or location when she spoke,” Alexander thought. “What kind of place did she think this was? It’s the Parks residence in Jadeborough, for crying out loud!”
It was a blessing that she had married into the Parks family. She did not even bother to restrain herself after that. Who wanted to hear about the nonsense in her hometown?
Was she afraid that others would not know about her humble background?
Julian thought his wife was brilliant, meticulous, and knew how to lead the
way.
Who would associate a legendary figure like Jonathan Woods with dried fish and pickled cabbage from the northeast?
Alexander finished half of his meal and took leave.
Annalise and Julian looked at each other and smiled after Alexander left.
“How was it?” Layla Ziegler asked Alexander when the latter returned to the villa.
“It’s Annalise’s relative from the countryside. She calls him brother. They’re probably close friends like siblings,” Alexander replied with relief.
“As long as it’s not Jonathan Woods,” said Layla.
“No.” Alexander was very sure.
How could a legendary figure like Jonathan Woods fish out dozens of pounds of small fish from someone else’s pond?
He would not have to fish them out personally if he wanted to eat dried fish.
“That’s good.” Layla was relieved by her son’s confidence.
Alexander looked at the time and left for Horington with Abigail.
Abigail invited a few friends from the hospital for a meal tomorrow. She figured it would be more fruitful to have a meal with her doctor friends than to ask around. Someone might know an older man with outstanding medical skills through their chitchatting.
It was the following day.
At Chinoiserie Restaurant, Horington’s most famous restaurant.
Abigail held Alexander’s arm and introduced him to a few doctor friends in a high-profile manner.
Alexander was handsome, to begin with, and coupled with his status as the young master of the wealthiest family in Jadeborough, he immediately attracted endless admiration from everyone.
“Abbie, you have such good taste! You’re so lucky! You’re so young, but you’re already reaching the peak of your life. You’re going to live in Jadeborough in the future, right? Don’t forget to support us old colleagues!” Everyone kept praising Abigail for her catch.
“You must have rescued the galaxy in your previous life, Abbie, for finding such a good husband.”
“Hello, Mr. Parks. I’m Dr. Carling from the Horington Hospital of Traditional Medicine. Nice to meet you.” Abigail had invited mostly young female doctors. There were only a few male doctors and older female doctors.
Everyone was filled with envy after they sat down. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Alexander put on his signature smile and looked pleasant. However, he hated Abigail even more deep down in his heart.
This woman actually used him to satisfy her vanity.
Abigail could sense that Alexander was not in a good mood. She immediately got to the point. “Haha, love is all about fate. When your fate arrives, you will meet your ideal husband. By the way, has anyone heard of the elder Quigley?”
“Orion Quigley, the medical expert?” someone asked.
“Yeah!” Abigail replied immediately.
“Haha, everyone who studies medicine knows about Master Quigley. It’s just that he doesn’t know about us,” someone quipped.
“That’s right. Master Quigley’s tongue diagnosis is a compulsory course!”
“What I mean is, have you heard where the elder Quigley went after he retired from the hospital?” said Abigail.
“I heard that he went overseas to settle down after leaving Jadeborough,” someone said.
“Yeah, that’s what I heard too.”
“I heard that the elder Quigley lives in seclusion in the countryside. He stopped being a doctor and raised many chickens and ducks.”
“Which countryside?” Alexander asked.
Could it be that the elder Quigley was really in Horington?
“I don’t know!”
Abigail asked again, “Do you know anyone who has seen Jonathan Woods?”
“Elder Quigley’s eldest disciple? How strange! Jonathan Woods was rumored to have returned to the country during this period. I even searched online and found the elder Quigley’s photos from more than a decade ago, but not a trace of Jonathan Woods.”
“What’s so strange about that? Jonathan Woods has been studying Western medicine overseas and hasn’t returned home. Of course, there are no photos.”
“More importantly, we cannot find his photos overseas either!”
“He might not go by that name overseas, okay? We can’t even find his file. How are we going to find his photo?”
“True indeed.”
Abigail looked at Alexander immediately while listening to the discussion. Then she said, “In that case, have you heard of anyone being friends or classmates with Jonathan Woods? Uncle Wallace, I remember that you graduated from Jadeborough Medical University. Were you schoolmates with Jonathan Woods back then?” “I heard he’s an alumnus, but I’ve never paid attention to him. Jonathan Woods became famous ten years ago. I graduated more than 20 years ago.”
Abigali looked at Alexander helplessly.
The latter continued to greet everyone with his signature smile. “We’re just asking around. Come, everyone, let’s eat.”
From the looks of it, Alexander knew he would not be able to find out anything. He also did not know if he would find anything from going to the countryside where Annalise stayed.
He heard a doctor mention that the elder Quigley was rumored to be raising chickens and ducks in the countryside. He suddenly thought of what Annalise said about making dried fish. Was it possible that she and the elder Quigley had met in the countryside?
For example, the village where Annalise lived happened to be the same village where the elder Quigley lived in seclusion.
It could be that the elder Quigley suddenly fell due to heatstroke or coronary heart disease, and Annalise helped him up coincidentally. The elder Quigley might have given her a jar of energizing pills to thank her. For some strange reason, the more Alexander thought about it, the more he felt that his hypothesis was reasonable.
Alexander and Abigail bid farewell to the latter’s doctor friends when they finished their meal.
Then he said to Abigail, “Let’s go and take a look at the countryside where Annalise lives.”
Perhaps something would come out of it.
Even if he could not find Joseph Quigley, Alexander wanted to go to the village where Annalise lived to find out how a person who had never gone to school could write so beautifully.
