Chapter 9 Who Dare
As expected, the next moment, Ethan spoke, “It’s not right for Evelyn to hurt Mia, but as her father, you
shouldn’t beating her to death, don’t you? I propose we split half of the funds in Evelyn’s hands and
give them to Mia. Then let’s put an end to this matter.”
Ethan thought Evelyn was still as easily fooled as before and signaled to Mia.
“Yeah,” Shirley added, reminding Evelyn, “you can’t act recklessly next time. Fortunately, Mia is your
sister. It doesn’t matter who controls the fund.”
Mia’s eyes brightened, her hands trembling with excitement. Evelyn held a fund worth a hundred million
that she and William had been eyeing for a long time.
“Dad, forgive Evelyn this time.” Mia, with teary eyes, showed an expression that unwillingness to see
Evelyn hurt again.
James always indulged Mia in every request.
“Now, let’s draw up the contract and sign it.”
“Evelyn, your dad agreed. Thank your dad and your sister. They’ve forgiven you.” Shirley squeezed
Evelyn’s shoulder, looking joyful.
Evelyn was on the verge of laughter.
They wanted to greedily take five million and expected her to be grateful?
Just when everyone thought Evelyn was about to agree unconditionally, a cold and emotionless voice
echoed in the room.
“Who said I need their forgiveness?”
Upon hearing this, James’s face stiffened.
“Not needed? If you don’t need it, then don’t come back home anymore.”
Since marrying Henry, what Evelyn , cared most about was Mia, William, and The Taylor family.
In the past, if James had said something like this, she would have immediately begged for mercy. But
this time…
“Sure!” Evelyn responded with a light and indifferent tone.
James rolled his eyes, pointing at Evelyn without uttering a word.
Shirley was stunned for a moment, then saying with a smile, “Evelyn, don’t make this kind of joke.
You’re always our family.”
Evelyn gently removed Shirley’s hand from her shoulder, stepping back as if avoiding a plague.
“Family? I don’t mind changing my last name.”
James’ brows furrowed tightly. It was the first time Evelyn had directly contradicted him. His chest felt
like it harbored a ball of fire, burning away his last bit of patience.
With a loud bang, James closed the door of the room.
Staring at Evelyn’s defiant face, he became more infuriated.
“Evelyn, this is what you owe Mia. Even if you don’t agree, you should.”
Evelyn widened her eyes, unable to believe that James could be shameless to this extent, trying to
force her to submit.
“Dad, don’t make things difficult for Evelyn.” Seizing the opportunity, Mia incited, “Evelyn has married
Henry. If you hurt her, we won’t be able to explain it to Henry.”
The fire in Mia’s heart burned just as intensely as James’.
Ethan and Shirley nodded in agreement.
James sneered in disdain. “Her?”
He had heard early on that Evelyn had caused trouble in The Wilson family, even angering the old
master.
“This kind of trash, even if I cripple her today, no one will come looking for trouble…”
As the words fell, a loud bang echoed in the hospital room, then the door collapsed, smashing onto
James’s toes.
“Who the hell…” he raised his head and immediately fell silent.
“Who dares to touch her!!”
It was Henry.
Evelyn hadn’t expected to encounter Henry here, and for a moment, she felt a bit bewildered.
Henry’s eyes were like sharp knives, piercing through James with an intimidating chill. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Henry turned around, and despite Evelyn wearing a padded jacket, she appeared exceptionally
delicate standing there. Unfortunately, no one in the room cared for her.
Thinking about the way these people treated her earlier, a pang of hurt crossed Henry’s heart.
Evelyn, unsure whether his fury was directed at James or at her, awkwardly explained, “I… I …”
This single sentence also provided an opportunity for Mia, who is lying on the hospital bed. She
remembered that every time Evelyn provoked Henry, Evelyn would be confined in the house for several
days. This time couldn’t be any different.
“Henry,” Mia softly spoke, “Don’t blame Evelyn. Blame me. It’s me…”
‘This scheming woman!’ Evelyn glared at her, Mia pretending to explain while actually telling Henry that
Evelyn had come out against advice.
James, still smarting from having his foot hit, didn’t miss the chance to further manipulate the situation.
“Henry, I know my daughter is unruly, but rest assured, I will discipline her properly. If you don’t mind,
let me take her home first. Give me three months, after that, I’ll return you a well-behaved Evelyn…” If
he took her home, not to mention the fifty million funds, even the remaining fifty million would surely
end up in Mia’s pocket.
Though Evelyn understood the sinister intentions, she couldn’t afford to refute him now; she was solely
concerned about Henry’s opinion.
Henry got annoyed, “Shut up, all of you. Who do you think you are? She is mine, what qualification do
you have to take her away?”
