Chapter 41 Attending The Banquet
The next afternoon, Vivian was already done preparing for the banquet.
Although, there were still two hours left before the event started in Viton Hotel, she had to be there in advance.
At the same time, Patricia arrived at the Jenkins’ residence to pick up Vivian.
The latter was invited to sing tonight, so she needed a bit of rehearsal before the banquet began.
Vivian was wearing a gorgeous evening dress. It was as blue as the sky and was decorated with many pieces of brilliant diamonds.
At a glance, one could assume how expensive and exquisite this dress was.
Before going out, she deliberately glanced at Maria with a complacent smile.
However, she found that the latter was just looking at her phone all this time, Paying no attention to how well-dressed Vivian was.
"Humph! She must be very good at pretending not to care. But I'm sure that she is very jealous."
Vivian scoffed coldly, complaining to Patricia as they walked towards the car.
Patricia smiled sarcastically and added fuel to fire.
"What will you expect from an ordinary girl who grew up in a poor town? Of course, she could just pretend not to be envious.Honey, there is just a huge gap between you and her.You are worlds apart! You don't have to worry about her.All she can do is look up at you when you ascend to fame, while she is left at the bottom.
"Thank you, Aunt Patricia. You are right!"
Hearing this, Vivian was filled with more confidence. She couldn't help but imagine that tonight, an investor or a director would surely be charmed by her singing, and they would offer her something big.
Meanwhile, in the villa, Maria was still sitting on the sofa with her arms around her knees.
Hearing her phone chime, she looked at the screen of her phone and saw a message.
"The party starts at seven o'clock. So, I'll be there and pick you up an hour earlier."
It turned out that she had been chatting with Anthony.
Seeing this, Maria checked the time.It was only five o'clock. She still had plenty of time left.
After all, she didn't need to put on a complicated dress or an elaborate makeup.
"Okay then.See you later."
After she replied, Julie happened to appear in the living room.
Unlike Bill, who usually attended social activities just like her daughter, Julie was a bit aloof. She would just stay at the villa if the events to attend weren't that necessary.
In fact, aside from Lily, only she and Maria were left in the house right now.
"What's this? Do you have somewhere to go tonight?"
Julie immediately noticed that Maria had changed into a clean, plain dress.
Although it definitely was not made by a famous designer, and the style was not gorgeous enough, it was a little different from what Maria usually wore.
Therefore, she had a hunch that there might be a special reason as to why Maria dressed up.
However, before Maria could answer, Lily came out of the kitchen.
But after the incident about the flour thing last time, she deemed that she had to be discreet for a while.
Then, she asked Julie with a cautious tone, "Mrs.Jenkins, only you and Miss Maria should be having dinner at home tonight, right?"
"Why? What's the matter?" Julie replied with a question instead.
Slightly nervous, Lily smiled apologetically and said, "It's about the food for dinner...The grocery store which we usually order things from, has suddenly closed. So now, the remaining food in the fridge is only enough for one person."
Although Lily said this with genuine embarrassment on her face, there was still a part of her that enjoyed this.
Of course, she didn't play any tricks this time.It wasn't her fault that the food she could serve for dinner was not enough.
As a servant, she could fill herself up with cookies or chips.
But of course, this would be unacceptable for the masters of the house.
They should always eat the right amount and kind of food.
However, the problem was there was only enough food for one person. It meant that someone would not be able to eat dinner.
As the wife of the family's head, Julie had the right for it.
But Lily would like to see what Maria would do.
If Maria dared to act like an uncivilized brat and compete with Julie for something like this, she would definitely be in trouble.
Lily was convinced that since Maria came from a poor background, she would want to have her fill.
Therefore, she was ready to watch something fun.
"I'm not hungry. You can bring the food to Maria after you're done preparing dinner."
Surprisingly, Julie took the initiative to offer the food to Maria.
The Jenkins family always had rich afternoon tea.
Since Julie had tea and desserts earlier, she was not that hungry yet.
Moreover, she always paid great attention to her figure, so she didn't really eat much at dinner.
Of course, Lily was very disappointed at this anticlimactic ending.
But she still had other ideas in mind. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Mrs.Jenkins, the main dishes for dinner are tuna bone marrow and top-grade abalones.Mr.Jenkins actually ordered them especially for you.I just don't think that it's appropriate to just give them to Miss Maria..."
Hearing this, Julie swallowed hard and was rendered speechless for a while.
Even though she couldn't cook that much, she knew that tuna bone marrow and top-grade abalones were very rare.
Tuna bone marrow was a luxurious seafood dish and she was able to eat it a few times before. It tasted the best when eaten raw.
Most importantly, it easily cost an arm and a leg since a tuna fish only had so much bone marrow to offer.
Then, it was going to be paired with top-grade abalones, which were also very valuable.
In fact, even the cooking skills required to make these dishes should also be top-notch.
Since Lily was a top-rated maid in terms of cooking, Julie was sure that she could create a sumptuous feast out of them.
When Lily said that it might be a little inappropriate to let Maria have the meal, it was because the cost of this meal even exceeded the monthly food allowance of an ordinary family.
Therefore, Lily was simply implying that Maria didn't deserve to indulge herself to such a luscious meal.
After all, she wasn't even a real member of the Jenkins family.
