Chapter 86 It’s Snowing

Seeing Caroline’s anger, Evan leaned against the door and asked, “Do you feel better now?”

She responded flatly.

He turned around. “Let’s go. I’ll take you somewhere.”

She was baffled. It was already past 9 p.m., so where was he taking her?

As they reached a halfway point up the northern mountain after a two–hour drive, Caroline had fallen asleep on the reclined seat.

After parking the car, Evan looked at her curled up figure in the passenger seat, and his eyes softened significantly.

She didn’t appear as cold and intimidating when she was asleep.

Observing the hair that partially covered her face, he slowly reached his hand out to tuck it away.

However, the moment his fingers made contact with her face, he was stunned.

There was moisture on the tips of his fingers.

“Mom… Don’t go. I’ll listen to you, I won’t be a mistress. Don’t go…”

His heart constricted upon hearing her murmurs in her sleep.

Was she insistent on leaving because of something her mother had said?

His eyes darkened. Besides seeing her cry on the day her mother passed away, he had never witnessed any pain on her face.

She was skilled at hiding her emotions.

She always wanted to appear strong.

In frustration, Evan loosened his tie. He grabbed a tissue and gently wiped away her tears.

She finally woke up at that moment.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw the bony joints of his fingers.

She was taken aback and looked at him warily. “What are you doing?”

He ignored her and retracted his hand only after he had finished. “You were drooling. It’s disgusting.”

Feeling awkward, she quickly looked away and gazed out the window.

Her eyes widened gradually as she noticed that it was heavily snowing outside.

“It’s snowing?”

“Mm–hmm, Reuben, who is in his hometown, told me it’s snowing.” Evan lied without hesitation.

Caroline paid him no mind. She opened the car door and stepped out.

Her spirits lifted as she stepped onto the soft snow.

She had never imagined that he would bring her here to witness the snowfall.

She smiled with her eyes as she playfully walked around in the snow. The first snow brings good. luck. I hope everything goes smoothly this year.”

Evan leaned against the car and watched her quietly. A smile unknowingly formed on his face.

The peaceful atmosphere lasted for less than ten minutes when it was abruptly interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing.

He answered the call.

“Mr. Jordan, the company’s confidential information has been leaked!” Reuben’s voice came

through.

His eyes turned cold. “What happened?”

“The design draft for the new product, completed by the electronic R&D department, has been

stolen. We’re still trying to find the person who sold it! The recipient of the classified information

hasn’t dared to sell it yet. The message exchange occurred after 6 p.m. today.

“We were immediately notified once the exchange took place. It was an online trade with a virtual

1. ID. They need time to investigate.”

Evan’s coldness reached its peak. “Give them two days! If they can’t solve it by then, fire them!”

“Yes, sir!”

After hanging up the call, Evan turned to get back into the car.

Sensing that something was wrong, Caroline went after him.

She had a sinking feeling when she saw his grim expression.

“Did something happen?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.

He pursed his thin lips, his eyes filled with intensity. “Company confidential information was stolen. It happened today.”

She was taken aback. The company’s confidential information was stolen?!”

“That’s right,” Evan replied, squinting as he started the car.

Caroline was shocked. How could this have happened? No secretary would dare touch his documents, and access to the president’s floor required an exclusive access card.

She had stopped by his office earlier in the day when she visited the company. Besides the events in the morning that she was unaware of, Daniella was the only person who had entered the office

after that.

Without any conclusive evidence, she didn’t want to jump to conclusions,

During the drive home, Evan received another call from Reuben.

“Mr. Jordan, we asked the secretaries. They said that apart from Ms. Love, the only person who entered your office today was…

He dared not say the rest.

Got it!” Evan hung up the call, he looked terribly grim.

Caroline heard the conversation clearly.

It wouldn’t be strange if Evan suspected her. She was indeed more suspicious than Daniella, unexpectedly turning up at Villa Rosa and then to the office.

He even saw her anxious face when he returned home.

“Caroline,” he said sternly, his anger evident in his tone, “Tell me, why did you suddenly come

back?”

Her eyes darkened. Just as she had expected, he suspected her.

He would never consider the possibility of Daniella being involved. He always assumed it was her

fault.

“Do you think it was me?” Her voice was almost devoid of emotion.

Screech-

Evan slammed on the brakes and turned to face her. His gaze was fierce. “Then tell me, why did

you come back all of a sudden?! You insisted on not seeing me before, and now you suddenly came

looking for me! Caroline, how am I supposed to believe you’re innocent?!”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
