“I would be lying if I would say that I’m not happy that I found my mate, but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to reject you. I…I told you before that I want my brother to have our mate.” Calvin stuttered while saying the last sentence, and this didn’t go unnoticed by Ethlyn.
“I appreciate that you spoke the truth first, but please don’t lie to yourself. You don’t want to do that, do you?” Ethlyn asked, even when she was getting hurt while asking that question. Calvin’s silence broke her heart. She just wished him to speak that whatever she asked was just her assumption, but it wasn’t. His silence made her believe that he would reject her sooner or later by taking his fated mate in.
She wanted to tell the truth to Calvin that she wouldn’t be able to take this heartache again. The selfish part of her didn’t want that to leave but wouldn’t be so wrong by forcing herself into someone’s life.
She had thought that from today onwards, there would be a new beginning for both of them after all the issue with her character was solved, but it looked like that was not the case. Fate had planned something else for her.
“But that doesn’t mean I want to reject you. I didn’t have held your hand to leave you.” Calvin spoke. His heartache, seeing her expression, observing how hard she was trying to show that everything was all right, that she was all right.
“You better not think about keeping both of us because I won’t become your mistress,” Ethlyn growled at him after hearing his words. The last thing she would wish to be the third wheel in anyone’s relationship. Maybe because of Calvin’s fear, everyone might respect her, but behind her back, everyone would call her by the same name; she knew that. And she wants to lose her self-respect in her own eyes.
Calvin was taken aback by Ethlyn’s anger, but how did he expect her to behave? It was clear from her end that he had the option of choosing only one.
Ethlyn watched his tensed face and knew it was a tough decision for him, but he had to take this decision, and in case he wouldn’t be able to make this decision sooner, then she would have to because she was scared the more time Calvin would take to decision, the more her feelings for him would start increasing for him.
She was scared that in the end, she might fall in love with this stupid and annoying Alpha, but he wouldn’t. And she had read somewhere, ‘Don’t make someone a priority in your life when you’re only an option in theirs.’
She didn’t speak but had already made a mental note that she would leave him like a choice if she would feel that she was just a choice for him.
“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t want to say that though it sounded like that.” Calvin apologized and clenched his fist tightly when he realized that he was the reason behind Ethlyn’s pain. He was mad at himself, but he couldn’t do anything to make her feel better.
“It’s okay. I know you didn’t want to make me in that way.” Ethlyn mumbled in a heavy voice. She prayed in her mind to give her strength because she really didn’t want to cry in front of Calvin.
She focused all her mind on food and started eating it like a maniac ignoring all the table manners. Calvin observed that but didn’t say anything because he knew that what she was trying to do. Just like he had a habit of eating food in the middle of the night, in the same way, he knew that his daughter had a habit of eating a lot of food when she would become upset.
So, he could tell that Roselet had taken after her mother in this nature. They finished their food in silence, but it was eating both of them; even the car ride back to the pack was in silence. Calvin could swear that this was one of the longest times when he had stayed quiet. Ethlyn quickly walked out of the car to cry somewhere away from him.
“Ethlyn.” Calvin stopped her because he didn’t want to leave her alone even for a second. Ethlyn ignored him and continued to walk toward the pack house.
“Ethlyn” he shouted this time when he smelt her tears. ‘Damn it.’ He cursed and was about to follow her when his mobile rang. He received the call while walking toward Ethlyn. He was about to hold her arms when he heard.
“Hello, Calvin Haysbert?”
“Yes, speaking.”
“You asked me to inform let you know when the female patient would be awake for whom you stayed for hours in the hospital.” He heard the doctor speaking on the other side of the phone. Not just him, even Ethlyn heard this, and she now ran inside the elevator, not able to bear that, most probably, Calvin had already chosen whom he wanted by his side. “I want to tell you that her situation is critical; you can check on her once before you lose that chance.”
“I will be there soon,” Calvin answered and disconnected the call. He hissed that he had to leave Ethlyn in her own state now.
‘I promise I will make it for you. I promise you that.’ He mumbled and ran back toward the car.

“I don’t think we can do anything. Her internal bleeding is not stopping at all, even after the surgery. And all her spinal cord has been damaged in the worst way, as if someone intentionally shot her.” The doctor informed Calvin once he was there. “I’m sorry, Mr. Haysbert.”
Calvin’s heart sank when he heard that. He didn’t want to lose his mate but instead of grieving over this news. He used his mind to save her.
“It’s okay, doctor. Can you please prepare her discharge paper, then? I would like to take her to my home. So that she can be where she belongs.” Calvin said and mind-link the pack doctor to know the availability of the vampire blood.
