Chapter 20: SICK DAY
Chapter 20: SICK DAY
"I hope you're fine Tolu?" Ayo says as he watches Tolu just laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
They've been at the hospital for over two hours, Tolu was having doubts about herself she didn't talk
throughout which is unlike her only thing she had done so far was call Deji to come meet her.
"I'm not, gathering all of us to face Essence was a great mistake." She said as she uses a tissue to
wipe her tear filled eyes.
"You don't have to talk like this, you're going to get better and we'll continue the search." Ayo has been
having a boost of confidence since he used his powers at the Gok house, he saved someone's life with
the powers he thought were only meant for chaos and destruction.
"You're not listening to me, you need to give up on that idea." Tolu sits properly, she now knew what
Essence was capable of.
"Well you shouldn't have forced all of us into finding Papa at the first place." Gboyega says firmly, Deji
quickly barges in. He sees Ayo really close to her, he couldn't wait for any explanation and quickly
concluded that this was all Ayo's fault.
"What did you do to her." Deji says swiftly as he angrily grabs Ayo shirt.
"Me? I didn't do anything." Ayo pushes Deji out of his way, Tolu sensed that they were going to fight but
she couldn't stand up she was still in pain.
"Why are you people risking her life? She's a human and you guys are Supernaturals." Dej cries out,
he hadn't seen Tolu in this condition before.
"Risking her life? She was the one that forced us to find Papa, you don't have to discourage her from
doing what she clearly loves." Ayo said firmly.
"You should go Ayo." Tolu said swiftly as she her head gently on the pillow, Ayo couldn't say anything
he couldn't believe that this was the person that gathered all of them, gave them motivation and so on
to find Papa would be like this.
"Wow." Ayo said disappointed and walks out of the room, he goes to the reception and sits on a chair,
he couldn't leave Tolu all by herself he wanted to make sure she was fine. "Shit." Ayo says as he hears
the voice of a baby crying, this immediately triggers Ayo as it brings back a lot of bad memories, Ayo
stands up swiftly running towards the entrance door of the hospital he moved really fast that he had no
idea he pushed a old man using a wheelchair.
"Ye!" The old man screams in pain, Ayo quickly turns around to apologize.
"Sorry Sir." Ayo says, the man was blind this made Ayo concerned cause there was no nurse
supervising him. "Where are the nurses?" Ayo asked.
"The nurses here don't care about me, I've been here for over 7years I'm pretty sure the people here
want me dead." The man says and sighs out, tired of his pathetic life.
"Let me get you to your room." Ayo says as he gently pushes the wheelchair. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Part of me feels like I failed." Tolu says as she opens her eyes, thinking of all her life choices. Deji
stands up from the chair and sits on the bed.
"You've tried your best, there's no other thing you can do." Deji whispers to her as he grabs her hand to
comfort her. "Hey, you can move with me Tolu. We can always work together, you give me information
and I handle the crimes." Deji says and kisses the back of her hand, Tolu quickly takes her hand off of
Deji, she picks up her phone that was laying beside her, she checks her mom's Instagram profile.
"Sometimes it just feels like you've made the wrong decisions in life." Tolu says and sighs softly
We're here." Ayo gets the old man to his room. "Do you want to relax on the bed?" Ayo asked.
"No, just leave me here." The man says sadly, Ayo turns around to leave the room but didn't just want
to leave the poor old man all by himself.
"Don't you have any family member that lives around this place? I could help you get them." Ayo says
as he shuts the door to the man's room.
"My family left me a long time ago." The man says as he laughs regretting the choices he made in life.
"That's terrible." Ayo sits on one of the many chairs in the room.
"Nah, I was a terrible person. I deserve it, what about you? What are you doing here?" The man asked.
"I came to drop a friend here, she's not okay both physically and mentally. She was like our team
leader but now that she's not feeling so fine I feel like I have to step up and take charge but I can't."
Said Ayo, he wasn't ready to give up on finding Papa.
"Then what's stopping you?" The man's asked, his eyes were closed and his saliva was rolling down to
his shirt from his mouth. Ayo turned around not wanting to say anything but the guilt felt heavy on him.
"At a time of my life I felt I had everything I always wanted, I had powers, I could do whatever I want but
there was this thing in my head." He sighs and goes on. "I met a lady her name was Rinu, she had a
middle class family but she took me in when she saw that I was homeless. Rinu was so nice to me, she
had dreams and wanted the best for her husband and child." Ayo stops not able to go on, tears
dropped from his one eye, the old man touches Ayo head he wanted to touch his shoulder but couldn't
see.
"One day I was in her kitchen and this thing in my head wanted to take control of my body, I struggled
to stop it but I couldn't. I screamed at the top of my voice and Rinu ran inside while carrying her baby,
sadly this thing was in control and it shot her and her child." Ayo voice shakens, he couldn't handle
what he was feeling. He burst into tears. "And I know you might say it's not my fault but it is, I can't get
it out of my head. I've hurt so many people and it keeps on haunting me." Ayo sees a tissue on a table
and quickly picks it up to clean his eyes, he relaxed his back on the chair glad that he finally told
someone what was going on with him.
"You're not that bad kid." The man says as he pats Ayo's head.
Ayo walks toward Tolu's room confidently, he sees Deji going in and quickly stops him. "You're a bad
person an I hope you're proud of yourself for what you did." Ayo says swiftly and walks to the room,
Tolu is sitting on a chair this time.
"I'm going back home to rally the others so we can find Papa." Ayo says gebtly, as he stands from
distance.
"It's madness Ayo" she tries to stand up but Ayo points back to chair implying that she should relax.
"I know, part of me is telling me that but Papa needs our help and I'm not ready to give up, thanks for
bringing us together." Ayo says and smiles, he wanted her to still know they are friends no matter what.
"You guys should just do one thing for me." Tolu says.
"Which is?" Ayo was hoping she'll say she'll come back.
"Don't die." She said in a very low tone.
"I can't promise you that." He chuckles, waves to her and walks out of the room. Ayo walks out of the
hospital, he turns around and looks at his reflection in a window he touches his cybernetic face. "I got
this." Ayo says to himself and exhales deeply.
