Chapter 530
The memories that enveloped Jeremiah made him feel increasingly resentful. "I did attend the banquet, but I don't know where Xav went. Are you still looking for him this late?" "Yes. Since you don't know where he is, I'll head back."
Maybe the past cast a certain light on Jeremiah, making Yvette see him through a filter, but she never thought of him as bad.
Jeremiah stepped forward before Yvette was about to get into her car. "I'll go with you to find him," he offered.
"It's alright. You should go back to rest." Yvette immediately refused. She already felt guilty about waking him up this late.
"No, I can't let you go looking for him alone this late. I wouldn't be at ease." Before Yvette could say anything else, Jeremiah had already sat in the driver's seat. "Let's go. I'll drive." Seeing this, Yvette couldn't refuse any further. She nodded and said, "Alright."
Jeremiah started the car and drove toward the city center. It had been a long time since the two of them had been alone together like this.
"Did he go missing during the banquet?"
"No, it was after the banquet."
Jeremiah took out his phone. "I'll have someone check the nearby surveillance footage."
"There's no need; I've already checked. But there's a section of the road that's a blind spot for the cameras. He disappeared in that area," Yvette explained.
"Then let's have someone check which vehicles and people passed through that blind spot," Jeremiah suggested.
"Alright."
Jeremiah proceeded to make a call, instructing his subordinates to search for Xavier's whereabouts throughout the night.
When they reached the area near the hotel's entrance, Jeremiah slowed down the car to make it easier for them to look around.
Tirion wasn't that big, but it wasn't small either; finding someone there was like looking for a needle in a haystack.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
Yvette hadn't expected Jeremiah's search to yield anything, but not long after, he received a call. He pulled the car over, his expression turning serious. Yvette asked, "Did they find him?"
"Yvvy, let's stop looking." Jeremiah suddenly said.
Yvette felt puzzled. "Why?"
"I assure you, he's fine. Some things are better left unknown." Jeremiah turned off his phone.
But the more he acted like that, the more Yvette wanted to know why.
"Please tell me. If you keep hiding it, I might not be able to sleep all night."
Jeremiah then turned his phone back on and handed it to her. When Yvette saw the photo on his phone, her face went pale.
It was a photo of Daphne supporting a drunk Xavier into a hotel.
Yvette felt a mix of emotions. She couldn't help but find herself particularly foolish for being
soft-hearted about the grandiosen e
words he'd spouted before
gone to the hotel and for going to find him in the middle of the night when he hadn't returned
"After I came back, I looked into your relationship with him. I knew he hadn't treated you well in the past years, but I didn't expect that he would still..." Jeremiah clenched his fists.
Yvette pushed aside her frustration and looked at the face identical to Xavier's. "It's my fault. I thought that he had changed since he has amnesia." "Hasn't Xav already recovered his memories?" Jeremiah asked.
Yvette stared at him in disbelief. "What?"
"I heard from Xav's attending physician that he recovered most of his memories last month. Didn't he tell you?"
Jeremiah's words struck Yvette like a thunderbolt, leaving her stunned.
Her mind was filled with his recent behavior and the vow she had made him take last night. He'd promised that he wouldn't harm the children in any way if he recovered his memory.
But it turned out he had already recovered his memory. And yet, he was still deceiving her, playing her for a fool!
