Chapter 494
Yvette was somewhat worried. If she took Noah to Lane Mansion, she wasn't sure if some of the Lanes might notice something. Shannon, for one, had always kept an eye on Zachary.
She was about to refuse, but Noah agreed in a flash. "Sure, Mr. Xavier! If you're taking me home now, does that mean you're going to be my stepdad?" Noah's big, round eyes were filled with curiosity. The word "stepdad" made Xavier's expression shift.
Noah intentionally shouted, "My stepdad, let's go home!"
Yvette nearly spat out the milk she was drinking. "Noah, don't call him that," she scolded.
Noah toned down his mischievous behavior. "Mom, let's go with Mr. Xavier. I'm so bored staying at home every day. The doctor also said I should go out more to take my mind off things. Then, it won't hurt as much." Whenever Noah mentioned his illness, Yvette could never refuse him. "Alright."
She thought that if Xavier could always remain this way, she would inevitably have to reveal the children's true parentage to him.
As she thought of that, there was nothing to fear anymore.
After changing their clothes, the three of them came out of the manor.
Luther, who'd come to pick them up, was surprised.
Last time, when he'd come over to assert his authority, he hadn't paid attention to Noah. But now he saw how much Noah resembled Xavier when he was a child.
Luther had the driver open the car door.
After the three of them got in, he found it hard to calm his emotions.
He kept thinking about how Shannon had been secretly investigating something lately. Could it be related to Noah?
Luther clutched his phone. That morning, Lynn had sent him a message saying that she wanted to come home.
Luther resolved to bring her back, no matter what.
In the car, Noah felt much better than he had before. As he watched the scenery pass by, he secretly planned his revenge. He was determined to teach a lesson to those who had bullied Yvette at Lane Mansion. Yvette had no idea what Noah was thinking, nor did she want to tell him about her complicated ties to the Lanes.
After all, he was different from
Zachary. He was a carefree child
unable to grasp the complexities of
lationships. He even thought
she was dating Xavier.
An hour later, they arrived at Lane Mansion. Many luxury cars were parked outside. It was the first day of the festival, and many relatives had come to pay their respects.
This was one of the reasons Yvette had been reluctant to come. If she showed up, it would only invite ridicule.
Those relatives had arrived earlier and were all inside the main hall.
Noah held Yvette's hand as they entered. "Mom, Mr. Xavier's house is so big."
Xavier, meanwhile, was escorted inside by a maid. They had to see Clifford in the main hall first. Knowing that Yvette disliked dealing with the relatives, Xavier said, "Wait for me outside."
Yvette agreed and then pulled Noah to a halt. "Noah, Mr. Xavier is going to see his grandpa, so we'll stay out here."
Noah nodded. "Okay."
Since Xavier hadn't returned last night, he couldn't avoid being scolded by Clifford. The moment he entered the hall, the reprimands began.
Around them, people watched with interest.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
Times had changed; Xavier was blind now, and no one feared him anymore. They had all forgotten what had happened after the last engagement party. After all, who would have thought that a blind man could wield such power over them?
"Where's Yvette?"
"She's outside with a child."
"A child? Whose?"
"Who knows? The kid looks about four years old and kind of resembles Xavier."
"The Lanes' great-grandson? No way!"
There was a hushed conversation about it among the crowd.
