Chapter 422
Chapter 422
The issue at hand was that the children’s room on that floor was heavily guarded. Without prior arrangements with Aiden and Alex, her chances of sneaking in were practically slim to none.
She shrugged it off, deciding to head over and assess the situation herself. Who knew? Maybe Lady Luck would favor her this time.
With bated breath, she cautiously approached the children’s room.
Just as she had suspected, there were several guards patrolling the area.
“One, two, three…”
Just the left staircase alone had three guards. They were all burly and imposing. There was no way she could muscle her way through them.
Just as Clara was about to lose hope, she spotted a small figure emerging from the room.
It was Aiden. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
Her eyes lit up the moment they fell on the boy.
“What are you up to, young master?” A guard asked hurriedly upon spotting him. After all, the Melendez family had increased security for the boys following the recent kidnapping incident.
“I’m going to see Granny.” Aiden replied in his high-pitched voice. “Don’t worry, I won’t wander off.”
“Should I call your Granny and have her come pick you up?” The guard suggested with a smile.
“No need. It’s not that far and Granny has been having leg pains recently. I don’t want to trouble her.”
As the guard hesitated, Aiden took off.
“Young master, come back here!” The guard called out while rushing after him.
Aiden waved him off. “Look, I’m really going to Granny. Stop following me! And keep your voice down; you might wake her up!”
The guard immediately fell silent.
Once Aiden left, Clara took this as her cue to make her exit too.
She noticed that Aiden was indeed heading towards Sophia’s place and figured he would return soon enough.
All she had to do was wait here for him to return.
The night wind was particularly chilly. The cold air nipped at her skin and left a stinging sensation behind.
Clara did not dress adequately for the weather. She shivered slightly as she stood in the darkness.
Just as Clara was rubbing her hands together for warmth, she heard a small voice call out to her from behind.
“Mommy… is that you?”
Clara froze, and she slowly turned around.
She was momentarily stunned before rushing forward to hug him. “My baby! My precious boy! I’ve missed you so much!”
Aiden, too, hugged Clara tightly and, for the first time, kissed her on the cheek. “Mommy! I missed you too! Where have you been all this time? Alex and I have been missing you every day.”
Clara’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’m sorry, my baby. I’m so sorry.”
Aiden wiped her tears. “Don’t cry, Mommy. You’re back now. You can stay with Alex and me forever.”
Upon hearing this, Clara broke down, and her tears began flowing freely. “I’m sorry… I’m really sorry. I might have to leave for a while.”
“Why?” Aiden’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Did you really fall in love with another man? Granny told me you ran away with another man and would never come back. Is that true?”
