Nicholas remained quiet without saying a word. He turned his back toward me, and his usually straight and proud back was now hunched over like a small mountain.

He took out his cigarettes. He rarely smoked, and it took him two tries before he managed to successfully light up his cigarette. Smoke began to swil in the air around him.

I couldn't help but cough from the stench. If it weren't for the unbearable pain taking over my body, I would have thought that the surreal situation before me was nothing but a dream. Nicholas turned around to look at me. His dark eyes burned with hatred as he put out the cigarette with his bare hands. It was as if he couldn't feel any pain as he said calmly, "That's impossible." He looked down and did a sweep of my body. Unable to look any longer, he carried me to the showers with a frown.

The messy bed was no longer sleepable. After what felt like an eternity where I could die at any given moment, we managed to change rooms, and I was finally able to lay down and fall asleep. Nicholas turned to me and said, "Your body is weak, so you shouldn't attend Pete's wedding tomorrow. I'll help you give him your regards."

I opened my eyes and saw Nicholas looking sharply at a corner of the room in the dark. So, that was what he wanted to tell me all along.

I closed my eyes, feeling too exhausted to even answer him.

Early the next morning, Claudia came knocking on our door. She wore a beautiful pink dress as she grabbed Nicholas by his sleeves, pulling him out of the hotel room.

Once they left, it took me some time to get up. My whole body felt weak, and my head felt like it was spinning

I laid my head on the headrest to steady myself before slowly getting up and using the wall as support. I slowly walked to the bathroom and began washing myself.

No matter what, I had to attend Pete's wedding. The trip abroad would not be in vain if it meant that I could see him, even if I could only see him from afar.NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

I gave Yasmine a call, asking her to come and pick me up.

After a while, the doorbell rang. When I went to open the door, I was shocked to see that it wasn't Yasmine by the door, but rather Pete, the groom-to-be! Before I could come to my senses, Pete pushed open the door and squeezed his way into the room. "Let me hide at your place for a second."

The second the door closed, I felt like my heart had skipped a beat. He bent over as he placed his hands on his knees, while he gasped for breath. Looking at him, he didn't look like he was prepared for a grand wedding. It looked more like he was prepared to flee from the wedding

"Are you crazy? Shouldn't you be at the wedding greeting your guests? Why did you come all the way here?

I didn't even need to think about how

grand Pete's wedding would be. There would definitely be several guests and media attending. Only such @grand and lavish wedding would suit his flamboyant

personality.

He looked up and gave me a bitter smile. "Nicholas told me you won't be attending today. So, I-I didn't think before secretly making my way here. Otherwise, I wouldn't know when would be the next time I would be able to see you!" I looked at him and met his bright eyes.

He continued, "Ari, why don't I just don't get married? Why don't I bring you away

"What did you say?"

with me?"

I hadn't gotten over the shock that he had just run away from his wedding, yet he had dropped another bombshell on me.

Pete thought I hadn't heard him clearly as he repeated himself once more and said, "I won't get married, and I'll take you away with me instead."

"Where will we go?"

I chuckled. I didn't know how to explain to him that I had just understood the reality of our situation yesterday.

In fact, he should understand his reality better than me. He had no choice but to get married since that was what Nicholas wanted.

He had a family, so he had a weakness. With his weakness in Nicholas' hand, he had no choice but to bend to Nicholas' will. Due to the time limit, I could no longer hold back on my words.

So, I decided to be frank with him

and said, "Even if you refused to show up at your own wedding, the media would announce your marriage later in the afternoon You might as well hurry back and let everything happen."
