Chapter 538
Yvette's eyes narrowed, and she instantly tensed up. "What did you say? Who are you?"
The man didn't answer directly but instead mocked her before hanging up the phone. "Your son has been missing for a night, and you didn't even notice. How careless of you." Missing for a night?
Yvette immediately thought of Noah. She quickly dialed his number.
At Dewberry Manor, Noah had just finished the breakfast the nanny had prepared when he finally received a call from Yvette. Curious, he asked, "Mom, did you find Mr. Xavier?" That single word, "Mom", caused Yvette's tightly wound nerves to relax instantly.
She didn't consider the possibility that the person hadn't taken Noah, but rather Zachary, who had been staying at the Shaw residence.
"Noah, are you safe at home?"Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
"Yeah, everything's okay. Why? What's going on?" Noah asked.
"Nothing. I'm glad you're okay. Just make sure you stay inside and don't go out. Stay close to Kiki," Yvette instructed.
She thought it was just a scam call and didn't dwell on it further.
...
Zachary woke up in an abandoned factory.
Looking around, he noted that he was in an old, deserted factory with no one in sight, except for a few men patrolling near the entrance.
When he overheard one of them making a phone call to Yvette, it dawned on him that he had been kidnapped. It wasn't related to yesterday's incident of him pulling someone's pants down. Frowning slightly, Zachary shouted, "I need to go to the washroom."
Upon hearing his voice, one of the men outside pushed the door open. A scarred man, Derek Blade, came in. "What are you shouting for? Just piss your pants if you have to," he snapped impatiently. From his voice, Zachary recognized him as the person who had called Yvette.
"I'll be making a mess if I pee with my pants on And in this cold weather, freeze to death. If I die how will you get your ransom money Zachary reminded him, trying to gauge the kidnappers'
motives for kidnapping him.
Seeing that Zachary was just a child, Derek let his guard down and sneered. "Who said anything about ransom? Is your mommy that rich?"
So it wasn't about ransom.
"My mom doesn't have much
money, but my dad does," Zachary replied, his big eyes staring intently at the man. "If you're not after money, then what are you after? I've seen kidnappers on TV; they always want money."
Derek laughed heartily and patted Zachary on the shoulder. "Kid, don't blame me. Your mom offended someone, so I was hired to teach her a lesson." Zachary was puzzled when he heard that.
"But my mom is really nice. Who did she offend?"
"Are you trying to trick me into telling you?" Derek looked at him suspiciously, even though he was confident that a four-year-old wouldn't do something like that. Zachary quickly played dumb when he realized his mistake. "Mister, what do you mean by 'trick you"?"
Derek felt reassured by Zachary's innocent response and let his guard down. "Didn't you say you needed to go to the washroom? Come on, I'll take you out."
Although he didn't see any harm in talking to a child, Derek decided it was better not to reveal too much that could be unfavorable to his
employer. After taking Zach net
outside to use the washroom, he brought him back inside and tied him up again.
After waiting for a long time without receiving a call from Yvette, Derek wondered out loud, "Does this woman not care if her son dies?"
His boss had ordered him to teach Yvette a lesson, but if she didn't care about her child, how was he supposed to do that?
He glanced back at the factory, looking at the innocent and adorable boy, then double-checked the child's photo. After confirming they hadn't made a mistake, he continued to wait.
"Mister, I'm so bored. Can I play with your phone?" Zachary asked. His smartwatch had been taken by Derek the night before.
