Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Yes, honey. I’ll marry you.” She smiled, trying to hold back tears.
“For real?” The relief was very evident in his voice.
Katherine nodded.
With shaky hands and a smile on his face, Lewis removed the ring from the box, placed the box on the table, then slid the ring onto Kathie’s finger.
Her smile got even bigger when she saw how well the beautiful diamond piece fitted her.
“It’s so beautiful.” She whispered, not tearing her eyes off the beauty.
Once Lewis rose to his feet, she stood up and hugged him.
“I love it. But I love you more.”
“I don’t know what I would have done if you had rejected me.”
She giggled. “You think so?”
He nodded.
“My life would never be the same without you. I also don’t think I can bear to see you with another woman.”
“That’s comforting.” He smiled.
“I’m being real. I hope my mom doesn’t think I want to steal her shine knowing she’s not the only one who got a ring.”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Ollie chuckled, “Beatrice would pass. You like it, don’t you?" He smiled at Kathie who couldn’t stop staring at the gorgeous diamond.
She giggled, caressing the ring with her finger. “I love it. I’m not a fan of knuckle rings but I could wear this all day.”
“I will make sure our wedding bands are even more beautiful.”
Katherine looked at her fiance. “You love me that much, don’t you? You sure can’t wait for me to be Mrs. Drew.”
“You’re right and you know I would gladly do anything to make you happy and that includes getting you the finest things.”
With a smile on her face, Kathie spoke. “You sure know how to sweep me off my feet,”
“So who knew about this because I never saw it coming. Natasha?”
Lewis shook his head. “I’ve had this in mind for a long time. The sales rep at the jewelry shop assisted me in picking the ring.”
“As I said before, we need not rush anything. Just let me know when you’re ready for the next step. We will get a planner to help with the engagement party.”
Katherine nodded. “I’m sure I will have more time for myself after the wedding next weekend.”
“So what’s your take about Beatrice remarrying again?"
“Deep down I know this wouldn’t be her last marriage but this is definitely the last time I’m going to help her plan any wedding or be her bridesmaid.”
“She spoke so highly of her new man. I think he’s different.”
Katherine scoffed, rolling her eyes. “You should see how she spoke so highly of all her exes. I lost count of how many times I switched schools because we had to travel all over to be with the men she was with. I feel no marriage is perfect but my mom wouldn’t understand that. She tends to pull away by every slight discomfort.”
“I hope this one will be different for her.”
“I’m not having high hopes about it. But I wish her all the best.”
“You’ll be around for the wedding, right?”
“Even if I don’t want to, This is a period I have to be on good terms with your mom.”
Katherine laughed out loud. “I’m glad you understand my mom’s personality. She will forever use your absence against you.”
Lewis reached for her hands on the table and intertwined them with his own. “I can’t wait for the wedding to be over so we can begin to plan for ourselves.”
Katherine smiled, saying nothing.
........................................
“Where the hell have you been?” Katherine heard the very familiar voice say the moment she entered the mansion.
She rolled her eyes. “How old am I? 12?”
“My wedding is at stake here, Miss. As my bridesmaid, you need to be responsible and give this preparation your all.”
Katherine glared at her mother as she approached where she was sited.
“I work full time, mom.”
“Liar!! Your number wasn’t going through. I had to call the hospital. They confirmed you closed for the day hours ago.”
“Besides, you can’t go to work looking all that sexy.” She pointed at her outfit.
“So now you're stalking me?”
“Sure, I have no choice. You’re my bridesmaid so I’m responsible for you. At least till the wedding is over.”
“If you hadn’t switched off your phone, I wouldn’t have any reason to call the hospital. You are now at my beck and call, remember?”
Katherine shook her head, placing her purse on the couch beside her mom. She wasn’t surprised about Beatrice’s choice of words.
“What is it, Mom? The last time I checked, we had wrapped up all of the preparations. The remaining days to the wedding are for us to relax and stay away from stress.”
“Yeah yeah, I’m aware,” She waved her hands at what her daughter said. “But something came up.”
“What?”
“Well,” Beatrice started to say as she tucked some stray strands of hair behind her ear. “I’ve decided to get another dress for the wedding.”
“Holy shit, Mom, tell me you’re joking.”
“I’m not.” She answered immediately like it was no big deal.
“What the hell, Mom? Do you even know the stress we went through before we found you your perfect dresses? You literally made me have sleepless nights because of it.”
“The dresses were perfect in my eyes then but not any more so don’t blame me. I lost interest in them.”
“For fucks sake, mom. Can you hear yourself? Those dresses are so damn perfect. This is like your 100th wedding. I don’t even know why you’re making a big deal out of it.”
“Of course, it’s a big deal, whether it’s my 99th marriage or not. All I know is that I have to be perfect and the day has to be perfect too.”
“Of course, you’ve never gotten married before so you wouldn’t understand.”
“Don’t be pathetic, mom.”
“I’m not. I was only stating the facts. Only those who have been through the process would be able to relate to how I feel. For fucks sake, Katherine, you should be calming me and not stressing me.”
She chuckled, “Are you serious? Then maybe you should get someone who has been married before to be your bridesmaid. I QUIT!!!” She picked up her purse from the couch and was about to make her way out of the main living area.
“What!?!!! you can quit on me?” Beatrice rose to her feet matching behind her daughter.
“We will see about that!” Kathie mumbled, not looking back.
“Stop being a brat, kate.”
She finally came to a halt, turning around to face her mother. “Did you just call me a brat? Gosh, mom, you’re the most selfish human I’ve ever known. All I’ve ever done is to support you but you
hardly give two fucks about me and all of my efforts.”
“Why do you love overthinking every situation? This is my wedding. If it’s not going to be about me, then who would it be about?”
“Whatever! I’m done. Good luck to you and your new dresses.”
“What about being my bridesmaid?”
“You can go tell your friends to do it for you or you hire a stranger.”
“Come on, I need someone perfect for this!”
“So your friends aren’t perfect?”
Beatrice shrugged.
“Of course, what was I expecting?”
“Katherine,” Beatrice called, stopping her daughter from walking any further.
“Mom, I have to be at the hospital very early so I need my precious sleep.”
“You know, my friends are really busy, plus it’s so late to notify any one of them now. Besides I need someone really sexy to stand by me. So the pictures would come out even perfect. What better memories could beat a picture of you and me being the bride and bride’s maid.”
Katherine had rolled her eyes before she realized her actions.
“You would love the dresses when you see them, I promise you. Andre paid for them.”
“Good luck with the dresses.” Kathie was already walking away when her mother stopped her by holding onto her hand.
“What the hell, Mom?”
“Wow wow wow!!!....what do we have here?” Beatrice said in disbelief, examining the diamond ring she saw on her daughter’s engaged finger.
“How the hell did this get here?”
“Are you being serious right now?” She glared at Bea.
“When the fuck did this happen? Tonight? Don’t tell me you said Yes to Lewis.”
Beatrice sighed, “That brat!!! He couldn’t even wait for me to have my wedding before going on with his proposal.”
“Are you jealous of me, right now?”
“Of course not!” She chuckled, “And why would I be?” She almost stammered.
“You are making this all about you already. Can’t you just be fucking happy for me? A simple 'Congratulations' would do, instead of having silly thoughts about us stealing your shine and all the shitty attention you want. Life does not only revolve around you.”
“Don’t be silly, Kate. Of course, I’m happy for you. I’m just shocked that he chose you and you chose him and you guys will get married.”
Seeing the glare her daughter was throwing at her, Beatrice was forced to say what was on her mind. “Oh, darling, stop staring like I’m the devil over here. You are bound to marry someday but
I’ve always thought it would be to someone whom the triplets are on good terms with. You should always choose your children over men. Men are hoes anyways.”
“Oh, like the way you’ve always chosen me over all the men you’ve been with? Don’t be pathetic, Mom.”
“Whatever! I am happy for you both. I don’t like Lewis that much though. I still feel you can do better. But your ring is very pretty.”
Katherine sighed in disbelief, wondering where the hell she was when the angels were distributing good mothers.
“That is by the way. The fitting for the new dresses is in two days and I want you to come with me.”
“Whatever!!” Kathie said, walking away. She was almost by the stairs when her mother’s voice came through again.
“And before I forget, Oliver is coming for the wedding.”
Katherine froze, stopping in her tracks.
