Just when Yvette fell into a dilemma of whether to say hello, the member of the special operations unit

bypassed her and scurried away in a frantic. The next thing she knew, she was left all alone at the

door.

Even though Evan’s eyesight had yet to recover, he could tell that it was Yvette based on her height

and the hospital gown she was in.

“Forget the face you just saw,” he remarked in a deep voice.

Yvette came to the bedside and nodded obediently, clenching the handle of the thermal container.

“Don’t worry, Evan. I didn’t see anyone and won’t say anything.”

After dropping her piece, she put the thermal container on the bedside table and opened the lid.

“Here, drink some broth to help boost your recovery. Sorry, but it wasn’t my intention to bother you like

this.”

As she spoke, she stuffed the thermal container into Evan’s hands and added, “It’s not hot anymore.”

The lady left after saying that.

Truth be told, Yvette had a sore throat and needed to have light meals throughout the day, so the butler

brought her some broth for supper.

She knew the efficacy of the said broth, hence thinking that Evan could also benefit from it, which was

why she kept half for him.

Never did she foresee herself running into a situation that was not meant for her to see.

At that thought, she turned tail rather swiftly. A salty countenance was written all over her face.

As Evan watched Yvette leave, he groped for the lid on the bedside table and closed the thermal

container then and there without even taking a sip of the broth.

He could not be certain if Yvette had truly lost her feelings for him, so he figured that it was best not to

lead her on.

After putting the thermal container back on the bedside table, he lay down to rest.

The next day soon arrived.

Right at the dawn of daybreak, Evan woke up.

His eyesight was almost restored, and his vision at that time seemed to be veiled by a thin layer of

gauze.

He might not be able to see clearly enough, but it was not all that blurry,

anyway.

Checking the time on his phone, he learned that he had an hour more before the helicopter came to

pick him up.

Evan summoned the nurse and handed her the thermal container on the bedside table.

“Send this to the ward next to mine and tell them not to fetch me any more food. I’ll be transferring to

another hospital today.”

“Okay.”

The nurse took the thermal container to Yvette’s ward and relayed Evan’s words.

Yvette picked up the thermal container and felt the weight of it, guessing that Evan did not drink the

broth.

She pursed her lips and answered, “Got it.”

After the nurse stepped out, Selene, who had stayed to care for Yvette in the hospital, grumbled

unhappily, “Is it really necessary for him to request a transfer? As if you’re pestering him.”

Only after spilling all that did she realize that her words might hurt her daughter’s feelings, hence

hurriedly correcting herself.

“Don’t be sad, Yvie. Maybe I’m overthinking it. That Evan probably only wanted to be transferred to a

better hospital.”

There was little to no credibility to her explanation, for Central Hospital was the best hospital in the

entirety of Quilton.

A bitter smile marred Yvette’s visage. “You need not comfort me, Mom. I’m fine.”

She then placed the thermal container on the bedside table and went on, “I feel sort of tired. I could use

some more sleep.”

“All right. Sweet dreams.”

By the time Yvette woke up, Evan had already left.

Before she could even open her eyes, she could hear her father’s voice.

“Evan is really something. I can’t believe he actually left on a military

helicopter.”

Selene recalled Cecilia relocating to Acocester, and that city had a powerful military family spanning

three generations.

Suppressing her voice, she whispered, “Don’t tell me it was the Shaw family of Acocester that fostered

Cecilia?”

As the immediate heir to the Yates family, she had knowledge of those prestigious families in every city

in the whole country.

It was a cinch for her to correlate the said helicopter with the Shaw family.

In fact, Justin shared the same sentiment.

“Although the Shaw family has contributed much to the people, not to mention their power and

authority, they pose far too great of potential threats. Luckily, Evan had no eye on Yvie. Otherwise, who

knows if we’d end up mourning for him—”

Before he could finish talking, Selene pinched the man on the arm. “Mind your words or zip it.”

Justin hissed in pain and shut his mouth on the spot.

The two of them turned to Yvette, only to see that their daughter was still having some shut–eye.

Following that, they talked about her suspension from school and her enlistment.

Of course, letting their daughter give up the bright future ahead of her just to join the army would be the

last thing they wished for.

Therefore, all they ever discussed were ways to talk Yvette into having a change of heart.

As Yvette pretended to be fast asleep, she heard their exchange yet did not take it to heart.

In the past, she had heeded her family’s advice and enrolled in performing arts, not to mention giving

her all to strive for the best.

Things were different then as she yearned to make a choice of her own for once.

Meanwhile, Evan arrived at the military vertiport of Acocester at 11 a.m.

Then, he was sent to the military hospital first thing upon landing.

Elaine and Cecilia had been waiting at the hospital entrance. Alongside them were the doctor and a

patient transfer bed.

“Why’s he not here yet? Is there a traffic jam on the road?” To call Elaine

desperate at that point would be an understatement.

Then came Cecilia’s gentle explanation. “Evan’s wounded, Grandma Elaine, so the transport will have

to go much slower than usual.”

“What’s Evan thinking, anyway? Why’d he opt for a transfer when he barely had the time to

recuperate?” said the old lady.

“Jon will be back tomorrow. I bet Evan must want to see him, too.”

Cecilia’s words brought a smile to Elaine’s face.

“Yeah, I guess so. Our family will be reunited once they’re all back.”

The old lady could hardly remember the last time they had shared the table as a family.

After that coming reunion, whether they would have more to come was anyone’s guess.

Thinking of that, Elaine suddenly remembered something.

“Ceci, come home with me later and help me choose some photos so that I can arrange blind dates for

Jon and Evan.”

That stumped Cecilia for words momentarily.

“Grandma Elaine, do you think Jon and Evan will abide by your arrangement?”

“They’ll have to. If I allow them to find love at their own pace, the Shaw family lineage will die out.”

Cecilia could not agree more with that.

Honestly speaking, Jon and Evan were workaholics, and even if women threw themselves at them, This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

they would fail to notice any signs.

On certain occasions, even if they did notice women by their side, they would still choose to avoid

romance at all costs.

Yvette was the epitome of such an instance.

“Very well, then. I’ll accompany you to the Shaw residence and check out the photos of my future

sisters–in–law after settling Evan down.”

Speaking of which, Elaine was thrilled as she recounted to Cecilia the ones she thought had good

potential.

Before she had time to finish speaking, an ambulance pulled over at the entrance of the inpatient

building.

The door opened, revealing Evan’s pale but smiling face. “I’m here, Grandma, Ceci.”

Observing the poor, lifeless Evan, Elaine was heartbroken, to say the least.

“How are you holding up, Evan, having to journey the way here and all?” “Don’t worry about me,

Grandma. I’m all good. I can cope with this.” Seeing that Elaine still wanted to probe further, Cecilia

interrupted, “Best if we let the doctor get Evan to the ward first, Grandma Elaine. We’ll talk more later.”

“Oh, right. Let’s head to the ward first.”

With that, Evan was sent to the innermost ward on the VIP floor. It was serene and quiet, rather

conducive to recuperation.

After the three of them had a brief chat, Cecilia perceived Evan’s exhaustion, thus suggesting, “Get

some rest, Evan. I’ll take Grandma Elaine home and visit you again at noon.”

In fact, Evan could barely remain conscious as he bobbed his head at that. “Bring Zachary along when

you do, Ceci. I haven’t seen him for more than a decade already. I missed him a lot.”

Cecilia knew that Evan had been thinking about Charlie, so she immediately gave the man the nod.

“Sure, I’ll call him right after this.”
